DFRPG / learning how to play?

hey guys I've been snooping around  your threads  for a while now. I would really love to learn how to play? and were do I start?

3
iirc it said something about the spells feed and growing strong  of each other

4
Harry couldn't power up the first layer of wards on one stone which had  many layers of wards  on his best day according to bob

Serack did an excellent analysis a few years ago that was the basis for many ideas about the gatekeeper being the culprit; it should be in reference someplace.

I still hold Mab as suspect number one though; some of the comments in CD:

- she knows what Harrys apartment looks like
- she knew about bob all along
- sidhe can walk thru thresholds

all seem to me to be less cluebats and more of " good grief, haven't you all solved this one by now?" On Jim's part
agreed i figure mab wanted harry to find molly  ;)

isn't in dead beat that Kemmler twisted bobs nature?

Yeah, but as for that, it's the difference between "Was this a death curse" and "What did his death curse do?"  They were able to determine that a death curse was not cast when LaFortier get whacked.  So it's not impossible.  They were trying something far far more delicate in Edinburgh than what would be required to determine if a Death Curse was cast.  Then again, that assumes they even think to ask, and don't just take it as read that it happened.
ya but they could only do it by how,any wards there were andthey knew how they were arranged

I think that Mab and Lea are Sidhe Little Folk. This fits with this WoJ:

M
Although Mab is supposed to have been the only Winter Queen and the Fae are supposed to be ancient so...

Also, here is another WoJ that plainly states that Little Folk can become Sidhe:

EDIT: In Cold Days
(click to show/hide)
but mab can make her self as big or as little as she wants

sorry i just cheated and wentto the woj There is a rather long discussion as to what constitutes free will as an element in the back end of this book (Ghost Story).  Is what is presented and discussed as a concept, your own philosophy?  How did that come about, the idea that free will is making your choices based upon truth.
Right, and in the Dresden Files universe it's a vital component.  It's what devides mortals, human beings, from everybody else.  Is that we're the ones that have elements of both good and evil inside us, we're the ones who get to chose what to do.  And because that's who we are, we make the world around us through those choices.  The forces of the universe, these cosmic forces are always ballanced against one another, and we're the ones who can tilt that see-saw one way or another with our actions.  I think that is largely true in real life, but it is certainly a very fun, dramatic use of the concept of free will for writing with.  It's very important in general, and that's why Harry, as he's gotten more mature, he's striven so much harder to make sure that other people have a choice, you know, he's not trying to make choices for people any more, he's trying to make sure that they know what's going on, and can make an informed choice.
