DF Reference Collection / Re: Doylist analysis on LC fix timing

So then by this logic who ever it was that fixed lc needed someone to let them either past the wards and/or past the threshold (at least so they could use magic while in harry's apartment) AND was either someone Thomas trusted or could fool him into letting them in.

Oddly enough it makes Mab (or Lea) more likely than future Harry baring some special rule about time travelers and thresholds. but it also means any witch or wizard who are decent at illusions or transformation would have been capable, notable examples being Elain or Joe (or if your in need of a time travel fix future molly ;) ). however the pool of people thomas would have trusted AND would be capable(ability and knowledge) and interested in fixing it is remarkable small.

DFRPG / Mega Minion as a quest to Change Aspect
« on: March 19, 2012, 11:26:25 AM »
Something that came to me while reading over the various threads about summoning, conjuring, and crafting various minions. What I noticed is that most attempts at balancing the creation of a semi-permanent or long lasting minion are tied primarily to  trying to equate the value of said minion in purely mechanical terms. However no matter how many times it gets done it is left feeling inadequate. The solution I would suggest is for the creation of long term to semi-permanent (until killed or dispelled) minions is to instead of trying to quantify its value and have them mechanically go through the motions, treat it as an attempt to change an aspect of the caster while going through the narrative of casting a spell.

Basically going on a quest to make a "friend" rather than a check list with a few dice rolls. (still have them go through the casting bit, but make it a sort of finally or a contest than a process)

I thought it had to do with looking them in the eyes or just at them for too long and then doing that count down thing. ???
edit: from Wikipedia

"Weeping Angels can procreate by looking into the eyes of a living creature (should the victim look right in their eyes) and planting an image of themselves in the victim's mind. Eventually, a new Weeping Angel will burst from the victim, killing it."

on that note how would you stat a Weeping Angel's means of reproduction, and the whole an image of one is one thing?

was just looking for some president to use if it came up. sorry if I didn't think it all the way through first, but at least the concept is solid.

would probably be done with the aid of a healer type and enchanter type as justification, and be in the form of something not quite as extreme.

Or maybe I'll just suggest some henna tattoos.

should there be any extra detriments to something like getting your entire skeleton enchanted (for say armor based enchantments)?
like should it require an aspect like "gruesome scars" getting compelled in social conflicts?

(edit)
I am interested in this as a GM(offline) because one of my players may take this path.

hello

from my experience attributing them to actual  images makes them less scary. however using the image so that you have a more solid description at the ready seems to work well.

(speaking from a handful of RP-ing, DM-ing, and writing experiences)
