DF Books / Dresden Goes to U.A. High

Basically, how would Dresden operate if he was born into the world of My Hero Academia?

DF Books / What If the Potterverse Operated in the Dresdenverse?
« on: April 09, 2018, 05:53:27 PM »
I've been thinking about a potential HP/Dresden Files crossover, where the Potterverse follows the conventions of the Dresdenverse. Here are a few of the ideas I've got:

1. The events of the Harry Potter series would chronologically take place before Storm Front.
[1991; Sorcerer's Stone]/[~2000; Storm Front]

2. The (British) Ministry of Magic is not the government; it's the bureaucratic arm of the White Council within England. Following this logic, the Wizengamot becomes the public forum for various bloodlines and hereditary holdings of Britain to discuss their grievances towards the Council.

3. The Techbane is unique to Practitioners of the modern era (~1850-present).

4. Grindelwald was an ambitious apprentice to Kemmler; the only one who could reliably be called his lieutenant.
Following Kemmler's Defeat, Grindelwald was the one who held the opposition together.
The Deathly Hollows are artifacts that belong to a major player (maybe one of the following); Mother Winter, Hades and/or Odin.

What do you guys think? And how should I go about expanding upon this idea?

I guess I am out because I don't watch any of those shows, sorry.
Any other suggestions, then?

Let's say that Dresden gets dragged into the underworld of crime and meets one of the following criminals…how would he interact with them, treat them?

Raymond Reddington (The Blacklist), The Pontiac Bandit (Brooklyn 99), Frank Underwood (US House of Cards), etc.

DFRPG / Chronomancy– How To?
« on: July 15, 2017, 06:34:01 PM »
There's a new foe this week, in my friend's game; a Chronomancer Warlock, who'd discovered how to send his memories back to the better part of a day under his own power, more if he used the power of other sources such as storms, leylines, etc.

The problem is is that we need to figure out how to the same thing, (or at least I do, as GM), and send someone back to the past if they are unable to stop the warlock's spell.

How would I do this from a mechanical viewpoint?

So, what are you looking for here? Advice on how to handle it mechanically?

I'd probably make it an Aspect.
On a mechanical level…but you've answered me, so thanks!

DFRPG / The Book of Questions
« on: July 12, 2017, 01:31:29 PM »
I'm DM'ing my friend's game next week and I've had an idea for a lost Artifact* of the Archive:

Essentially, what I want to use is an intellectus book* version of the Archive, though when held by anyone not authorized by the Archive (currently Ivy) it only showcases a single subject to a single user when asked a single question for a period of a single lunar month (28 days), after which it becomes blank.

*Initially wasn't her artifact, but she claimed it and severely limited it potential after becoming aware its existence.
**Actually looks more like a scroll.

DFRPG / Re: Need Guidance: Spider-Man Build

On second thought, I think an IoP would work better. We still go with the Spider Totem theme, but now his character wears a literal totem necklace that is the source of his powers. Everything else stays the same, that would give you the following build:

- Breath Weapon -2 (in the end I went with no extra stunt for a Grapple effect, it can be simulated by using the attack as a manoeuvre to give your opponent an aspect like "entangled in my webs", no stunt needed)
- Echoes of the Beast -1 (to give him an alertness bonus to simulate the Spidey-sense)
- Spider Walk -1
- Wings -1 (for sling-web shooting through the skyscrapers)
- Cloak of Shadows -1 (for spider-like sneaking around)
- Inhuman Speed -2 (for his agility)
- Inhuman Strength -2

Which gives us a refresh cost of 10, take the +2 bonus from the IoP and you end up with refresh 8. If you play Chest Deep, drop the Cloak of Shadows for example.
Thank you!

DFRPG / Need Guidance: Spider-Man Build
« on: July 09, 2017, 04:25:28 AM »
One of the players of my friend's DFRPG session last night had arrived after having watched the new Spider-Man movie and all he wanted to do was play "Spider-Man". Since we couldn't figure out this week, he agreed to wait until next week, instead playing a "disposable" Uncle Ben character (as a reason for "Pete" to join the quest, after Ben dies).

Now, I had originally thought that he'd need a Mortal Scion build, but he kept insisting on a "pure"*-human build…help please?

*He's fine with a Practioner–>Wizard or Altered Human, but purely human beyond that.

DF Spoilers / Re: Mab, and Titania in love with another Starborn?
« on: July 08, 2017, 07:10:45 PM »
You know, if it wasn't Merlin, it could have been Arthur.

But if it wasn't either of them, (likely, since I recall that Shakespeare was only a few hundred years ago), it could have been Shakespeare himself…but nah, it could (and probably is), somebody else.

And Maeve wasn't of either of these, as I recall per WoG that it was an Austrian Composer, which means it was possibly Beethoven or Mozart.

So, with the cults of extraterrestrials that are in existence now, do you think links to other planets, even if they are fictional, could start to be being formed?

Jim has said that through the never-never, one COULD reach the Jedi Galaxy.
But are they the real thing (parallel or alternate universe) or just a reflection/demesne within the NeverNever?

This isn't an accident. He's never rezipped his pants.

Ever.
Heh. That does explain why Chairty knocks him on his ass /immediately/ after seeing Molly in the room in the next book.

Hey, I was rereading plus rehearing, Summer Knight (audiobook) and I noticed that in the scene that Harry is speaking with Maeve there's something a bit…odd, let's say. See, I noticed that after he's dumped the ice water on himself to get his libido in check, he /never/ rezips his pants.

Now…how long did it take for him to notice that he forgot about it? Did Billy ever mention it, shortly thereafter, making fun of Harry? Or did nobody notice this fact at all, even when he jumped Aurora? Because if he went like that the entire book, I can't decide whether the facts is that he was either being brave as sh*t, an absolute doofus, somewhat creepy (/if/ his fly was down when when he was killing Aurora), or some combination of the above.

Thoughts?
