DF Spoilers / Re: Does Thomas get a free pass?
« on: March 07, 2024, 09:41:55 PM »
My money's on Lea, she has after all shown the ability to target Red Court parasites without serious harm to the human being parasited. Why not a full removal on a white, as her 'redemption' (and presumably by Harry making a deal, because that would give just enough pain to him during an otherwise significant triumph).

Maybe it's seasonal decorations. It's summer's time of power so it's winter's time to decorate.

DF Spoilers / Re: Goodman Grey, nemfected?
« on: August 29, 2023, 03:27:10 PM »
This is interesting. If Lea hasn't been 'cured' but treated, then it could be that nemesis in some capacity remains with her or with Mab/Winter's Heart.  That split of power is a significantly higher investment than likely those of mere mortals.  It could be that like others said that power in stasis has led to a weakening of Nemesis' power that can be utilized outside of that stasis.
*mere* mortals?

As Harry aptly explained, mere mortals can defy absolutely everyone. Most don't, but they can. I wouldn't think infecting, say, Charity Carpenter would be cheaper/easier than infecting Maeve.

Perhaps the skull protects AND limits Bob? Perhaps it makes it impossible for him to go into body mode.

DF Spoilers / Re: Seelie Accords Ministry Meeting
« on: May 05, 2023, 09:06:17 AM »
That's not really how you have an executive committee meeting for a united war effort. The ministry meeting was more like an Anglo-American conference in WW2 before they met up with the Soviets later... they know they're not really allied, and if you were really going to have a single unified organisation you would included the WC.

Of course they all think the WC is moribund, but you don't go out and exclude them like that unless you're okay with snubbing them.

This is an interesting idea, but why would Dierdre have agreed to it?  If she was nemfected she would have to be resisting that infection to agree to be murdered to be freed from it, which is a rather extreme cure in any case.  I think I would rather be put in one of Mab's ice cubes and hope I didn't freeze to death.

My problem with this being the case is we have no reason to suggest that Dierdre had as much ability to resist being taken over than Lea or Cat Sith.  Lea just held herself together long enough to get Mab's help and Nemesis pretty much crushed Cat Sith's efforts to remain himself.  It's not an impossible idea, it just seems a bit far fetched to me.
To be fair though, Lea and Sith are Fae. And as Harry amply shows, when it comes to wilful denial of reality (and temptation) humans can beat anyone. They don't always, but they can.

DF Spoilers / Re: The Night of Bad Dreams
« on: May 05, 2023, 07:26:36 AM »
Well I am satisfied with the explanation for both Harry's amnesia and the bad dreams that an explosion of REALLY bad magic swept over the earth (and the nearer NeverNever) and probed who to blast out of existence. Babies (and their mothers) felt the probing and the potential impact scared the bejeezus out of them. Harry was at ground zero and the blast wrecked his mind.

But eh, if it proves portentous I'll be happy enough ;)

DF Spoilers / Re: Why is only one/2 swords active
« on: May 05, 2023, 07:14:11 AM »
WOJ on this:
How…how long will they have to wait to find out who will wield the Swords?
We’ll probably get the new wielder of Fidelacchius in Book 14 or 15. Um, Amoracchius is gonna, uh…(Jim chuckles evilly), that’s gonna be apocalypse time by the time we get [unintelligible].  Amoracchius is not one of those Swords that really rampages around the world very often, and when if does, you’ve heard about it, so..."

Almost makes you think Michael kinda could have dropped it after slaying the whole Dragon. That's what he did with it, Susan with Amorrachius helped shut down the Red Court, then Michael used it to release the Weapons of the Crucifixion, kinda makes 'saving the Archive' seem a bit weaksauce for all the years he had it after saving Charity. ;)

DF Spoilers / Re: Harry's Moving Island of Avalon
« on: April 16, 2023, 02:31:38 PM »
I do recall, I think in SG, that Harry remarked he wasn't really sure hewas still on the island when descending deep enough down - finding the depth implausible.

So rather than a moving island, 5 (or more) islands indeed connecting to the jail without being the same island would seem quite reasonable. Maybe the 5 classical continents (NAmerica, SAmerica, Europe, Asia, Africa).

And as disappearing islands go, there's Hy Brasil (off Ireland), Atlantis of course, Mu/Lemuria (in the Indian or Pacific Ocean, or both if they're two things), etcetera.

Of course there's an associated third option: the Fallen - being treacherous by nature - intending to abuse the Outsiders to achieve some goal, fully intending to stab their back if they should ever seem likely to succeed.

DF Spoilers / Re: Power Ranking. Top 50.

Eb’s a combat specialist, Langtry a defensive specialist so it would be a dead heat, both would die from heatstroke simultaneously from their exertions in a face off.
Duelling also kills Langtry's greatest strength, organizing. His mindtalking AND quick thinking saved a whole bunch of wizards.

Well, what if we changed 'absolve humanity of sin' to 'protect humanity from Outsiders'?
How about a combo, and the sin in question was calling up Outsiders?

DF Spoilers / Re: Lara and Harry sitting in a tree.......?
« on: June 06, 2022, 09:30:05 PM »
I am getting the impression, this isn't about Harry or controlling Harry or putting Molly in her place or whatever.
I am starting to think, that this is about LARA!
Putting Harry in a place where HE can control Lara and not Mab or Lara controlling him.
See, there was the fact that Justine/known host for Nemesis was for a very long time very close to Lara and her Court. Close enough to manipulate and possibly take control.
There was Lord Raith presumably in a pact with at least one Outsider (summoned HHWB in Blood Rites).
Thomas has been influenced by Justinemesis to attack the swartalf king.
Can Mab trust Lara under these circumstances?

Who would be better suited to put in a place in which Lara is bound to him by a marriage contract and vows than the infamous Winter Knight/wizard/Starborn known defeater of mind controllers Harry Dresden?

Or it is about punishment. Lara did send Mab a calculated insult by imprisoning tiny faeries during White Night. Harry resolved the issue, but he did not punish Lara. And what better way to punish Lara than making her obligated to protect Harry and live through the general mayhem that is 'anywhere close to Harry Dresden'.

DF Spoilers / Re: Adaptation Do's and Don'ts

No, they cannot pronounce Judgement on evildoers, that is the mistake Murphy made and got a Sword broken.  It is for the Almighty to judge, not them, they try to pursued the evil doer to seek redemption in the case of the Denarians... And they can kill in self defense or to save others, that gets a bit complicated, but they absolutely cannot judge.
Details. Sure, for the individual, but when the Almighty wants to use a handy tool, they get the necessary power-up.

The Knights of the Cross are still ordinary vanilla humans.  Butters has trained hard, but he has a lot to learn, he is far from being a Jedi.  The Holy Knights are still subject to injury and death.. So yeah, with the help of the Holy Swords they step up, but they are limited.
Subject to injury and death, maybe. But also able to walk into a Dragon's lair and walk out with its hostages. Or to pronounce Judgement on whole Courts of evildoers.

In other words: they may technically be limited, but it really is convenient-level limited than power-level limited.
