DFRPG / Harry suppresses his hex
« on: November 04, 2011, 10:45:59 AM »
I have just began to read DEATH MASKS where Harry at the beginning is suppressing his technology hex. So we all know it is possible to do it, although it is describesd as difficult and straining.
But, coming to rules, how can a wizard do it? And if he does it, could it be less straining with thaumaturgy?

DFRPG / Slow fall spell
« on: October 11, 2011, 08:05:05 AM »
it is often described that it is very difficult to fly with magic. But how about a spell to slowly float to the ground instead of crashing into the turf. It would be a air spell (obviously), but how would you build such a spell?

DFRPG / WCVs and Sunlight
« on: August 26, 2011, 08:52:26 PM »
we are developing characters forur campaign and a question came up for which I have no qick answer: Can WCVs handle sunlight or are hey bound to the night like othe vampires?

DFRPG / Weapons and the law
« on: August 26, 2011, 06:16:18 AM »
I'm thinking a lot about how to deal with the weapon laws in Germany (only for my DF-campaign, that is... ;)). In the books as well as in YS, wepaons are an integral part to defend (or to attack) your enemies. In the US, this seems plausible, because you have the right to own weapons and it is relatively easy to carry a weapon. In Germany, even owning weapons is strictly prohibited and carrying a weapon in the public is illigal for everyone (besides the police). So I fear that using weapons will bring the characters some trouble. On the other side, it's a part of the game - most people have no other choice to fight the monsters, haven't they?
So, any suggestions how to handle this or some experience from european players?

DFRPG / Outsiders and Lovecraft
« on: August 24, 2011, 12:21:37 PM »
simple question: Was HP Lovecraft trying to do the same to outsiders as Bram Stroker to Black Court Vampires by writing stories about them...?

DFRPG / Tattoos for other Vampires
« on: August 19, 2011, 08:24:44 AM »
is it possible (or should it be), that the tattoos of St.Giles help protect "Near-Vampires" of other Courts tha the red one. As far as I know, the red and the white Court have the phenomen that inflicted persons have a half-state where they are not full vampires. So, at least for  the white Court Virgins I would assume that either the tattos of St. Giles help these Virgins, too, or that there is something simular for them.
As for the black Court, I don't know about how they get their progeny, but if they have an inflicted-but-not-crossed-over-state, than there might be a protection for them, too.
What do you think?

DFRPG / McAnally's and other places
« on: August 12, 2011, 11:22:41 AM »
I was wondering what makes McAnally's Pub so special. The books seem to suggest that there is some kind of protection in his pub, besides considered neutral ground (is this so?). But how does that work? All the mirrors, placement of tables etc., is there a clear (and explained) purpose?
I'm asking because I want to include something like McAnally's in my own campaing and was wondering if there should be certain elements in it in order to work...

DFRPG / Constructs used by characters
« on: August 08, 2011, 06:55:54 AM »
how can a character build and/or use a construct with the rules given? Aczually, I have no clue...

DFRPG / enhanced senses by a spell and how to explain them
« on: August 03, 2011, 07:31:54 AM »
I tried to make a spell who can enhance or change one or more senses of a wizard. So, obviously, magic could be used to give the wizard a +2 to alertness or investigation rolls because he is much mor aware of the things around him. But what if he want's to hear in the ultrasonic spectrum or see in the dark? First, I'm not sure how to handle such spells and second. I would like to have an intime explanation what happens to the wizards senses (or perceptive organs) to be able to sense in such a way.

DFRPG / Destroyed items and the consequences
« on: July 29, 2011, 07:08:19 AM »
in the novels of Harry Dresden, I read that regularly one (or more) of Harry's items are destroyed, molten, burning etc. In the rulebook, I have found nothing that relates to that. So, how can (in the game) items be destroyed or damaged and what happens then? Are they totally useless, will some kind of regenerate or can the owner replace them with another item?

DFRPG / Technomancer
« on: July 28, 2011, 08:02:25 AM »
could there be such a thing like a "Technomancer", a practitioner who specialises in manipulating (not destroying) tech?
Rulewise, I definitely think it is possible to build up a character like this, but is it consistent with the dresdenverse, wher magic interrupts technology?

DFRPG / items usable by others?
« on: July 26, 2011, 06:56:46 PM »
I don't know if tis topic has been covered already... I was wpndering if focus items and enchanted items are usabe by others or can even be retrieved from beaten enemies...?

DFRPG / city size
« on: July 24, 2011, 06:54:00 PM »
I'm planning to GM a group and for this, I'm loking for a good place to play.
As there are many very convenient cites in Germany who could be a nice place, most of them aren't very big. So I asked myself if there should be a minimum size (or number of inhabiltants) for a city to us it for a campaign?

DFRPG / mindreading with a volunteer?
« on: July 24, 2011, 06:50:06 PM »
a question came to my mind when I read through the laws of the white council: Is a mindreading a breaking og the third law, if the person whose mind ist read agrees to this?

DFRPG / ignoring or acting against a block
« on: July 22, 2011, 05:57:43 AM »
I've just read through the "block"-rules an the question came to my mind what characters could do to act against a block or what would happen if they choose to ignore it.
Acting against a block has a number of obvious applications like pushing against a door which is held from the other side. But what happens if, in the example with a bullet curtain, a character declares "I give it a try and run. They still have to hit me."?
