DFRPG / What happened to The Paranet Papers?
« on: May 20, 2014, 06:42:25 PM »
Does anyone know if the expansion for the RPG is still in the works? I haven't heard anything official about it in ages and a internet search yielded nothing new.

DFRPG / What are your favorite aspects?
« on: April 13, 2013, 10:18:25 AM »
I know there are some great aspects out there and I'd like to here them. They can be your own characters aspects, a player's aspects from your game or just some that you came across that you really like.

DFRPG / How would you guys handle this?
« on: April 05, 2013, 01:25:48 PM »
So there is this player in my game who has a character with some inhuman abilities tied into a spirit from the Nevernever sharing his brain space (kind of a Harry-Lasciel sort of thing). Now, the player wants his powers (inhuman strength, toughness, recovery) limited by the spirit's nature/agenda. The spirit is a spirit of justice, so anything involving vengeance or even mercy can conflict with the spirit's nature, negating or weakening his powers.

How would you guys handle this in terms of game mechanics? We've played with some ideas before but it hasn't really come up yet in the campaign. We were thinking of something based off of the vampire's hunger stress track or maybe something like a sponsor debt. Or should it be some sort of catch?

DFRPG / We're finally going to play!
« on: December 03, 2012, 06:36:55 AM »
Got the two game books for my birthday in June. Immediately started trying to put together a group to play together regularly. Took me four months to find enough people and to get them to agree on a time to play.

Our GM is a gaming veteran who doesn't have a whole lot of GMing experience, then there's me who's only vaguely familiar with pen-and-paper RPGs but is essentially an expert on the source material. And then there are our other three players who have never done any gaming before.... This is going to have a high learning curve. The GM and I set out to teach the other three the game mechanics as well as the basics of the source material. We meet every other Sunday for almost three months, helping them build the characters they want, playing a practice game or two, and building our city. In the last month we finally finished our city and character creation. It felt like it would never end.

Wait, what's that? City created? Character's done? GM prepared? Players are anxious to start?

We actually get to play the game next sunday!!!  :D

DFRPG / Spending two Fate points to Invoke two Aspects?
« on: September 17, 2012, 05:04:47 PM »
I was discussing this with the GM of the game I help run. I don't the rules don't specifically forbid invoking two aspects at once for two fate points. This does seem to be a bit unfair at at the same time, if a player wants to spend two fate points on essentially one action and understands the implications, I fee like letting him make that choice.

Do any of you allow this in your games?

DFRPG / Other Ideas for the Catch, your thoughts?
« on: August 09, 2012, 10:41:39 PM »
I'm helping someone put a game together and one of our players wants his character to have a Catch that is mental in nature, rather than physical. He's building a character who I guess fuels his physical abilities from being possessed by a powerful spirit and that if he behaves in a way opposite of the spirit (its a Spirit of Justice), it somehow satisfies the Catch. In theory I don't have an issue with this, in fact it sounds kind of interesting. The only concern both the GM and I had is that it stays balanced obviously. Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas on this? The obvious solution is to have the Catch somehow affect his mental stress or maybe use a vampire sheet and use the hunger stress track.

DFRPG / Buffy or Slayer-like Character?
« on: July 31, 2012, 10:52:18 PM »
Hey there, I'm working on putting new a game together in the next few weeks with a fellow Dresden fan and one of the players wants to play as a Slayer-like character. As in he pretty much wants a character with Inhuman Strength and Speed but not one who is a vampire or a scion (ie: subject to the hunger/thirst or mortality vs. supernatural Choice). I get where he's coming from, he's read a few of the books and instead of being a magical player (like Harry) he wants to be physical threat to the vamps, faeries, and baddies we go up against while still remaining a "free agent".

The problem is that he agreed that it should stay true to the source material and we haven't been able to come up with an idea that works the way we'd like. Power in the Dresdenverse is never free. Has anyone created a similar character or have any ideas?

DFRPG / What Template would you use for an exiled Fomor?
« on: June 06, 2012, 11:25:43 PM »
Been wanting to write up a PC who is an exiled Prince of the Fomor but it doesn't seem to fit very well with the established templates. What would you guys use? Emissary of Power? (even though he's exiled?) Focused Practitioner?

DFRPG / Just Got Your Story and I Have Some Questions
« on: June 04, 2012, 03:56:11 AM »
Hey there, I just got the Dresden Files RPG: Your Story for my birthday. I don't have prior RPG gaming experience and I was hoping someone could shed some light on a few questions I had after reading (or point me in the direction of further reading). In general most of it seems straight forward but there are some things I'm not clear on.

- Is there a limit or some kind of restriction to the number of aspects a character can have? I know you get five of them with the creation process through the background and guest stars but can you ad some to flesh out a character more. Do you have to earn more through gameplay or is it something thats up to the gamemaster?

-How exactly do your characters grow stronger and more experienced? Are they rewarded more powers/stunts/whatever after completing an adventure?

- Can anyone point me to a good resource for high concept examples?
