DFRPG / E-Branch (Supernatural Spies)
« on: June 29, 2010, 04:43:16 PM »
I have been going through my Necroscope books by Brian Lumley. Obviously, Wamphyri do not in my opinion fit into the Dresdenverse well. Hey if someone wants to toss them in to their game go right ahead.

What I found and love in the books is Brian Lumley's E-Branch idea which he wrote during the Cold War. The idea is a person with ESP (or minor talent/focused practioner in Dresdenverse) who works for British (MI-13) or Russian (Chateau Bronnitsy) Intelligent Services as a ESP Spy these divisions are dubbed E-Branches. Brian Lumley is British so he favors his country. The Necroscope RPG that West End Games came out with in their E-Branch Book mentioning the American Division, but I need to pull that book out of storage for the name.

I was playing with the idea of some sleeper agents from the old KGB E-Branch operative lost in the Cold War, but I was thinking well it was a little too old would not be happening in this day and age. The Cold War is over so my idea might not work.

Then last night I read an article about 11 Russian Sleeper Agents Caught Here in the US. looks like the workings of the old KGB is still in full swing.

So I am dusting off that idea for my game but I am wondering anyone else working on E-Branch Spies for their game? I am going to making some templates based on that idea.

Anyone else thinking of the same idea Supernatural Spies tossing them in their game?

DFRPG / Bringing on Other Book Source Material Into Your Dresden RPG
« on: June 18, 2010, 05:11:32 PM »
Okay I am running a Dresden Game in Albuquerque/Sante Fe area. When myself and my players started to build the city one of my players, a big Anita Blake fan, tossed in ideas bringing in elements from the Obsidian Butterfly. I was not sure of this at first, but she pointed out as she is a huge Dresden fan as well that Itzpapalotl, the Master Vampire of the City in the Anita Blake novel, would be a high ranking Royal in the Blood Court. We all decided to add to our city.

Itzpapalotl is now a high ranking Red Court Royal in our city now obviously she is not 100% like the character in the Anita Blake novel. We made her for the Dresdenverse.

Rereading Obsidian Butterfly as I am in the middle of the book, she has some good points which is helping with our city creation. Now we decided to break Dresdenverse Canon and add in these elements into the game. There are some good NPCs I can use many of whom would work like Lt. Marks and Det. Hernando Ramirez for example.

After already tweaking/breaking Dresdenverse canon, I have started to borrow from other paranormal books as well taking in those elements I think would work in my game. Some of the books I have taken elements (note: not taking everything) from are:
  • Rachel Morgan Series by Kim Harrison, her general ideas on Demons, Potion Making, Little Ones, Fey help the game.
  • Riley Jenson Series by Keri Arthur, her general ideas of the government using Supernaturals works very well with my ideas.
  • Otherworld Series by Kelley Armstrong, her various ideas from werewolf behavior, magic and ideas on focus practioners in her books
  • Kitty Norville Series by Carrie Vaughn, various ideas from other supernaturals on human hunters against supernaturals and tactics to some more werewolf behavior.

There are a few others but I find you can adapt alot into the Dresdenverse without much work keeping much of the same concepts of the other authors which works great with Dresdenverse.

So am I the only one doing this? If not what are some of your own outside Dresdenverse sources?

DFRPG / Guns & Equipment
« on: May 21, 2010, 03:36:18 PM »
One of my players wants to play a character with the powers of being able to bend and control her bullets like in the movie Wanted and like the character Rally Vincent from the manga Gunsmith Cats. She wants to be able to control the bullets and not kill her Skips (she is playing a bounty hunter).

So a Focused Practioner seems to fit the bill a Kineticmancer type. We are working on the powers and spells but we have noticed a lack of weapons and guns.

My player is wanting some stats on the type of guns and well so do I. Even some general equipment as well.

Am I missing something in my two books? Or is there a place I can get this information for this system outside of the game? Even buying one of Evil Hat's other books for the stats I will.
