DFRPG / Chronomancer issues
« on: July 20, 2010, 08:06:11 PM »
Hi all,

I have a player that is playing a focused practitioner with the chronomancy specialty. This has of course evolved from their powers of Cassandra's Tears and Psychometry. Anyway, They came up with a spell that I found rather ingenious, but somewhat scary (nevermind that whole sixth law thing...  ;D)

Stuck Between the Ticks
Power: 10 shifts (assuming the base 3 for maneuver cost)

3 maneuvers, 2 exchanges
Places the aspects of "Stuck", "Between", and "Tick" on a single target for 2 exchanges. These aspects each subtract 2 from a targets athletics (dodge) skill for the duration of the spell.
This spell is designed as a last ditch "time-out" spell for the chronomancer, when all seems lost.

Is this legal? Just wondering.

edit: Legal as in rules wise, not the sixth law type legal.  ::)

DFRPG / Items of power with the same abilities
« on: May 17, 2010, 08:26:42 PM »
I have a player that would like to have a pair of pistols similiar to the infamous Colt from the Supernatural TV show. I know that the cost is bundled into one category, but how would you cost two items with exactly the same abilitites? Cost it as one pistol and give it a reduced bonus due to multiple items? I'm kinda stumped.

DFRPG / Kublacon, Memorial Day Weekend
« on: May 14, 2010, 07:59:34 PM »
Anyone planning on going? I signed up for a couple of games, but didn't see any DFRPG games posted. If there's enough interest, maybe we can all get together for a game. Or at least do a meet & greet and talk about the game  ;D

DFRPG / Physical "Building Block" powers as Mental or Social powers
« on: May 14, 2010, 06:03:22 PM »
I was thinking about the boosted physical powers in the book and it struck me that there is a lack of any power that does this for Mental or Social attributes. Has anyone tried to tie these powers to another aspect other than the physical aspect?

My intial thought was a Buddha type character, completely unflappable and serene in all environements, no matter what is thrown at them. Maybe an ancient monk versed in martial arts who has been enlightened?

Thoughts?

DFRPG / New GM tools for you
« on: May 13, 2010, 02:02:04 AM »
Hi All,

I made this Scene Sheet to help keep my head around the story I was telling. I found that they also really helped to organize my thoughts on the fly when the PCs went off track. Its worked really well so far and I wanted to share this with everyone. Tell me what you think.  ;D

Their formatted as 2-up because I like to save paper. I print them 2 sided, cut them in half, and place them in a half size 3-ring binder. Works great and keeps my GM area clear. You could also take it to your favorite print/copy shop and have them make a pad of them.

My players claim it's OCD, but I disagree, I think I just like to stay extremely organized!!!  ::) ;D

I'm working on some more, specifically a Minor/Supporting NPC sheet, and a Major NPC sheet.

DFRPG / Custom Fate Tokens
« on: April 22, 2010, 04:53:06 PM »
I was playing around with my character sheet last night when I noticed that the "Current Fate Points" circular section on the Character Sheet fits a Poker Chip almost perfectly, so it got me thinking. Has there been any thought to producing a custom DFRPG token similiar to the bennies that Pinnacle Entertainment does for its Deadlands and Savage Worlds games. There are a couple companies out there that produce high quality fully customizable chips for not too much. For instance: BR Pro Poker does some outstanding chips. I love their zombie line. :)

DFRPG / Another crafting question
« on: April 11, 2010, 03:11:13 PM »
 ::) I know, I know...  ;D

I was thumbing through my Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Crystal, Gem & Metal Magic trying to get some inspiration for some unique items when a thought struck me.

Is it possible to craft an item, so that instead of providing a bonus of any type, it absorbs the stress of magic being cast? My thinking is that of a persistent enchanted item that acts as a "Reserve" battery of a sort. My thoughts are that when crafting, the spellcaster would suffer stress to create the item, then take half back as stored personal energy. I think it would follow the 1/2 rule as well. 2 stress = 1 in reserve and so on...
For fluff sake, I'm thinking that it causes such a strain on the Wizard's pattern, that it can only be done occasionally, hence the once per session rule. Maybe it could be built as a potion? Trying to go for more utility than power. :)

I searched the boards and didn't find a reference to this subject. Everything I've seen has been for items that help power levels, etc. So if it is mentioned, I apologize in advance.

Thoughts? and Thanks!

DFRPG / Jim Butcher Q&A at Mysterious Galaxy, San Diego CA
« on: April 10, 2010, 10:06:38 PM »
I had the privilege of attending Jim's Q&A/signing event here in San Diego. It was a great time. A lot of questions about the Dresden Files, The Codex Alera, and even about the RPG. There was a significant interest in the game. I brought my full-color bound copy of the Pre-release, so I ended up showing A LOT of people the game. There was significant interest in the game. Even an elderly couple asked me about it. I think among the non-gamer types, they were still excited with Our World. Which is promising.

During the signing, I showed Jim the large blank space in OW and asked, "So... How's this coming?"

He kinda slumped into his chair with his head down and said, "I'm working on it, I swear!!!" He laughed about it though, he was happy to see the game in the wild.

I also got a great little gem, a "First RPG Sig!" on the cover of YS as well as his autograph. I was doing the Snoopy dance last night :D

edit: Thanks for the help!!!

DFRPG / A question about powers
« on: April 02, 2010, 02:18:28 AM »
I just downloaded the Powers list from the DFRPG site and have already started fleshing out PC ideas with giddy excitement for next week's pre-release. That being said, I came up with an interesting idea for a power.

Imagine a wizard who, when faced with overwhelming opponents, can transform himself into a murder of crows to confuse his enemies and escape unharmed.

It also works well for those dramatic exits and impressing the ladies...  ;D

is this even possible?

I imagine it being similiar to the teleport potion that Harry used in Storm Front.

DFRPG / Exorcism Question
« on: March 06, 2010, 03:12:40 AM »
Just wondering from those in the know  ;),

How does the DFRPG handle exorcism? I just finished reading some old Hellblazer graphic novels and decided to watch Constantine. I thought this would fit really well in a darker version of Jim's world. So...

Any clues?  ;D

DFRPG / Hi All! And I brought gifts!
« on: March 01, 2010, 10:45:49 PM »
Long Time lurker, first time poster.  ::)

I wanted to share some things that I've put together for our current House-Rule Dresden game until the real thing comes out. Hope you enjoy.

-You'll notice I used a font design similar to that of the TV Show as I designed this before the new Artwork released. oh well :)

http://thesavagemage.wdfiles.com/local--files/rpg-stuff/DFRPG%20Zone%20Diagram.pdf
-The Zone Diagram I've had for a while. I've used a version of it since I started playing SotC to help with abstraction of ranges. The new bit is the ritual circle and the ritual target.

http://thesavagemage.wdfiles.com/local--files/rpg-stuff/DFRPG%20Character%20Sheet.pdf
-The Character Sheet is of course based off of the one Fred posted. We've made some house rules based off of a judicious study of a lot of the playtest notes we've seen out there. Still, some of it we've had to just say, "hmmm, pretty."

Oh, and I'm praying for an April Pre-release. One of my players is so excited he's about to suffer from a nervous breakdown.
