...the son of Tera West and Harley MacFinn, right? Bad luck for him if so.

DF Spoilers / After the BAT?
« on: September 21, 2021, 10:31:53 PM »
I am reading The High King to my kids. So good! Spoiler alert for this book:

Magic leaves Prydain after Arawn's defeat.

Could something similar occur in the Dresdenverse at the conclusion of the BAT? I'd be inclined to say no because magic is part of the "physics" of the universe, but perhaps if the Outsiders are finally defeated (big if) these physics could change. Maybe magical beings would still exist but not interact with mortals, unless they were divine/angelic. Maybe "talent" would no longer occur among mortals. Maybe God will hit a big ol' reset button (but not in a Matrix kind of way, shudder).

DF Spoilers / Who is Nicodemus?
« on: May 24, 2021, 12:02:17 AM »
The text in church today was John 3:1-15, in which Pharisee and member of the Sanhedrin (the ruling body of Jews) Nicodemus visits Jesus by night and asks him about the kingdom of Heaven. This guy later provided a bunch of expensive spices for Jesus's burial. So...probably not "our" Nicodemus...but it'd be kind of intriguing (and awfully sad) if he were. Thoughts on Nicky's identity? We know he may have been around when Jesus walked the earth, and he knows how to drive a chariot.

DF Spoilers / Mother Winter and Mother Summer Are the Same, Right?
« on: March 21, 2021, 11:02:31 PM »
There's the bit in CD where the Mothers talk about Dresden guessing "our" names, when he was summoning Mother Winter; I thought I remembered a WoJ saying that Titania was MS's daughter, and Mab was the daughter of MW, and Mab and Titania are sisters. Am I off base?

(Sorry for the lack of quotes. I'm typing one handed while feeding the baby.)

DF Spoilers / Does anyone else find Maggie unconvincing?
« on: February 27, 2021, 02:44:26 PM »
I mentioned this in another thread, but it's bugging me. She's too angelic and obedient, and we're told rather than shown that she's traumatized from her experiences. "Zoo Day" didn't ring true--she isn't like any of the kids I've known, including those with bad histories or who are in foster care. Granted, I'm no expert, but I am a parent (albeit to nontraumatized kids), I've volunteered with children in tough situations, and my sister-in-law fostered kids for a couple of years. Maggie just doesn't feel real to me.

Harry-as-child is a lot more convincing--especially as an angry, scared, defensive, impulsive teen. Maggie doesn't appear to have the slightest difficulty fitting in with multiple caregivers. She falls asleep in Harry's arms when he's a relative stranger, and I just about threw up when she asks him if he wants to be her daddy. She doesn't act out, EVER.

DF Spoilers / The best DF stories...
« on: February 06, 2021, 06:54:54 PM »
...are fun and have Moments of Awesome. Skin Game has bad things (e.g. Murphy's injury) and emotional moments, but I like it because it's a fun heist story and has Butters' Jedi moment.

Dead Beat...well. I don't need to point out the awesomeness of Harry riding a zombie dinosaur.

Cold Days has an exhilarating climax in which Harry smacks down Santa Claus and leads the Wild Hunt. (Actually, any time the Erl King is around tends to be enjoyable--my favorite scene in Changes was the duel in his domain.) Gard's appearance on the island in Small Favor gives me all manner of cheap thrills.

It's why Ghost Story and the two latest books are among my least favorites. They just don't have enough fun, or moments when I want to yell "Yay!" Agree? Disagree?

DF Books / So how is BG?
« on: September 30, 2020, 04:33:30 PM »
Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I will not be receiving Battle Ground until Christmas (I got Peace Talks for my birthday). Please tell me, without spoilers, how is this book? How does it compare to PT, and to other books in the series? Did it answer questions raised in PT? Thanks!
