DF Spoilers / Re: DragonCon 2021 Starborn or Star Born?
« on: September 14, 2021, 12:05:09 AM »
Depends on which Jim feels adds more drama and twists the blade for readers and Harry , but given that Susan's protection stuck around for a while after they split I would lean more to it being one the things between Lara and Harry that is going to cause turmoil. Personally hope it sticks around for while just to drive the LaraxHarry shippers mad  ;D

While I do hope that Harry and Lara get together, the true love thing will actually become more a problem if the ship sails If it's a one time hookup for consummation of the marriage, it's just an easily(not the same as willingly or willfully) cancelled inconvenience. If they fall for each other they end up with the Thomas/Justine problem and I can't see Harry being as accepting of their "solution".

Mother Summer is sentimental. That doesn't mean she can't or won't do what's necessary. For example, disciplining a child is a necessary act, but a bad parent can get sadistic joy from it but a good parent feels bad about doing it. Either way the job is still done.

DF Spoilers / Re: Who do you think the Vampires took from Eb?
« on: August 30, 2021, 02:47:54 PM »
Eb does not know Thomas is his grandson until Harry tells him about it in PT. It is possible that someone else on the White Council knows they'd probably keep it secret until they could use it to influence or weaponize against EB.

Thomas is the only living son of Lord Raith. He's had others but got rid of them all.

You are ignoring the fact that Namshiel is a fallen angel, even if he isn't an archangel he can wield power beyond the comprehension of most.. So yes, Namshiel could do it without help in my opinion, angels without restraint [the Fallen don't play by the rules, that is why they are fallen] has the power to do it without help.

The Fallen are allowed to cheat but any cheating they do the other angels are allowed to balance. If they were throwing around their personal power directly, Uriel and his companions would be allowed to directly interfere. If they had added their power to the Archive, I think she wins the battle outright.

But there is a loophole. Any magic that the Denarians are using is either part of their of their merged forms or an expansion of their host's talent. Given a host with some talent they can teach them magic. But they obviously need a minimum level of talent to work with or else Nic would be a White Council level wizard by now. Thorned Namshiel is probably the best magic user of the Fallen and thus was able to teach Lartessa and Marcone. And even still we're probably only talking an average White Council wizard level not a senior council member or a powerful warden. They're scary because they have superhuman physical abilities to go along with their magic.

DF Spoilers / Re: True Love's Protection
« on: August 26, 2021, 06:47:22 PM »
We know that Harry's love for Murphy was true because it burned Lara when in PT as they were stripping to go down the laundry chute.

I'm sure Mab is aware. She wouldn't miss details like Lara wearing gloves to give the castle keys to Harry. She's not counting on that protection though, she could care less if they consummate the marriage as long as the alliance goes through. If it does have to be consummated for "reasons" then she's counting on Harry, Lara and Molly(I'd say this is part of the arrangements but that is debatable) to work something out.

I'm sure Lara knows if the protection continues after Murphy's death. It's bound to have come up before.

It's not unfaithful to move on a year after Murphy's death. Harry has a stronger than normal libido due to the Winter Knight Mantle and will have plenty of offers and opportunities. A one night stand or even a short term relationship would be the simplest way to resolve the dilemma, but Jim won't resolve that plot point without some handwringing. After all, losing the protection would place Harry in more danger.

The real twist would be if they fall for each other after facing a year of adversity. It makes Harry's life more complicated and passes the Harry's love interest doom flag to Lara.

Molly dances to Mab's tune no less than Harry.  This is precisely what happened to Maeve and Molly is not Mab's daughter.

Agreed, Molly will help Harry with any plan he or others come up with that doesn't violate her orders. But Mab's order keeps her from being a planner.

Maybe, maybe not, I don't see the engagement lasting that long, Molly is on the case.  And even if Eb doesn't show up on Harry's doorstep, I don't see him remaining in the Council after this.

Molly has been directly commanded by Mab to see to all the arrangements for the wedding. About the only thing she can do is leak information but I doubt she'd want to put Harry in danger  in any way so she's got to play it pretty straight.

But if Justine is not driving, then how do the cornerhounds get summoned?

I doubt she would have sent Thomas on a suicide mission and then summoned an assassination squad against Harry of her own choice. That was Nemesis. And if it can summon Outsiders with controlled victims, then why do it in the backyard of the defenders of reality instead of a secluded hidden fortress?

Don't get me wrong. I love these books and I hope I survive to see the end of the story. But there are plot holes and inconsistencies just not enough to ruin it for me.

But it does, Justine has every reason to either distract or be rid of Harry.  Actually it is the reader who is distracted because of the peace talks and the Battle of Chicago, both are the real distractions, while Nemesis makes it's moves.  You said there must be limits to what a mortal can call up at any time otherwise it makes no sense or it is bad story telling.  However I think you are mistaken, if the Enemy is smart, it isn't going to reveal itself willy nilly..

Doesn't have to be willy nilly if they are smart. Take over some island that is semi-isolated and just summon them in until you have large force. Then just do what Ethniu should have done. Attack a large coastal city with no warning, massacre a 100k+ people and retreat before the cavalry arrives. Do it several times until the Supernatural/Mundane war gets going. It won't be a big blow to the Accorded Nations in one fell swoop, but supposedly the Outsiders are playing the long game.

DF Spoilers / Re: Outsiders origins
« on: August 19, 2021, 04:31:49 PM »
I see it a little more simply.

In the time before Creation, there was Chaos and all the Primordial Beings lived in the same environment.

Then boom! TWG and his followers make their own private area. But it's bright and noisy and makes the Outsiders work around it to do anything and it doesn't adhere to the pre-existing rules.

Basically, reality is that new or remodeled house that the Outsider HOA can't stand but that they can't find a way to make conform.

DF Spoilers / Re: How long did Thomas know?
« on: August 15, 2021, 05:45:39 PM »

I think another interesting question along these lines would be why Nemesis would have given Thomas the mission then at all.  It drives a hard wedge between the White Court and the svartalves, causing tension in the peace talks, but that's almost immediately put aside when Ethniu puts her foot down... literally.  What was the goal with revealing Justine's possession to Thomas then?  To tie up Harry's time?  To what end?  For new divides in the Accords?

Harry answers that in his conversation with Justine on the boat. It was all part of the con to make Harry to get Justine invited access to Demonreach.

DF Spoilers / Re: Could Harry become a signatory to the Accords?
« on: August 08, 2021, 02:33:16 PM »
Nah, nothing so dire. The Paranet isn't organized enough to become an Accorded nation, but I bet with the Librarians, a new organization could be formed.

Combine the funding and resources of a secret government organization with the grass-roots network and neighborhood watch-nature developed during the war with the fomor, and you've got the basis for a new faction.

They could probably scrounge up three sponsors, and set up The Congress of Practitioners or something.

The Accorded nations would have to respect such an organization if only because it could tell the military where to shoot. They could raise layered ward around important sites. Not strong enough to stop an incursion, but enough to slow the initial rush and summon security that would normally be stopped by hexed equipment. Just putting up circles around crucial areas is priceless.

I like this idea but it could quickly become unwieldy and I could see it fracturing into regional and national squabbles.

Yeah against your run-of-the-mill stuff, sure, but when you're talking about things that might want to have a go at Odin, probably not so much.

They wouldn't be much use as bodyguards if they couldn't go against things that want to take a shot at Odin would they? They seem confident that they could take Harry down with only a 50/50 chance of him getting one of them.

DF Spoilers / Re: Could Harry become a signatory to the Accords?

One has been taken away, and while he might have been in some ways subject to the accords, as Winter Knight he is NOT Sidhe, he is their AGENT.  Sort of like a civilian contractor to the Army. They may have some Army rules they have to follow, but they are not IN the Army.  This would let him BE a member. But Wizard of Chicago? Maybe Warden of Demonreach....

I think marriage to Lara might be enough to get coverage from the White Court where the Accords are concerned.

DF Spoilers / Re: What will Eb do?

Yeah. Explicitly to go after Wamps. I would expect the Librarians to be collectors of artifacts as well as knowledge. Or I hope. Just maybe not in a magical warehouse...

But they have the Smithsonian right there. That's too good not to use .
