You forgot the psychic trama Molly suffered at CI.

mouse has been beaten up pretty well by sveveral different foes, and was shot in Turn Coat.

If you wanted to you could put Martin who seemingly betrayed everyone to destroy the red court in addition to being killed.

Shiro was brutally sacrificed.

You could also debatably put Molly getting turned into winter lady on that list.

I can remember a WoJ where someone asked if Harry's new summoning ring and Little Chicago and stuff were destroyed in the fire in Changes and Jim said something that left a little wiggle room like, "Everything in the appartment was burnt down.  Fire destroys magical properties, and I wanted to take pretty much everything from Harry in that book" (that might be a few other seperate WoJ's thrown together).

The point is, there was a little bit of wiggle room in that, in that maybe LC wasn't in the appt when it burnt down.  However, this WoJ was released onto the interwebs earlier this week and it leaves much less wiggle room WRT LC.

Interviewer:  And Harry’s lost all of his stuff – even his mini model of Chicago!

Jim:  Yeah, it all burned up in his apartment.

Would you look down on me if I pointed out that he never specifies that mini Chicago burned, and that one could argue that since Lea took it it no longer is Harry's belongings but Mabs?

  • I still haven't completely* ruled out the idea that whoever fixed LC saved it before the burndown in Changes (see #2)
*not that I think it's likely or anything.

Hey Lea has done crazier things in her time, and she had the ability/entrance too.

Oh god, why am I imagining a terrible ritual involving the stone slab, and little chicago as a catalyst/foci now?

I was talking about when Demonreach explained through Bob how the island was made. I'm not at home so I can't get the exact quote.

He said the power he could match, but the complexity of the system was beyond even Bob.

Thank you for putting this together, really interesting, will use this as a guide to look forward in new books :P.

Also goes well with Lea and the legends about her.

not really bad ass per se just more active in getting stuff done. i don't understand...? but kimori working with cowl doesn't negate a nyarl connection, every incarnation of him is different. ever read stephen kings dark tower? according to nyarl wiki randall flagg was nyarl. i didn't know this from reading it at all. as kimori seems to be working with him based on very skewed perceptions deception is involved probably. nyarl doesn't have to be precisely as depicted elsewhere as jims flavor of reality would definitely shift his character. possibly nyarl doesn't have the power inside the gates he should? its better said that nemesis is nyarl and cowl is his vessel, especially as harrys feel of his magic is that its human and not the greasier stuff used by black court or others. mmm notice black magic is discribed with the same (if lessened) feel as outsiders are? ahhh i wonder...

Eh I seriously doubt he needs a vassal/avatar like Cowl, it just goes against the core of what Lovecraft wanted in Nyarl, as he was the outer god that walked among man, having an avatar is a pretty big shift from his identity. Him being Nemesis is possible, would go along well what what he is. Also while Cowl is seriously tough, he has been shown to be wounded from fights with Harry and HWWB didn't seem to retain anything from Harrys first encounter in WK.

So I read most of lovecraft during my senior year of highschool (5 years ago) so bear with me, but Nyarl was a badass as far as outer gods go. He was the only active one of the outer gods, could walk on earth, loved chaos and deception above death and destruction, and was the son of Azathoth. He wouldn't need an avatar to walk around with if we go by legends, and if we go by beings of his size (he would at least be Mother level) then I guess he might but Cowl doesn't seem to fit him to well, as he always worked his con alone if I remember right (Kumori puts a hit on him being cowl thus).

This reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from Firefly:

The amount of joy you have brought me with that quote is immense.

no, no, that's the lord of the dark sidhe...

In due time Ms Duck.

I think the power from belief is much smaller then the power from sacrifice; I haven't noticed superman or darth vader kicking down any doors in the DF lately. well, outside of my fan fic.  ;)

Well duh, Harry hasn't lost his legs and been burned yet :P.

Fascinating stuff.

Not sure about most of the theories but the tidbits that you dug up to support the theories include some very interesting stuff.

IMO, Merlin had help from a higher power when he warded Demonreach so that could easily explain Odin's relationship to the Well (he taught Merlin how to build the wards or he helped him to do so).

I still think Mother Winter was the enforcer who put most of big bads in there (I suspect the naagloshii was Merlin, maybe some of the weaker ones as well).

I think you could make a pretty good argument that Mother Winter was behind the construction of Demonreach (if she's Nyx)  since she used to have a home in Tartarus.  It might, also, be the reason Harry needs to go to Hades, since Tartarus is Hades' basement.

I have a topic on here that MW was responsible for all the prisoners in Demonreach, more and more I like the idea that she is responsible for Merlin making it and her jailing them there for a reason.

I'm oing to blame my missing this on the fact I haven't read SF since MU freshmen year of college, but still as an English major whose two favorite poets were yeats and Frost sad I missed this.

Mac isnt a god, by WOJ. Mab is very likely the Jotun queen of winter, who Odin promised to wed then stole the mead of immortaltiy from.

He could still be Heimdal and not be a god, maybe someone stole all his mojo on Halloween but he somehow still retains the perk of not aging. Thus if as you propose the Aesir once watched the gate he knows the walker, because he was once "The Gatekeeper", and he is also out, because he lost all his powers and thus is just a mortal. Don't get me wrong, this is a massive WAG, but one I enjoy.

Also is this the WoJ in question?

Could MacAnally possibly be a son of Dionysus?
He's not a Greek god nor a scion of the gods, I'll tell you that much, but we will probably won't get to see much about MacAnally until the big trilogy at the end.

If so he could still be a Norse god.
