Cinder Spires Books / Casting
« on: October 03, 2021, 05:13:37 AM »
I am revisiting Aeronaut’s Windlass again, via audible.
Now I am generally a believer in a generic constructs when imagining a novel character but on my maybe fifth listen (2 reads, 5 listens) I have all of a sudden conflated Ferus with Jim Broadbent, most probably influenced by his Slughorn portrayal combined with Eaun Morton’s performance.

I normally like to think of Dresden and Grimm as dark, defined and distinguished but not a replica of a known actor, but now in my brain Ferus is Jim Broadbent.

Anyone else got any casting suggestions?

The Bar / Re: Karen Murphy, kind of a jerk

In the early books when she keeps saying “People I’m sworn to protect”, my mind spits out the ‘P’s in a combo of Yosemite Sam grumbling and Sylvester the Cat saying Suffering Succotash.

My internal voice is unconsciously mocking early Karrin - so I agree with you.

DF Spoilers / Re: What is your favorite part and why?

I love the Battle of the Deeps. The cumulation of the best whodunnit in the series, an excellent magical duel then descending into chaos - with a sneaky back up plan and a emotional sacrifice.

One of my top three novels and I love the finale.

DF Spoilers / Margaret and The Circle
« on: February 28, 2020, 07:07:28 PM »
Just listening to Blood Rotes again. Thomas discussing how his mother was on the run after being involved in some bad business. Harry and Thomas have a brief chat of who?!, courts, council...

What’s the chance it was The Circle?! Would tie in with the competent, connected witch dropping out of magical life because these people are scary.

Also probably more important - are we accepting The Circle and The Black Council as the same thing?? Or is the Black Council the ‘wizard’ arm of The Circle.
