Please for the love of all that is holy, can someone answer this real quick:

How do you figure the costs of having Evocation, Thaumaturgy, and Sponsored Magic (Soulfire), and if it's possible to break down how Sponsored Magic effects the cost of one or the other and then both? And if you can break it down in Captain Dummy terms, I'd be greatly appreciative.   :-\

DF Comic Books / Re: Style of Comics You Read

BOOM! has been putting out some choice H.P. Lovecraft books for a while now. Phenomenal work. Image also has a Lovecraft book, something like the Adventures of Lovecraft, I think. I'm lagging behind trying to find the issues.

I'm not a big Marvel guy, but I'll read the Ultimate lines (Spider-Man, the Ultimates, Fantastic Four) when I have a few bucks for a TPB. You ask me, Marvel peaked when they did Origins. I do have a guilty pleasure thanks to Marvel: Darkhawk.

MAXX was a favorite of mine that I still go back and read... except for my signed limited edition of Issue #1    ;D

Fathom was spectacular. I'd love to see a film for that. And anything by Gaiman. What was it... 1402, or something like that. I need to go back and re-read it.

And of course, I have to mention my faves: Batman, Green Lantern, Flash. I am very much a DC guy.

... we lost Dresden and got handed Sanctuary. No offense to any fans that are out there, but that seems an entirely unfair exchange IMO  ???

I'll post my obligatory follow up elsewhere....

It looks like my table is going to have two full-time resident sorcerers - I know, a slight step down, but they are planning on building up to Wizard status in game play. They play off each other marvelously: one's evocation spec'ed and the other uses Thaum. They're a pretty damn effective team.

What gives my table grief is the were-hyena.    :-\

....Or you use the skip a scene rules to replicate the time it takes your character to shop around for a better price or to pull money out of accounts or whatever.

Basically, you don't know how expensive a spell is going to be until after the caster decides to bring resources into it.  Until then, you just assume that the monetary expense is not noteworthy.

That was the other thing I was trying to remember! Thanks for saving my from digging through the pages myself...

Sure, it sounds fair. But the rules in the book kinda already take that into consideration. For instance, how long it takes to get all the materials, et al.

If resources are strained in your game, I'd say go for it. Though it probably could be better reflected with a few Aspects, compelling "Perpetually Broke", forcing a character to spend a Fate point to avoid coming up with the funds....

My mind is rambling faster than my fingers can type....

Monday can't get here quick enough. This next session is a bit less violent, but a whole lot more info searching. I'll post next game no later than Tuesday.

"The Gang's All Here" could be invoked saying that one of the group is in trouble. For my guys, "It Never Rains is Dhahran" is great because it's essentially like 'it never rains, it pours'. I invoked it twice in the first session, as a fair warning that things were going to get more than a little messy.

We took the group aspect on the example of 'the gang's all here'. Sure the book doesn't come out and say "use this rule for Group Aspects", but during character creation, if you tie two character's together through "Guest Starring", then you are essentially bringing a Group Aspect to bear right there, albeit only between two characters.

It's not a far leap from there to the concept of a fully "group" Aspect.

I don't think the word 'simple' can be used in reference to orchestrating the Third World War....

DFRPG / Re: How's this for a city concept?

Conceptually, it rocks. The city's Aspects would change just as much as a character might endure. In a way, the Freedom Ship becomes the "Tenth Character", referencing if I may Firefly/Serenity. The fact that upkeep would be a serious work effort shouldn't dissuade most gamers that I know.

Plus there are so many useful story lines and possibilities, such as previously mentioned Accorded Grounds, international law and maintaining order in a city with myriad cultures living, and not just visiting. Just because we do something here as law, means nothing to the Japanese when it comes to enforcing their own laws, or vise versa. And I'm only scratching the plot surfaces. Some one bring in a Brillo pad and let's see what we can scrape up!

I want to play this game now.   ;D

The NN is a fluid thing reaching into the real world fairly mercurially. IIRC the points where the NN touches the real world can and sometimes do change. So I don't see the ship being in movement causing many issues...
