I hope your book does well! My preference is for face to face games in the real world, such that it is. I play a bit on-line, but it's difficult to find the things I'm looking for. I tried the Dresden Files discord but that was a dud. I haven't tried the Fate discord, but every time I mention Dresden Files to anyone on line, the original game is ruled out immediately as 'too complicated' and Accelerated is pushed, and I already think the original is too simple.

Yeah, it's a shame. I love a lot of older games and I've given up mentioning them because whenever I do, the other person immediately suggests playing a newer game of the same genre, and I have a lot of issues with newer game design. I've also just wanted to have a stable long term group that would just keep going with a single game, maybe taking a break from time to time switching to an alternate game, but always back to the other. Continuity has always been super important to me in rpgs.

Right now I'm running a game in Dublin town, Ireland proper. The biggest challenge so far has been doing the voices, because my Irish accent is just... oof. Tragic stuff.

Have you ever considered picking up instructional audio tracks for the accents? I love doing voices and there are a lot of resources out there for actors to help with that sort of thing. I was watching an amazing video by this one actress who switched between all of the accent regions of the various isles. It was awesome!

Treat the entire travel-corridor as a "city" for city-creation purposes.  PC's can have any sort of background from anywhere along the corridor (including each end) or any good reason to come there.

Sounds neat! Or maybe you could do a 'City' sheet for sections of the overall area, like breaking it down into quarters or something, depending how big it is?

Most of my DFRPG games have been PbPs.  I've a few live games while I was learning the game, way, way back in 2010 or something.

A bunch of the games were high refresh but I had at least one 'feet in the water' game and it was a lot of fun.  I played a scottish hunter who got pulled into the Nevernever when he fell asleep in a fairy circle or something (I think...it was a long time ago).

Like many PbPs I've played, they tend to stall out.

I'm currently one of the ones playing in Enduring the Apocalypse.  What would you like to know?

How quickly do you feel the game moves you through experience levels? My preference is for lower level play and to remain there a lot longer than most. I know that's up to the GM but I'm just curious what your experiences have been? I like the Scottish hunter concept. I could see that being fun to play. Yeah, pbp games do seem to fizzle out quickly.

We just made characters last night.  It's a 2 person game...1 is a Native American Tempest wizard, the other is a clued-in son of a Mafia Don.  Looking forward to it!

What's a Tempest Wizard?

I tend to enjoy very granular games. I keep pretty extensive notes so long character records don't bother me, but I do see how they could become encumbering after a while. I haven't played pbp in a very long time. I like the Aspect system in the game and was particularly impressed with the city creation method. Just basic enough to be able to work through it in a relatively short time, but specific enough to build a good framework off of to expand on in the future. Both systems combined, I thought make rpgs more like film in how they develop the character of locations. I always felt that was important.

That’s a really long running game! I had read that the game didn’t handle high power very well, but it’s good to hear that it wasn’t a problem for you. It sounds like it was a bit like a lot of Vampire: The Masquerade games in that it was more about the powers that control everything than your typical lower level character groups.
I’ve seen a lot of player characters that are more antagonist than protagonist, sadly.
Is your general play preference for higher power games? I’ve never gotten to play DFRPG so I don’t have any feel for the Refresh system and what it allows at the various levels.

Hey, Anyone out there feel like sharing what your current game is like? Maybe a little back and forth Q&A? I'd be interested to hear.

That's a shame. I've seen some interesting Dresden Files games on Obsidian Portal, but that's about it. Oh, well.

DFRPG / Original Dresden RPG vs. Accelerated

Hello,
Is anyone still currently active on this site?

Is anyone here still playing Original Dresden Files?

I was wondering for those with experience in both, what are the differences between the original Dresden Files rpg and Dresden Files Accelerated? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on this.

Thanks!

DFRPG / Questions on Aspects & Locations
« on: November 04, 2020, 04:24:44 AM »
I’m new to Fate and was wondering if anyone could please help me out with answering some questions about Aspects? I’ve read the book and I get how they work when it comes to the player character sheet well enough, I think, but I have a little trouble with the changing contexts as they apply to Faces & Locations.

1.   It seems that the books indicate that the very best Aspects should easily apply in both a positive and negative way when it comes to the character. Does this also hold true for all other applications of Aspects? I mean, Troubles are specifically marked as that, so I get that those are just supposed to be negative, But this works the same for Locations also?

2.   If it does work the same for Locations, could you provide some examples and maybe a little explanation for ones that might work well and how they might be used?

3.   What if the Location is just supposed to be a good place for your character, like their apartment? I know bad things can still happen there, but when you choose an Aspect for a Location, is that just describing the Location itself, or the Face’s relationship TO that Location?

4.   Is the Face’s Concept it’s ‘High Concept Aspect’, or should it be a Concept that specifically includes its relationship to the Location it’s associated with? Can you provide some examples?

5.   The Idea is just a brief physical description of the Location? I know this overlaps with the Aspect for the Location, but I’m not quite clear on the distinction between the two?

6.   Can you please elaborate on how a Face relates to the Themes and Threats of a Location? If you had a Theme like, “This city is rotting!”, I understand you generally tie the Face to that Theme somehow, but Themes like this seem so large that it can be contributed to a whole bunch of factors rather than just the villain. Am I missing something here?

DFRPG / Re: Questions about Beast-Change & skills
« on: October 30, 2020, 05:33:43 AM »
Ah, ok. Thanks! Oh, I do have another question though. I was reading about Human Form. You need at least 2 points of refresh from powers you can't use while in this form for it to reduce the refresh by 1, but something like Beast-Change qualify as one of the Human Form requirements because it seems redundant? I mean, if you're in Human form, then by definition, your Beast Form has to be shut off, right? I just didn't know if that power didn't count because it works that way anyway?
