I just read the sneak peek. It is published through the Penguin books web site, so that leads me to believe it's legit.

What strikes me as odd is the use of hyphens then spaces within words. That doesn't seem like anything Jim would do, but it may just be a weirdness involved in the HTML layout.

FWIW, Scalzi's "Old Man's War" has been in development for over a decade. Hollywood has a habit of putting books into development for any number of reasons, and never bringing a TV show to light.

I would enjoy seeing a series based on the Red Court War, particularly if it's done by one of the streaming services. I won't hold my breath waiting for it.

It's possible (I hope) that the comments about his last two books suffering from the "Author's too big to edit" problem convinced the publisher to take a hard look at the manuscript and tell him that multiple changes/cuts are needed. It's also possible that his publisher just has so much in the pipeline that next January is the first open slot they had.

When Harry said/thought that he had no idea of how many warriors winter had ( See section of ???? - I can't think of which book - where mother winter takes him to the outer gates and he sees just how many warriors winter has). He thought he'd called up all of them, but he probably didn't get more than a few percent of the available warriors.

Do I remember reading that Jim had another case of COVID? If so, that could explain the delay. Long COVID is a bear to deal with (bear being spelled so it rhymes with witch). It's also possible that he's just gotten distracted again.

In any case I too wish he'd finish this book and move on to complete the series. I'm getting old and want to find out what happens in the BAT. If it takes him another 20 years to finish I don't think I'll be around for the ending.

I just preordered Heroic Hearts edited by Jim and Kerrie Hughes. It has a short story by Jim called "Little Things" which is about Toot-toot. It's currently scheduled to ship on May 3rd.

It's been almost 11 months since Peace Talks was released, which means it's been over a year since Jim was actively working on a new book (battle ground was originally part of PT)

I for one would like to know how he's doing on the book after "The Aeronaught's Windlass" and if he's even started on sketching out the next DF book
