Author Craft / Re: American Gods - Agrammatic question

There's also the formatting to take into consideration; some formats change stuff when you import it.

No, none of us have EVER gotten excited about something and had that happen. ;)

Seriously, it's something that still worries me. I mean, Jim's got about ten books left in this series, which means there are a lot of ideas in his head that haven't reached paper or computer yet. And even the most well-meaning fanfic writer can get overwhelmed with "But *I* had that idea! He must've gotten it when I posted it online!" sometimes (we've heard horror stories). And the ones who have that moment of convergence but never act on it will likely be bothered by it for the rest of their lives. Jim's a fan himself, so he really would wish that nobody ever feel like that.

So, yeah, fanfic's okay around here... but out of respect to those awkwardnesses, it might be better to not post it openly, to say that it's there and available, and DM/email it to those interested. That way, everyone who wants to can read it, and there aren't any of those aforementioned possible booby traps. NB: This is NOT a directive pointed at anyone in any way whatsoever. It's just a possible route, that's all.

Ugh I want TT back.  IP is always fun to get into.

Never gonna happen. Not unless Jim cuts all ties with the boards, since the decision was made based on Jim's own wishes.

If I walk into a store that sells AD&D 3rd edition source books but refuses to let me open the book to read any of it before purchase, it may be the owner house and his rules, but I still plan to sound off and give the owner my advice.

While I fully endorse the man's right to make the decision.   I don't really agree with the decision itself and I do recognize that while my money is where my mouth is that this doesn't mean a much as my site's not fully up and running yet and I'm not nearly as successful as the man himself.

These are big decisions and I don't mean or intend to make light of them.  But when you're wrong you're wrong and still very much free to do whatever it is you like.

The Deposed King

These were all discussed in depth before, during and after the decision-making, so I'm absolutely certain he's aware of counter-opinions and took them fully into account. What it comes down to is this: he did make an informed decision, and that's pretty much the way it's going to stand until he gets different data and the body of case law moves in another direction. Not dismissing your thoughts, mind you, just saying that he's not only heard them (among many others) but has also been known to voice similar ones himself before, yet here we are.

One small tip: Bluntly declaring those who disagree to be "wrong" is generally not considered a good way to get them to change their minds. ;)

So... guys? We still haven't really answered the question. If fanfiction is allowed - which I think we've established that it is - I'd assume that alexcomp is free to post his screenplay, right? I, for one, would really like to see it. :D

Fire away! I'd suggest the I Made An Art subforum.

His house, his rules. He'll go as far as he likes.

Not sure how I would distribute it without breaking copyright laws and encouraging piracy. :P

Besides, I don't own the e-books, only the hardcovers.

Solution: just post a list online of PoV by chapter.

On switching perspectives:

You know what I would LOVE to see?

e-books being used to somewhat full potential.

Since we're talking about Codex Alera, why do I have to read the chapters sequentially? I like Amara's chapters in FLF.  Why can't I just read all of her chapters, right in a row?

It would be child's play, technologically.

edit: This would be utterly amazing in ASoIaF, as well.

Sounds like a fan project. *snaps fingers* Hop to it! ;)

Why would you want this specially off-limits to guests?

im 100% sure all cats are plotting to kill us at all times, and everything they do is designed to further that goal

Incorrect. That would leave them with no servitor subcreatures.

You. Jim. Kevin. Colleen. One picture. IT IS YOUR DESTINY.

(Except that Colleen wasn't aware that she was moderating the panel. ;D )

The Bar / Re: Regarding the chatroom

Wouldn't even be difficult. Using a web applet like KiwiIRC and a key-protected IRC channel, the chat could be up and running in 10 minutes.

It still wouldn't supersede the fact that Fred's got too much on his plate right now even to oversee the technical side of that as well, and the mods are stretched thin as it is.

Anyone going to this one who gets to meet the Jim-wrangling Pam would be well advised to hug her to within an inch of her life. She's beyond awesomesauce.

Nowhere near as big as D*C.

Peculiar. Can you try a different browser, maybe? Or is that even a possibility on your phone?
