Author Craft / Scalzi/Wheaton Fanfic Contest For Charity
« on: June 03, 2010, 03:41:17 PM »
I posted this elsewhere, but thought this thread would be more appropriate, for people who are interested in actually writing stuff. The specifics of the contest are here: http://whatever.scalzi.com/2010/05/30/fanfic-contest/

Winner gets paid 10-cents a word, and has their story included in an anthology being sold to benefit The Lupus Foundation.

I've seen the same happen.  A simple book club doesn't engender the sense of loyalty and belonging that a community does.  Basically a desert until the new book comes out, with a flurry of activity for a month or two afterwards, then back to being a desert save for the odd recurring arguement about the Death Star fighting the Enterprise.

Some of that is already gravitating toward a Mac's Pub page on Facebook.

Author Craft and Media Favorites I like, because I write as well as read and watch movies. I like some of the Games. Pub topics related to food and potent potables usually got my attention, as well as examples of creativity by members in things like art, jewelry, and poetry.

Should be fun. The friend I'm going with got her yellow card in the mail yesterday, so we're both all paid in full and ready to go.  :)

This just seals the deal. I will be at Dragon*Con for sure. Whether it be with my Doctor Who friends or my LARP group I don't know yet but I WILL be there!

Get you ticket now, before the price goes up.  :)

Oh, man.  Make sure no one warns the Westin Peachtree we're coming.

(That's where we're staying, too.)

:D ;D
If y'all see a good-looking guy wandering around the Westin with a Dragon Con badge that says "Yeratel" on it, that's me.  :)

Bought my Dragon Con ticket today. They've opened up some additional hotels for the overflow this week, so we'll hopefully have confirmed reservations tomorrow.  :)

*Got reservations at the Westin Peachtree Plaza, about 4 blocks from Dragon Con.*

I like Neil Gaiman, but I also appreciate brevity, so Ian Rankin works for me, too.

Could be worse.

It is said that there is an edition of L. Sprague de Camp's Conan-type fantasy novel Rogue Queen the spine of which reads:

ROUGE QUEEN                            CAMP

I can see that being a bit misleading.

Sounds refreshingly honest, to me.  ;D

It already happened!  Quick, painless, and near-invisible.  Bravo to Fred and the host!

I noticed the change in the site icon in Explorer yesterday after it happened.

Thanks to Facebook, I've been able to get back together with some of the members of my old writers group. We're all OLD old writers, now, but a few people expressed an interest in Dragon Con, so we may see if we can put together a group road trip and split expenses.

About a 2 hour drive. Not impossible, but I really have no interest in the con other than to see them.
Yeah, same way I feel about DragonCon in Atlanta, which is about 7 hours away.

Progress! The link leads to NOTHING now. Apparently they've taken down last year's info.

No, the link still works, but still shows 2009 info.  How far is Tucson from Phoenix?
