DF Spoilers / Re: Murphy Family Reunion
« on: July 22, 2021, 05:11:36 AM »
I'd enjoy Hendricks and Murphy buddy cop as well.

I'd be disappointed if she never appears again in Dresden Files.

I do think her becoming Einherjaar was the natural development of her character. She is a firm Catholic, Uriel and Vadderung are friends, but I also feel like its a missed opportunity for one of Uriels crucial conversations that are good for the soul, for her and her Dad not to see each other again after her death.

In many ways they would be in the same circumstances died but not quite moving on to what's next while performing a duty.

Seems to fit to me.

Murphy and Hendricks could be a funny short story for some anthology.. mismatched teams or the like.

We are pretty much told she was RAISED Catholic, not much sign of any faith afterwards that I can recall.  No signs of being observant.

Do we really know she did not get to talk to her Dad? Maybe Uriel offered her the job with Vadderung and she took it? Mr. Sunshine is big on free choice. Maybe she thinks she can be more effective against the bad guys in that role. Do we have anything beyond Gard's word that she IS Einherjaren? Not saying she'd lie, but Gard could be mistaken.

DF Spoilers / Re: Twisty Fae Logic; Molly Versus Lara
« on: July 22, 2021, 04:56:15 AM »
Our royal families have succession rules - why can't the Whamps? If it had been Elizabeth that died, Phillip would not become King of England, Charles would. Plus, the position of  Head of House Raith is likely the one who can take it and hold it more than merely blood. Same for House Raith running the White court. Whatever House could hold it has it. Question is, though - if Harry suddenly finds himself a widower - does Mab marry him off to another Whamp? I am assuming that would come before the almost-infertile Lara has a child. But any would be coups... Harry is under order of the Winter Queen, doing his assigned duties. Attacking him unprovoked might be seen at attacking Winter.

Allying with the White Court per Mab's wishes will likely mean NO TAMPERING WITH THEIR INTERNALS without Mab's explicit permission, Molly. the actions of the Lady against an ally betrothed to the Knight by order of the Queen may be seen as treason in the Winter Court.

Molly can justify the other women. Elaine was before even Michael knew Harry. You aim at a 40-ish man, you do not freak if he talks to his high school girlfriend once or twice a year when there is no indication they ever kissed since he thought he accidentally burned her to death. Susan? She was still a kid, realizes now she was too young, and, Susan is dead. If Harry does not obsess over her, and he does not appear to, it's OK. Left out Luccio, but that was both while she was occupied as Lady and forced by magic, even if they did not know at the time.  Murphy? Long time friend, Molly at the time was unavailable, being Winter Lady, and she is also dead. (being Harry's gf is a hazard to your health).

If she was not the Lady, and Harry not the Knight... she might make a move. I don't think she would just stand back. Leads to another question - I assume Winter cannot marry a mortal - but the Knight is not really Winter, he is their liaison.. maybe he would have been allowed a wife? But I think she has to lose the mantle before she and Harry could truly be together. (pact sealing sex a la Mab not included)

Jim specifically said these deals were made and Vadderung hangs out with Uriel. A deal is quite possible.

"I want to subcontract one of your people."
"Who?"
"Karrin Murphy. Battle of the Bean."
"I'm aware. "
"Well?"
"You picking up the tab today?"
"You had the Kobe steak and a glass of Knappogue Castle 1951!"
"She's worth it. After Ragnarok she comes back?"
"Oh, all right. Baron Marcone's check came in for consulting services today."
"Slainte."

Yuillegan - I was not saying Rashid could not kill Harry - I was saying he could not kill Harry without a weapon that is not shown, or using magic against the Rules - which is what I referred to when I said he (Rashid) walks his own path - beyond the rules. I'm not sure even Eb or Langtry could stand against Rashid.

And I wasn't saying he would kick him out for being linked to the WCV as a BAD thing, but cutting him loose he may have to get allies like the WCV and being Winter Knight he brings the WCV closer to Winter. Not driving him away because you are against him - but putting him in the position where he becomes a liaison between the other two signatories. A job he likely does not take if he is still Council, and a regional commander of the Wardens. He has bigger jobs to do.

DF Spoilers / Re: Has Eb ever messed with Harry's mind?
« on: July 17, 2021, 08:30:43 AM »
If he had, it might have been removed... remember, Mab messed with Harry's head ... and Michael laid hands on and asked him to be healed... and Mab's blocks were gone.  Michael did not specify what to remove... possibly all blocks were taken out.

If you have the Fae included, why not Lea (protecting the Godson, a good bet), or maybe even Mab.  Flowing robes could hide the women, though Mab and Lea are taller than Eb anyway, but Herne, Rashid, and Vadderung should stand out - they were in a group, and are all 7 feet or better. And River would be obvious - and he does not project power, he is more a melee tank.  rule him out.  I would not doubt the Gatekeeper can light them up. I am not always 100% sure he's human. Can a scion join up?

I don't know about the Gruff. That draws Summer in. Herne is Wyldfae. He does not commit Mab. Lea has an obligation to Harry's mother. That might mean she does not commit Winter.

Carlos seems to have figured out what is going on... could he be in?

I think the Archive is likely standing neutral. But..... she has the firepower.

Kincaid is a merc, but he's shown no magic. No one was up there with a battle rifle.

Elaine is skilled, and a better touch than Harry - but does she have that kind of firepower, even if she wanted to? These seem heavy hitters, with Harry as low end.  I would not be surprised if the WC knows Elaine survived. they'd likely check the site of the fire, and lacking remains...  And the higher ups may have an idea of her power level.

I do not see it so unlikely that Eb might have looked in on Harry when he was with Justin. He's not just a wizard, he's his grandfather. He'd likely have taken the measure of Elaine as well. I also think he has to know who Thomas is. He may not know Harry and Thomas know all that, but he should at least suspect they know their real relationship.  So the Seniors may know about Elaine, they just haven't leaked out anything if she keeps her head down.  Sending Carlos to check her out tells her they know she's a wizard, and maybe they test Carlos' perceptions if he can see how strong she is?

I tend to agree that Rashid likely did not vote, he was likely at the Gates. Didn't Chandler once say the only wizard he saw less frequently that Rashid was Harry? Merlin likely held his proxy by rule.  But...... more than any other wizard except Harry, he seems to walk his own path. He even said at least once it would be merciful to kill Harry. Never seen a weapon, and no indication he could take on the Winter Knight - Jim slipped and used numbers there - Harry is quite a bit stronger than any normal man, at least in this world. He can call that mother-lifts-car-off-child adrenaline in a six foot nine male body. have to assume he was planning on using magic, against the Rules.  Could he see an advantage in Harry being cut loose? Maybe seen Mab's plan to marry Harry off - bringing the WCV closer to being allies.  And maybe thus also adding Winter to the WCV if the Blacks kick up a fuss. Are all the Vampire Courts signatories?

Of course, allies are two groups with a common enemy - could even the Denarians kick in against Outsiders? The Denarians may want to possess and souls... can't do that if the Outsiders have them. Hey, look, Stalin was one of the Allies....

Martha Liberty - is there a senior council member we have seen less of? If she has comms she may have recon, and seen/reported Harry.

Thanks for the info. Well, to make his shipments last year, he had to finish the books buy no later than early summer, more likely spring. When he was writing Alera, he wrote them all in consecutive years, and 5 of the 6 years he also wrote a Dresden, according to a spreadsheet someone posted here. So I will go on hoping, given a year and a half between the end of Battle Ground and the end of 2021, that he will finish (but not distribute) Olympian this year, and maybe the next Dresden in 2022, with a publishing schedule of 2022 - Olympian hardcover, 2023 -  Olympian paper, Dresden hard, and 2024 -  Dresden paper. Hopefully he will get a rhythm that gets us a book in at least one of the two series each year. He used to get one of each, but the plots are more intricate now, and the books longer.  Plus he does the cons, and every so often raises hope of TV adaptations that fall thru

DF Spoilers / Re: Who gets a Banner? (and why?)
« on: June 14, 2021, 07:03:45 AM »
I'd go along with that except for one thing, Marcone had to be pressed hard to aid those harmed by the battle.  He also was willing to go along with a war on humanity.  It wasn't till Harry shamed him and pointed out he'd make a fortune in contracts did he go along with it.

But helping the refugees is a positive. Helping. Marcone's code is simply not being a negative. It's not his fault they were threatened, so not his problem.

DF Spoilers / Re: Odin's plan wag
« on: May 24, 2021, 02:55:14 AM »
Odin plans on removing his patch, and replacing it with the Eye of Balor, and kill Fenrir (Drakul imo)...

Isn't fenrir the Fenris Wolf, and held prisoner by the roots of rocks, the beards of women, the spit of birds, etc? The child of Loki?

He doesn't need the eye for that...hes already powerful enough.

If Fenrir is the Fenris Wolf - he doesn't have the power. The Wolf kills Odin at Ragnarok.

DF Spoilers / Re: Harry and NAMES
« on: May 24, 2021, 02:50:46 AM »
Uriel would disagree...  He didn't care for Harry's Nickname

Uriel saw that one as an insult. -el is from God. Note the angels names end in it? Gabriel, Michael, Raphiel, Uriel...  Harry left God out.  Not good with an angel

(note Siegel and Shuster stole from this tradition with Kal-El - aka Superman)

I'd point out Uriel is OK with Mr. Sunshine. he apparently even relayed it to Odin, at one of their lunches, because Odin mentioned it as the pre-battle meeting at Marcone's castle.

I thought Toot got bigger with responsibilities and followers....the more he does, the more power he seems to absorb.

Lash... I think it was because she basically lived with Harry a couple of years. Maybe... fell in love?  Part of why she sacrificed herself? Is Bonea Lasciel's child in a sense.. or Lash's? that one time, after the Deeps... when we thought she was gone gone. And Harry played guitar... and she said "Anything I can, my host..." or the like... I wonder - could she be just heavily damaged, in a damaged part of Harry's brain? Vanilla humans do not heal brain tissue... or spinal tissue in most cases, but it was said Harry might have been able to heal his back, though it could take years.... but I think there was a WOJ she is gone.

Can't see October 2021. Be lucky to have a first draft done. He had bled chapters to his beta testers here for months before submitting a draft to the publisher for Peace Talks, and we have not seen any yet, or even a progress report. And then from first chapters, thru revisions,  to actual printing, maybe a year? Maybe hardcover in 2022, paper in 2023? if we are lucky?

DF Spoilers / Re: A new threat to Dresden (later) WAG
« on: May 14, 2021, 09:14:20 AM »
Jim talks and talks and talks.  But he doesn't say anything.  Unless something changes and it becomes the Carlos Files the conclusion is forgone.  But I'd love to see that fight.

Who says he survives the BAT? Authors have killed off title characters before. Examples?
(click to show/hide)

Speed and grace work nicely, but monster power can be effective too - Game of Thrones....  trial by combat ... guy was beating the Mountain, even if not for the envenomed weapon, made one mistake.. Mountain crushed his skull.

Could Carlos take Harry? By ambush, sure. Kincaid could. Maybe if he could set the field. Straight up? Money's on Harry. Lions have killed elephants. Bigger they are the harder they fall? Sure. Doesn't say they fall anywhere near as often.  Big power. And for those who say Harry took Fix by using iron.... yes, he did - but maybe he felt if he had to he could take him - but maybe  Fix would not survive that way.

Really, we are due. To ship Battle Ground in Sept, Jim likely finished it in the spring.. Maybe earlier. So close to a year at least.  Even a note "First draft of the first 10 chapters is done" (first book had 69 chapters)
