DF Spoilers / Re: Who is the most evil character in the Dresdenverse?
« on: December 21, 2017, 11:52:29 AM »
However, SG did show us something. Michael did say to Nick that this is perhaps his last chance for redemption. I am afraid the next time Nick show up, Heaven might not send a KoTC to handle him. An agent, most probably Harry, will be facing him and should Nick fail there'll be no more mercy for him. Heaven is merciful, but as we saw in book 12, when "Judgement Almighty" comes calling, Heaven is equally ruthless and absolutely thorough.
I like your thinking:
TWG does not give the right of judgement to Knights. But He can send others in their stead, which is the judgement in and of itself.

Though in that case, Harry's been sent to foil Nic several times already... what would make a new time different?

The corruption that we have seen within the wardens and WC has been isolated and individualistic and not systemic.
We have DuMorne, status unknown-posssibly retired warden, trying to create thug squad and doing black magic.
We have Morgan, hardcore and jaded but still toeing the line.
We have Peabody, a mind-corrupting mole.
We have Luccio, loyal but vulnerable in new body.
Finally, there is Cristos, suspect but proven.
But the reason Cristos 'had to be' chosen was because of systemic decay in the WC involving power blocks colliding between West and the rest.

:j I said, essentially, the same thing in a different thread a few weeks ago. While a dramatic thing to say, someone who would do something like that is the opposite of what civilisations need.
Of course, there was a whole book about convincing Harry that maybe he was out of line there. Like, WAY out of line.

And I think he learned from it and became a better person.

DF Spoilers / Re: the end trilogy of the books - who will it be ?
« on: November 25, 2017, 08:06:27 PM »
Hells Bells ==> Apocalypse, Denarians and other Fallen.
Stars and Tones ==> Ragnarok, giants, Fomor, etc.
Empty Night ==> the end of reality, the outsiders.

Why settle for one if you can have three apocalypses in one trilogy? Bible, Edda and Lovecraft.

But the bibilical apocalypse, at least, could not fit just one book. It seems likely that the last of the trilogy will have the other two 'imminent destruction' events still in the background at least. Though it's always possible that for example the Denarians are turned from 'go for biblical apocalypse to bring our powers up to eleven to slaughter the Outsiders' to 'we failed at that, but better Harry's victory than Empty Night'.

Remember, Butcher wrote her. She’s not a real person. His depictions of women aren’t the best. I enjoy the story, but his female characters didn’t really ring true to me. He’s certainly mot alone in that, though. On the other side, Anne Rice’s male characters often came off as as middle aged women, especially in her later books. The funny thing about her female characters is they mostly were uninteresting or tried to act very male. There were a few good ones, though.

Also, failed past relationships don’t compare to suicide guy who lives on a haunted island, is under the control of an amoral faerie queen and is at the center of an inter dimensional war. Dresden’s life is terrible.
Plus he has killed all his girlfriends, or at least tried to.

Granted Luccio wasn't his girlfriend yet when he did it, and there were extenuating circumstances both there and with Susan, but damn. Would not want to be Murphy!

One wonders if cowl and co-conspirator are the same person, who separate ones?
It is possible, but Cristos has also been fingered as the co-conspirator.

Eternity probably gets pretty boring eventually.

I've long theorized that we'll find out that Justin wasn't really a bad guy.  He may have used rough means to attain his ends.
'rough means' as in baseballs to train shields? Not really a bad guy.

'rough means' as in thralldom? Still a bad guy.

And the mystery co-conspirator of Peabody, maybe.

Sorry Kindler.  I meant Harry's hatred of Marcone.
Marcone leads a more violent version of the Chicago government.

Because Harry's Subconscious is meant to be a bad guy, more or less.
And girls want bad boys, in literary-world. If the ship had to be sunk, Skin Game has some decidedly weird pieces (if instead it's supposed to hang around incomplete, both Cold Case and Skin Game make sense).

See, I don't agree.  I believe that Free-will has power over those who do not have it.  And intimately Uriel does not have it.

Further, Harry DID summon him in Changes.

And summoning circles are just for summoning, so if he is Summonable, than that circle(s) would possible do the trick.
Well... Uriel does have free will. He just only has one Choice.

This, to me, sets him apart from other beings who lack Free Will (like possibly Mab, and certainly nearly everything controlled under Winter Law). Of course Ivy also is partly human, and so locking her in a circle required a whole host of measures to block her Will simply tearing the circle apart... and I rank Uriel more powerful, so it would require a truly imposing effort to even come close to imprisoning him.

In fact, given it took an Archangel to imprison Ivy, who I rank significantly lower on the power totem pole, it wouldn't surprise me if only TWG or the Outer Gods (provided such outsiders exist) could even attempt it - and with TWG, at least, it seems obvious that Falling would have weird interactions with such an attempt.

It's probably not an issue.

The Lady can't because Being Molly is Suffering/ (Plus Jim wanted to sink that ship).
The Queen can, but seriously, Mab has better things to do with her time. She's a busy lady.
The Mother? Please, she's way too Old for that shit.

Wanted to sink that ship? Then why does Harry's own subconscious support it? ;)

I think we've discussed this before, but ...

If you'll recall, the circle in MacFinn's townhouse was actually three in one circles.

One for purely mortal beings.
One for purely spiritual beings.
One for a mix of mortal and spiritual beings.

I'm thinking someone with an iron will COULD contain Uriel in such a circle.

How, though? I don't think Uriel is like Mab or the Erlking in that he has to answer a summons. So he can just glance at the circle, think 'ah no' and appear outside it.

Or he can just use your Name and make you release him.

Oh maybe morty could have done something just imagine the scene Nicodemus trying to recruit him.

And harry is a necromancer as well.
Yes, but Harry isn't good. He's the best we got, but he gets into pretty dark situations. He eventually ends up choosing the less-evil and eventually works back to good, but there's the dark phase too.
