DF Spoilers / Re: Battle Grounds and Chandler
« on: February 10, 2021, 06:40:13 PM »
There have been a couple of different posts on here asking about Chandler and where he ended up during the fight with Drakul.
However, the Dresden Files wiki says he was banished to the Nevernever: " while Chandler was banished to the Nevernever. "
Was there a WoJ that said this, or is this speculation by the writer?

It says this on his character page:

Quote
After a short fight, Drakul drops Chandler through a gate to an unknown location. He is presumed dead, but his status is uncertain.

hadn't Thomas already been feeding on the Valkerie?  I thought there was something about that a while back?

No, he was hooking up with Evanna the svartalf.

I don't think he actually did that. After BR Justine used medications to get herself under control, IIRC.

Yes, she did:

Quote
“What’s going on?” I demanded. “How are you walking around like this?”
“It doesn’t matter right now,” Justine said. “I’m better.”
“You aren’t crazy, are you?” I demanded. “You nearly scratched my eyes out that one time.”
She shook her head with a frustrated little motion. “Medication. It isn’t . . . Look, I’m all right for now. I need you to listen to me.”

I don't know that the new info necessarily precludes her viability. A few hours might be 4, or it might be 72, or even longer.

A few months is quite a bit longer.  Of course, that's never made it into the books, so Jim could change his mind on that too.

I remember woj that she is.

He said she was a "candidate".  He also said they were a few months apart in age, so unless there were multiple starborn events that year, I'd say it's looking like she's not.

Have we ever had confirmation that there can only be one Starborn per generation?  We know Elaine had the potential, but do we know for sure that she couldn't be?

Sounds like there can be multiples:

Quote
“Every couple or three wizard generations,” Ebenezar said, “the stars line up just right, and what amounts to a spotlight plays over the earth for a few hours. Any child born within that light—”
“Is starborn. I get it,” I said. “What does it mean?”

We've never been told what Elaine's birthday is, but I doubt it's also Halloween, so I'd say she's probably not one.

- Lara states that's she never been betrayed by members of her household.   I guess Madeline in Turn Coat doesn't count?

She doesn't count the Raith Deeps thing either, dismissing it as "everyday treachery".

Though the whole spider thing bothered me because he also somehow conjured minds for them, which seemed odd.

Maybe conjuritis includes summoning stuff.  In that case, they already had minds; he just called them here.

  • A voice; that doesn't sound like Ebenezer or Marcone, tells Harry, "Your choices have made you an outlier."  Did Ebenezer say that to Harry in PT?  I read the book so fast I already have to do a slower reread.

Yes, Eb said that:

Quote
“The problem is that trust is getting harder and harder to come by in the White Council,” Ebenezar said. “Your choices have made you an outlier. Suspicion naturally falls upon someone in your position in times of strain.”

Harry mentions Listen. Didn't Listen die in Bombshells?

Nah. He just got beat up a bit by Thomas:

Quote
Listen walked out on his own power, his hands behind his back, one of his eyes swollen halfway shut. He gave me a steady look as he went by and said nothing.
Bastard.

Oh, here's another error:

Quote
“No,” she said. “Because I’m also the one who changed Thomas’s diapers, after his mother escaped our father. Dressed him. Fed him his meals. Taught him to read.”

Butcher, Jim. Peace Talks (Dresden Files) (p. 132). Penguin Publishing Group. Kindle Edition.

Thomas was well out of diapers when Margaret left Lord Raith:

Quote
“God knows,” Thomas said. “All I know is that there was some sort of business between them. It developed into something else. Father was trying to snare her permanently, but she wound up being too strong for him to completely enthrall. She escaped him when I was about five. From what I’ve been able to learn, she met your father the next year when she was on the run.”

Murphy got her P-90 back after losing it in the water apparently.  Though that may have just been her being able to get another one.

That error dates back to Changes.

That has Harry being born around 1974, give or take, Star Wars came out in 1977.. So maybe as a three year old he remembers going to see it with his dad?

I saw it around that age and can remember it (just shy of four), so sure.  It's worth noting that Harry says:

Quote
He took me to see Star Wars movies.

Butcher, Jim. Peace Talks (Dresden Files) (p. 268). Penguin Publishing Group. Kindle Edition.

This implies he also saw The Empire Strikes Back with his father.

Although if Mab were Harry’s grandmother, their entire dynamic would be different.

It would mean he had sex with his grandma.  :o

(*) -- n.b. we really need a new term for these not-novel-length stories starring Murph, because "short" is likely to get your arm broken...

Novella or novelette work.
