from what ive seen yes it could. But it has to pick one or the other for one slot.

my friend's hero is marcone so she is playing a pure mortal stylized from him and its quite an impressive set up. She on average has at least twice usually more like three times as many fate points as everyone else. so she can totally lay the smack down when nessacary.

DFRPG / Re: Focus Items
« on: April 12, 2010, 02:34:27 AM »
The way i understand it is it can do both but it costs more slots.
for example i could have a focus like harry's blasting rod that give a +1 offensive fire control. That focus item takes one slot and gives me a bonus on any roll to control offensive fire magic. Or you could have a focus that gives +1 defensive fire control. That would cost one slot and give you bonus's on controlling fire for defensive purposes. But you could have a focus that gave +1 fire control. That focus would take up two slots because it gives the bonus to both offensive and defensive control.
If that doesnt make any sense just tell me and ill try to explain it a little better.

DFRPG / Re: Alternative Elemetal Systems

i came up with one that was a little tough to do a while back basicly

fire-mostly damage dealing things but also invigoration
ice-mostly heat manipulation in the reverse good for area manuvers.
earth-mostly ground effects but also allows many buff type spells.
wind-largely wind manipulation but also allows things like cellular work.
lightning-Mostly molecular effects dealing with charges(like magnetism and what not.) also allows some types of teleportation deals.
water-mostly water manipulation and healing effects.

I came up with this idea forever ago so if i was gonna put it into a game i would likely need to update it or upgrade it somehow.

On a less joking note thanks for the answer getting that -1 refresh back will probably cheer that player up.

DFRPG / Re: White Council and Focused Practitioners?
« on: April 09, 2010, 12:33:31 AM »
The requirement to joining the white council is being able to preform magic to a certain standard and variety. Largely focused practioners cant join simply because they lack versitility. A powerful focused practioner might have a wizard's constitution or a soulgaze ability though that would be more of a personal preference on wether or not the gm would allow it(i would). And my take on why they cant use refienment is because they are already refiened if you will, again though you might house rules to allow something like that.

Edit enchanted item: I think your basicly right on those accounts and maybe if you specificly only wanted it to affect metal i think that would be a more story line thing than actually costing more, like maybe if someone shoots a stone arrow at you no bonus or something like that.

honestly to me it seems something like that would be house ruled(if it used discipline rolls to extend time) largely because you dont roll to draw up power for magic which would be the shifts you needed to cause the spell to last longer.
I think for a shield type deal i would let it either deflect or block so if the discipline is high enough for one shift of its power you can deflect or if not you have it function as a block. Or something like that. just my two cents

DFRPG / quick sponsored magic question(namely hellfire)
« on: April 08, 2010, 11:50:00 PM »
okay so i have a character who wants to play a wizard with hellfire from the shadow of a denarian(sound familar?  ::) ) But this idea has caused me to come up with three questions.

First So okay in the sponsored magic descripition it say sponsored magic can be combined with any evocation bonus's from specialization for a supercharged effect. So would this be like if the wizard has a +2 to fire evocation power and he casts a blast of fire with hellfire in it he would also get the +1 from hellfire for dealing stress equaling a total of +3 to the power?

Second does having the shadow of a denarian cost refresh(like demonic co-pilot)?

Third does hellfire and other sponsored magic's work automatically or does the character have to draw on them specificly for a spell?

DFRPG / Re: Question about Illusions and Laws of Magic
« on: April 08, 2010, 11:03:07 PM »
what i got from the story is basicly their are two main types of illusions phantasms which change peoples preception of what they see and seemings which make semi realistic images of things(but apparently soulfire makes them perfect real or something along those lines). Harry says something about phantasm's being a grey area of magic but says seemings are perfectly legal.

This is a problem I would be happy to have, it's true.
I think just about every product maker in the world hopes for that problem. lol  ;D I'm actually kinda worried though. I have school monday and if it isnt out in the morning before i go to school i'm worried it might be sold out or something by the time i get home.
