DFRPG / Re: Compilation of Focus/Enchanted Items: Post Your Own!

I was particularly proud of this little enchanted item I created for a character in my summer convention games, she's an Occult Cat Burglar so naturally she needed:

Catsuit: This is a sleek black catsuit that has been charged with mystical shadow and silence granting her a +2 bonus to her Stealth, 3 times a session.

Oh my gosh... I love the 'Miami Vice Wardens' idea... Smiley

The more I think on it the more I like it too. I am curious about all these ideas though, are you thinking of a Dresden Files games set somewhere in 80s TV Land, or are you more looking for classic 80s shows that have decent campaign structures to mine for ideas for a modern game? Either way that's pretty cool, but it also got me thinking about Dresden Files Miami Vice in two different directions.

First would be the modern setting of two Wardens in Miami holding the front line during the

The other would be set in 80s era Miami, again with the two Warden's trying to keep order in a chaotic border city, but the tone, color, setting, and threats would be radically different.

Miami Vice could work pretty well for a series focusing on two Warden partners trying to keep order in a lawless environment.

Well if you have the two of them joining up have them make their characters together and let them guest star in each others stories/novels. Then to tie them into the rest of the group who've already made there characters have them guest star in one of previously created player character's stories/novels.

Or if they can't get together for some collaborative creation then just have them come up with their own stories for their two 'guest star' Aspects. But you'll probably want to tie the whole group together with some shared phases.

DFRPG / Re: Rules question both magic and not, How do I Defenestrate?

Couple of ways; a standard Evocation Attack against your player's character and try to force a consequence of "out the window". Or an Evocation Maneuver against 3 shifts or against their Athletics skill if higher than Good to place the Aspect of "through the window" on the character.

As for how to do it without magic it would depend on how you did it to determine the skill you would use, Judo throw= Fists, Over the head hoist and heave= Might, Baseball bat swing or throwing something heavy at them= Weapons. If you want to just move them zones then you could roll your attack skill and use a -1 shift to move an opponent through a zone as some knockback provided the attack could conceivably do that.

In the end though it could also just come down to how you want to color the scene, if you just want to do an attack and damage and describe the character as getting blasted through the window go for it. Until you make it an Aspect it's all just color. I had a Wizard blast a Red Court Vampire on a yacht with a Force Blast attack that ended up doing something like 8 stress, I just described the blast as punching the Vampire right through the side of the boat and out into the sun taking it out. I didn't need to make Aspects because the Vampire was toasted anyway and it was a hell of an attack, so why not throw in some awesome color without worrying about mechanics too hard?

DFRPG / Re: Southern California - Irvine/Orange Game?

Hey for anyone interested in the Dresden Files RPG in the Los Angeles area, I'm going to be running several Dresden Files games the last weekend of May at the Memorial day weekend Strategicon, Gamex 2010. In fact these are going to be the same games that I will be running at Origins for the premier of the books. (Greek Week, Major Problems, Minor Talents, and The Doom of Damocles)

Vulcanisik it may be a bit of a trek from Lake Forest, but I do know a few people from Irvine, Orange County, and even San Diego or further afield who come in for the con, it's a great place to meet gamers in the LA area, and it's chock full of Evil Hat and Dresden fans. Here's the link:

Hi, I'm Morgan. I've got three of the Dresden Events at Gencon. If anyone is interested in some Dresden I'm also planning on keeping my evenings mostly free and will probably be available for some off the books games at the Embassy Suites.

DFRPG / Re: Historical Dresden Settings?

In my just started home game we are playing in 1920s prohibition Chicago. During City Creation we had an interesting discussion about Wizards and technology in that time period. What we decided was that Wizards could and would definitely still hex technology, but it wouldn't be nearly as bad as a Wizard in a modern microelectronics dominated world. We also discussed why pre-WWII tech seems to be more durable to magic and hexing, the reason we came up with was the shift in human belief in science as opposed to magic that got hammered home by the atomic bomb.

So for our 1920s game we've decided that since that major shift in magic vs technology hasn't happened yet, the hexing will only come up when it would make an interesting compel or is an active hexing attempt. Which given the rules is pretty much how it should be anyway, but the lack of computers, cell phones, and other high tech electronics everywhere means that it probably won't be as easy to compel at almost any time.
