All in all I felt this was a disappointing movie. I think the actors did really good jobs with the lines they were given, but the plot was abysmal, full of holes and way too long.
Some examples:
1) If Finn can just take a ship and jump away and come back at will, why not evacuate more people this way? Heck, why not evacuate everyone?
2) Maybe there were people profiteering from outfitting both the rebels and the first order with fighters, but those Dreadnaughts and the freaking super-death-star from the previous movie couldn't possibly have been done without the resources of a multi-planetary government behind them.
I mean sure, you can blame "bad guys" for selling guns and rockets to anyone that pays them money, but if ISIS suddenly had access to a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, and squadrons of state of the art stealth fighters, I'm sorry, but you're gonna have to come up with a better explanation.
Oh, and if the guy who is supplying things has access to both x-wings and tie fighters, why didn't the first order buy the better ships == you know, the ones that have actual shields and can do their own hyperspace jumps?
3) Sorry, but any movie where someone says "shooting is too good for them" in order to explain why someone can still be alive is a weak movie.
And what's with ordering up a formation of ~1000 troopsers just to see the execution? Why are you according "scum" this honor?
And why did Finn feel the need to go fight Phasma? Just run already.
(At least we've seen the end of her. Hopefully).
And why is Huck/Hux or whatever his name is still in charge? He's obviously incompetent (see the other admiral's comment in the first scene on how the fighters should have been launched already), so I kinda bought into the fact that supposedly mastermind Snoke raised him up above his station for "reasons".
But with said mastermind dead and two whiny idiots in charge, why should **anyone** still listen to them? Because Hux's a charismatic leader? Because Kylo can choke you if he doesn't like you and can block a couple blaster bolts? Jedi reflexes didn't stop then from getting slaughtered on Geonosis and didn't help them when Order 66 was given.
Face it, a large part of the reason the Emperor was feared was because he had an empire of resources and bureaucracy behind him. Kylo is barely competent enough to fly a single starship, loses control when anything goes wrong and has the less of an idea of how to run an organization than when I tried to run my own lemonade stand in first grade.
If this is the new "empire", then someone competent better challenge Kylo and Hux very soon. If on the other hand, this is just another group of terrorists, what's to stop any of the more competent admirals from just saying bye and jumping out to buy their own weapons from those dealers and carve out they're own little Duchy somewhere in space?
Not really a plot point, just meh.
You'll notice that every time Kylo does anything remotely independent, Snokes royal ninjas do the "hoo-ha" weapons flash to show how edgy and ninja-y they are and Snoke has to wave them down.
I'm not sure why Snoke thought he needed fiery red ninjas to defend him against anyone, but I'll bet their willingness to flip out and kill things at the drop of a hat must have started getting on his nerves. Remember the Emperor's royal guards? They never flinched in the face of Vader, never needed to prove anything.
As soon as I saw that first red ninja half pull out his blade and act menacing I died a little inside. It was obvious we were going to see them in battle and equally obvious who was going to die.
Literal. Ninja. Redshirts.
