I'd keep writing becuase I write for myself.  If other people like it, great.  If they don't, I don't care.  Besides any second rate hack can get published.  A trip down to your local Borders or B&N will prove this.

A true Geek would stat up Harry for every RPG they know how to play... :D

The '20's are a cool setting, most of my Call of Cthulhu games are based there.  But I'm planning a Dresden inspired game for the Victoriana RPG.  Can't really beat a d6 system for simplicity.  Now all I have to do is round up some players.  I know I can probably rope some people into an email game.

DFRPG / Re: Will the Dresden file RPG have supplements?
« on: February 27, 2007, 10:20:21 PM »
I've been gaming for the past 26 years, and I'm 36 now, and I have come to appreciate companies that try to produce self contained games that need no supplements.  In my opinion, supplements only exist to increase "addiction".  It is true that you are not being forced to buy them, but you inevitably find yourself in a situation where you are either running a game, or being a player, and somebody comes in with the newest supplement and tries to use the info it contains.

That being said, I do like the idea of web updates for the Dresden game.

I'm torn.  I would love to be a Wizard, but I'm also drawn to the supernatural entity type as well...

Author Craft / Re: Write What You Read?

I agree that what you read tends to color what you write.  For me it is a problem simply because I have so many different interests that I normally read about six books at a time.  But I am trying to overcome it and get back into some real writing, not stuff that I would do for school.

I'm Johnnie, 36 yrs old and been writing since I can remember.  I had a few things published back when I was in highshcool but got fed up with unconstructive criticism when I tried college the first time.  Now that I'm back in school, most of the writing I do is class related stuff.  I have an article that I will be writing for an internation magazine within the next few months.

As far as fiction goes, my inspirations are Lovecraft, Lumley, Howard (Solomon Kane rocks!), Dan Brown (though many of my Masonic Brothers would frown on it), and now local-boy Jim Butcher.  I'm thinking of starting a new Dresdenesque project centered on Frankenstein's Monster.

DF Books / Re: Did you discover the books because of the TV Show?
« on: February 27, 2007, 05:10:01 AM »
As I stated in a post on a different topic, I saw the preview then read all 8 books in 3 days (gotta love 12 hour shifts).  I enjoy both the books and the show and find it interesting how the producers of the series use their creative license.  I'm now doing missionary work to spread the Gospel of Dresden.

I bet the rpg might help gain more converts when it is released.
