DFRPG / Re: Question about Dresden based MUX or MUSH's

There's a FATE 3 MU out there that's fully coded, and so far as I know the guy who did it is willing to share.  That said, I refuse to take any responsibility for the quality of interactions you have with him, should you choose to hunt this individual down.  :)  I don't know the guy personally, but I could probably dig up some kind of contact info for you.

I'm planning on providing them with GM Tools, and allowing them to run the game, although major plots may require approval by the staff.

I peeked at the other posts in this thread, but didn't see the answer to this question: are you planning on using the Dresden Files RPG?   Or are you basing it off SotC, FATE, etc?

Yeah, it's going to be a little expensive I suspect, but we're thinking there might be some demand for the product. :>

You know, I've a sneaking hunch you may be right on that score.

looking great so far, love the border work.  One thing that always seems to escape people is the border, games like Wraith used it to great effect *freakin' creepy really* but most games just leave it blank and boring, not sure if this has to do with printing costs or not.  Keep up the good work!

It costs more to print a book with graphics that bleed off the page edge, yes.  :)  The lads at Evil Hat seem bound and determined to put out the highest quality product they can muster.

Out of curiosity, has anybody considered setting such an MU in a small town (population of just a few thousand)?  To my way of thinking, small towns with a high traffic volume have always seemed the ideal for this kind of thing.

  • Easier to build in an MU environment -- in terms of capturing a detailed feel for the whole place, and making it feel more 'real'
  • MU politics tend to be like small towns anyway -- everybody knows everybody else's business, gossip runs rampant, etc.
  • It strips away having to contrive reasons to RP/meet other PCs (see above)
  • In a place with a decent tourist draw you've got enough population flux to allow for the more predatory supernaturals to go unnoticed, if you want them fitted in
  • Ease of navigation -- you can capture the feel of the place, accurately, with fewer rooms. A smaller grid makes for easier navigation, and more publicly active players.

Just some thoughts off the top of my head.

This is why I absolutely loved working with Fred and Rob.  They're easily two of the most professional, ethical people in the RPG industry, and their philosophy on games production reflects that.

Awesome.  Just awesome. :)

I've long held that FATE makes an ideal system for MU's given the co-operative story-focused nature of it.  I'd love to see both these games really fly.

Edit: Now I'm waiting to hear of the small town, Twin Peaks/Northern Exposures, freak-magnet MU set in the Dresdenverse. ;)

I've always thought that the root FATE system would make for a better set of MU mechanics than any other on the market, given FATE's leaning toward co-operative storytelling.  I'd be interested to see where this idea goes.
