Just finished listening to the new podcast -- I was worried when you folks hadn't posted one in so long. Lots of good info in that! I am *SO* getting one of those TDF calenders when they come out!

Whoops, forgot to include details about Jim's future appearances in the show notes.  You can see Jim's schedule on the Calendar (http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php?action=calendar).  Folks in and around St. Louis can attend the final stop on his signing tour TODAY!

Hey!

I'm somewhat of a new member to the site and the forum, but I've been a DF fan since Jan. 30th (my birthday).

I wanted to say that I liked the podcast -- someone I know runs an online radio show that usually lasts for hours, so I'm used to listening for a while. Very brief, got the news across.

You mentioned that the copyright was Fred Hicks and Mr. Butcher himself? I was going to ask why not do some radio plays with the DF characters, but if that's a legal no-no, I can see why not. It's a shame, really, because radio plays would be interesting to listen to.

(I thought "Princeps" was a "k" sound for the "c"? I'm guessing that Mr. Butcher is pulling from Roman history for the Codex Alera, so the term was familiar from my Civ classes, and the letter "c" tended to be pronounced with a hard "k". But! Mr. Butcher may pronounce it another way, and I'll be very quiet now.)

And now that I've rambled, I've got to head to work. Hopefully, I'll remember to check back here...

*laughs*  It takes me about twice as long to record the podcast as the edited podcast ends up being.  Some lines I misspeak or generally have to say over, or I burst out laughing, or whatever. :D  I was terrified that I was running at 25-30 minutes, which is why I kept apologizing for the episode being so long.  When I edited it down and saw that it was only 12 minutes, I felt like something of a moron.

Anyway, thanks for the input!  Over the next episodes, I'll try to find the pace that folks find most agreeable--somewhere between "James Earl Jones" and "Auctioneer." :D

You did an awesome job reading the Backup blurb. You should look into a career of reading audios and I'm pretty spoiled after listening to James Marsters.

BTW as per another podcast, did you ever watch Farscape?  There is an awful lot of times Harry Dresdan reminds me of John Crichton.

Pris does not realize how fantastic she was on this. :)

Despite repeatedly being told so. ;)

She was using me as a sounding board on the recording, and there were very few cuts and no re-recordings suggested.

I used to work in radio (RTVF degree). And by work, I been "intern." But anyways, she very much reminds me of a certain voice talent that was very successful for years (you most likely remember her as the female half of the couple on the country crock "hands" commercials), and that's a high compliment.

How DOES one get started in voiceovers / voice acting, anyway? Friends keep yelling at me that I should do something like that, and I have no idea where or how to begin.

Like anything else, it's often in who you know. And how they see you.

For instance, Pris could do voiceovers at work quite easily....but they don't use her for anything but temp tracks. (Now, that MIGHT be due to cust expectations, and not her bosses. Or union contracts. Or stuff.)

Seriously.

Pris! Awesome job on the podcast! Amazingly well done! YOu have such an uppercrust accent, WTH? I thought you were from Texas!

Uppercrust? She doesn't sound like she's Bostonian.

I was raised in the same city she was, BTW, and people in Europe think I'm Canadian.

Yes, I can buy that,... and I wouldn't say uppercrust sounds Bostonian (to me). Proper enunciation, fully closed words... Canadian does that too. So does British.

Just definitely not what a Midwesterner expects to hear come out of Texas, you know?

Nonono - that would be simply "crusty". *nods sagely*

Oh, lots of people in Dallas sound like that. The Amy Ackers and Hank Hills of Texas are from the farther out subburbs like Garland.

Thanks, guys. <3

I think my accent is "the TV accent southern people unconsciously adopt when they don't want people to know they're from the south."  :D

No, actually none of my friends in school had southern accents, even a friend that lived on a farm.  In my experience, cityfolk are far less likely to pick them up, as Mickey notes.  Alan Tudyk is from Plano, one of our nearer suburbs, and he doesn't have the drawl (though I'm sure he has one in his repertoire).  I grew up in Highland Park (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highland_Park%2C_Texas), so there was no chance of me adopting a drawl.  Also, eight months of speech therapy to get rid of a lisp when I was a kid may have contributed. :D

finally listened in, wonderful of course.

For the old listeners, I had to keep running it backwards to catch the release dates.  I know you've got them elsewhere but it was nice to get in one location!

"Hey Jim, give the industriously Lit' Gnome her own set of audio's, would ya?  before we have to pitch in?"

Oops, did I say that.  OMG--looking for lightening bolts...

"Yeah, Penguin, give the gnome free Alera audios!"

Woah woah who said that?  *innocent look*

Thanks for the feedback, Meg!  I'll definitely slow down for the next episode.

Woo!

Will it be personalized like the last file?

I'm so tempted to use sound bites from that as computer sounds. Curse at me next time you're expecting me to suggest edits...they'd make great error .wavs.

Priscellie,

English is a foreign language for me. Please slow down and take extra care to speak clearly :) I think I lost half of the content in the podcast :(

Best of love from a small European country

Thank you so much for the feedback!  I'm getting more or less unanimous comments that I need to slow down a bit (Mickey doesn't count), so your wish is my command. :D
