Title: Cover Art For the New Novella, "The Law" and News?
Post by: Mira on June 20, 2022, 01:53:50 PM
It just came out.  Hey, no hat!  That's a first, it's hanging from a hat tree, his staff is also leaning against the wall, it looks like Harry is in either in his lab or a library, it might be that he has the luxury of a library now.  However there also seems to be a bottle or two about also which suggests lab, but it isn't a basement, so it could merely be ink pots and an incense burner.  I'd call it a desk, but he is standing up and leaning over reading so seems more like a table.  There is a open book with a lot of tabs marking places, and a bunch of other books about. There are also candelabras providing the light, so it isn't a public library or even any conventional law library, since books and lighted candles usually do not mix in this setting.  Just a guess but he appears to be more like studying "the Seven Laws," than vanilla human law.  Now it could mean he is going to take his case to the Senior Council after all, but I also think that runs contrary to the spoilers because I thought it was vanilla human law that was the topic.

Also says that it will be released soon on e-book format.  But no further information as to when, but said more announcements later this week, if that is so, that is great news for a lot of us.

Cool.
Also, there is an old telephone on the desk at the left side and on the shelf to the right there is a human skull. So presumably his own library.

Edit: And there is no ruby in his pentacle, though that could be the artist's freedom of interpretation.

Or the light, depending on the cut it might not be that refractive if the light level is low, which this seems to be.  So unless the light hits it just right, we wouldn't notice it.

Wonder if that is Bob's skull?  If it is Harry's new castle library, I wouldn't be surprised if it was.  Bob may have less access to the internet now that he is back with Harry, and even if he does, I bet he still likes to read porn.. ::)

In Little Things he was Bob the Castle. Could be, he still uses the skull to retreat and get some peace and quiet. Or it is Bonnie in that skull now.

Ahem, being in the castle he might be able to see.... never mind. ;)

Very good to also release it as an e-book, I prefer reading to audio novels.

Yes, Bob has the run of the castle, but you will remember from Ghost Story that the inside of his skull is a comfortable bachelor's pad, not suitable for Bonea.  Bob still needs a place to relax etc, in other words, his private space. ;)

There is one more small item located just under what appears to be an incense burner, it looks like an old fashioned shaving brush.  Though I doubt that is what it is, now if what I think is an incense burner is a mortar that it could be a pestle.. But mortars usually don't have domed lids, looking at the enlargement, I see smoke coming out of it, so I'd say incense burner.

I have speculated on Bob maintaining a link to the Skull as a lifeboat, and able to split his attentions (it has been shown that he can multitask, at least in relation to watching porn) . If so it allows Bob to be carried about in the skull and access cell phone networks and the internet for Harry on the move and act generally as a mobile bone.

Be worried when he starts assigning ring tones to people to annoy Harry.

Audible have its release date as the 5 July 2022 and a purchase price of £24

Yeah, I'll wait. Not starting an Audible trial that I'm just going to have to cancel to get at this.

Agreed.. I understand why some like an audible book, but as long as I have the eyes and the time, I prefer to read.

Shouldn't the table be much lower? Harry's a giant....

I prefer a real book in my hands, too.

OTOH, if I still had to commute over 3H per day (as I used to) audiobooks might be more tempting!

Like I said, for some people audiobooks are the answer, but as long as I have the time and the eyes I much prefer a book.. I also prefer a book to reading on a Kindle, though I do own an older one and understand it is the better choice sometimes and do choose it.

I like to read the books first, then with my commute i enjoy listening to the audio books.  I have dyslexia and it helps me.  Jim's books are not to bad, but Martin's books were extremely hard, but hearing how some of the names and places were pronounced was extremely helpful.

Apparently according to the website there is a livestream event on the 5 July featuring Jim and James Marsters ? About the release of the Novella.

As Jim is reading this himself I am not sure why James is there, perhaps he is is picketing about being done out of a job by Jim, or is going to critique his performance,  or perhaps they are going to announce something else about the Dresden Files. (quality Disney Plus or Netflix TV series with Marsters as Bob, Toot, Eldest Gruff, (basically every male CGI voice character and live action Nicodemus, he’s good at villains and Nicky has an interesting story arc)

This got me thinking, with Priscilla leaving(?) Jim's team or at least Jim Butcher.com I wonder if the Keeper of The Timeline got a new position with the TV crew?? 100% WAG

The trailer for "The Law" came out, gives no hints beyond what we already know.

I suspect because all the written special editions had sold, so we have to thank all the fans with more money than sense.

Hopefully, nobody spent money they needed for other purposes.

Plenty of rich people can afford stupid purchases, and while it may technically leave them with "less money," it's often not an amount they would ever notice or miss; if your cashflow in & out is in the multi-millions per year, a $500 impulse-buy is meaningless.

Other folks have to think hard about whether they can refill a critical 'scrip on time and still make mortgage, or if they need to skip a dose or three; $500 would destroy their personal finances.

I have a lot of rich people as customers, and the majority of them hate to overpay. And nobody wants to feel like they'd been taken advantage of.
What I'm saying is: Rich or average or poor makes little difference in such a purchase. If you want it, you'll buy it. I bet less than a quarter of the customers for this novella were actually rich.

Oh, yeah, sure!
Mostly the ones who bought the 26 "Lettered" volumes; but as you say, "don't wanna overpay" is a thing that will send some of them to the cheaperless-eyebleeding books; but that run of 2000 isn't going to break very many budgets.

Impulse luxury buy maybe..  However as an investment? Maybe, maybe not, rare books can be worth a lot of money over time, but that is a gamble based on a lot of factors.  My brother in law is in the used and rare book business, and disappoints people all of the time.  So it might some day be jack pot time, or like that "special issue collection" you got from the Franklin Mint.  If you can afford it and enjoy it for it's own sake, go for it.. But most rich people got rich because they were prudent, and I bet a lot of them were willing to wait for the four buck Kindle version, just like the rest of us.

The things I really want don’t exist.

Until I will them into existence.

Like an Ewokskin Rug.

There's a family of 5 that live in my village. Should be enough for 2 rugs. Bring a gun.

The cubs really can’t be used for Trophy rugs.

But they make excellent novelty slippers. Very comfy.

I am a maker, and basically can make anything I desire. At the moment I am making a steampunk version of the Third Doctors Sonic Screwdriver (the version used in the Sea Devils’ my earliest recollection of Doctor Who). Both items are part of a larger collection which I exhibit at Comicons, SF Conventions and Steampunk Exhibitions in support of Museums. It is called The Little Old Curiosity Shop of Horrors.

Don't forget the linings of hoods!  Incomparably soft & luxurious.
