Title: Casting
Post by: davidrcoop on October 03, 2021, 05:13:37 AM
I am revisiting Aeronautís Windlass again, via audible.
Now I am generally a believer in a generic constructs when imagining a novel character but on my maybe fifth listen (2 reads, 5 listens) I have all of a sudden conflated Ferus with Jim Broadbent, most probably influenced by his Slughorn portrayal combined with Eaun Mortonís performance.

I normally like to think of Dresden and Grimm as dark, defined and distinguished but not a replica of a known actor, but now in my brain Ferus is Jim Broadbent.

Anyone else got any casting suggestions?

I can see that he's got the bumbling but kind hearted thing going for him.

I don't have clear casting for the other, but I could imagine Hugh Jackman or Orlando Bloom being Grimm.

What about somebody like Conleth Hill (Varys from GoT) for Ferus?

Jim Broadbent is a very good choice!

I propose Helen Mirren as Cavendish.

I would have liked Emma Watson as Gwen, but I think perhaps she is old now. Anya Taylor-Joy, perhaps?

Creeps me out.

Ferrus IS a little weird....

Did I miss it, or isn't Cavendish too young for Mirren? Mirren is a great actress, but I think cavendish is more middle-aged

Cavendish is probably younger, but I don't think that is very relevant for the character. It's like changing Morgan's race in the Dresden Files show. I think making her older wouldn't affect too much and we would win with a great actress. BUT if you truly think Mirren is unacceptable, I could go with Emma Thompson. I was considering her for Gwen's mother, but I could put another person there. Cate Blanchet perhaps.

Gwen's case is different. Making her young is important for her character (or so I think). We need young people, like Arya Stark, but I don't see her as Gwen. And Bridget has a different body, I don't see any known star as her, so a newbie will be great.

I am thinking that perhaps the Spirearch could be someone like Eddie Marsan.

Well, if you are going GoT, what about Gwendolyn Christie for Bridget? need big, strong woman...

I seriously love Gwendoline Christie but she is way too old for Bridget. But, if going GoT, I wonder if Bella Ramsey (Lyanna Mormont) could do a good Folly.
