Title: Lord Raith must have been frightening before Maggie's binding
Post by: groinkick on March 02, 2021, 07:03:48 PM
Throughout the books we have seen Thomas, and other White's who need to feed regularly.  Especially when they have been injured, or used their enhanced speed, and strength.  Lord Raith after going nearly 30 years without feeding used both enhanced abilities, and healed almost instantly from repeated gunshot wounds.

It's true that Lara was able to defeat him after this, but still that's after 30 + years without a feeding!  Thomas spoke of his kiss of death, which must have been a big deal since no others have done it, and meant he could take on a lot of power in a very short period of time.  Also he stated his father could cross the street, and grab a woman faster then you could see.  Throw in magical immunity that not even the Blackstaff can get through and you have a very dangerous character.

I know Jim stated that a Black Court vamp could rip through a lot of White Court vamps, but I'm wondering where Raith himself would have stood.  He appears to have been quite a ways above other White Court vamps based on the evidence.  He must have had an incredible amount of stored energy to be able to go this long without feeding, and to have healed from those wounds.

He did not do anything that impressive for decades and they were still all scared to death for him. Lara only dared to confront him when she learned about his weakness.

Well, Thomas could briefly fight a weak Black Court vampire, but took a lot of harm doing it. Lord Raith was presumably stronger.

And Thomas compares Drulinda's physical abilities to Lord Raith's old ones in It's My Birthday Too... Drulinda is a new, and likely relatively weak, Black Court master vampire.

So probably mid-range among Blampires?

But the series has scaled up in power a lot since BR.

I don't think he would have fared much better in TC than Lara did -- sure, he was stronger than she is, but not in ways that would have been any use against a naagloshii or the force bubble Eb trapped Lara in.

This part I still don't get - Harry could injure him with keys propelled by earth magic - surely Eb could use something similar?

Perhaps the real limit was that Eb could only try subtle things for political reasons - if his immunity didn't block Harry's keys, it wouldn't block a satellite or asteroid dropped by Eb.

Gotta agree here, being immune to magic doesn't help when the magic is not directly applied to you but used to set up mundane physical force. Being run over by a train because the conductor couldn't see him or running into a tree eater hidden behind a veil would ruin Lord Wraith's day just fine.

I think Eb just did not get the right idea. He used some powerful intricate magic and it failed. If he knew the limitations he would have worked around it.
