Title: DFRPG Youtube Videos
Post by: Mr. Death on August 21, 2020, 12:26:41 AM
So, I've been thinking of doing a set of videos about DFRPG explaining things about the system, inspired by video series like the Dungeon Dudes for DnD 5e.

So, what topics do you think would be useful for new players, or as rules clarifications?

The ones I have in mind are:
1. Aspects
2. What the skills do, and how the stacking system works
3. Combat and Conflicts
3a. Stress and Consequences
4. Spellcasting -- Evocation

5. Spellcasting -- Thaumaturgy
6. Powers
7. Stunts

An explanation of Aspects, with lots of examples. It's a very native thing to FATE, but is very different from other RPGs.

I'm glad to see this! I had kind of feared that there wasn't any interest in DFRPG anymore after the 5+ year publication gap in the novels.

Yes, Aspects definitely, especially if the audience is largely expected to be players of other RPGs rather than Dresden Files fans unfamiliar with RPGs.

D&D is the most popular/commonly played/familiar tabletop RPG, and nothing like Aspects exists there.

That's a really good idea. In fact, I think Aspects is probably the first I should do, since it's the foundation of the system.

Stress and consequences can trip people up; might be worth talking about those.

That's also a good idea.

Also as I'm writing up the Aspects outline, I'm thinking that character aspects specifically and character creation is probably enough for a video on its own.

Next video is up! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7L_l4_7oIg)

Feedback is always appreciated. The next one is gonna be on combat and conflicts -- in addition to going over the basics (initiative, actions available, adjudicating those actions), are there any particular sticking points in that category you'd like to see covered?

And yet another video is up (https://twitter.com/TheCTeamPodcast/status/1326891665441828864), this time delving into Evocation.

Curious what you guys think -- any feedback on this or the other three?

What I've listened to seems good. I don't really have any great desire to watch introductory content though; I do know how to play this game.

If you want a specific suggestion...I think you might oversell what a Superb rating in a skill means, but that's a minor quibble. And it's likely worth mentioning the 1-3-3-3-3 skill pyramid at Submerged.
