Title: Thoughts on Harry's jewelry
Post by: cshaw1313 on July 31, 2020, 08:01:17 PM
I'm in the midst of re-read, and I began wondering about Harry's force rings. They store up kinetic energy from the movement of his hands/arms, especially when using a punching bag. I wonder, if he was to use similar magic on his shield bracelet, could he save, and reuse, the energy from hits to his shield ?

Discuss.

Harry describes himself as powerful but unsubtle, so the spell must be fairly straightforward. His arms moving in all directions will mean kinetic power in all directions: presumably whatever is needed for the block will be present. An attack against the block though is sending force *in* towards him; the opposite of what is required to block the next attack.

A somewhat more skilled practitioner would presumably set up the spell so that absorbing an attack from the front would be available to block an attack from behind; an even more skilled practitioner re-direct the force to do what you describe. But that sounds like something that is centuries in the future for Harry.

A while back there were a lot of theories on possible shield bracelet designs. I'm not sure if they're still around, but they'd be in the Spoilers section, as they contained bits up through Skin Game at the time.
