Title: Alternative style Character Sheet
Post by: cadric on April 08, 2013, 07:12:13 PM
I have tried my hands at creating a somewhat alternative character sheet.
Different in the way that it is more of a traditional style of character sheet, like what you may see in other pen and paper games.
It is inspired by a classic world of darkness CS.

Do not stress out to much over the skills and what they are listed under. It’s just a general overview and I know some of them maybe could be placed better.
It’s a work in progress. If you have alternative ideas how to place them, then please post it :)

Other than that, tell me what you think and if you see some errors do feel free to point them out.
If you have some idea's, then do share :)

This is just... Wow. You can really feel the arcaneness of the game.

"Amazing", said the gruffalo!

I love the font - it feels very Dresden.

An ounce of criticism:
The circles after the skills look a bit like World of Darkness and take up a lot of space compared to the aspects (who are at least as important)

Yes I know. And as I wrote, the inspiration was taken from WoD. But you are right. And I might see if I can rework it to feel more dresden like and give Aspects more room. They are indeed at least, if not much more importain.

My reason for the vast amount of space the skills takes, is because that was what my players had the most problems with in their first game. ( and comming directly from cwod, I hope this sheet will help them )

This is just... Wow. You can really feel the arcaneness of the game.
Thanks :D

I do like the overall feel - the fact that it is modelled on World of Darkness doesn't bother me as much. I do agree that the Aspects section should probably be a quarter or more of that side of the page. They are most important in-game after all.

Keep up the good work!

Looks pretty good.

But you're missing Weapons. And I'd swap Alertness and Resources, if I were you.

Also, the 8 in that font looks like a 3.

I don't think you need all that much space for Aspects. A little more might not hurt, but despite their importance Aspects really don't take up much room.

It looks good. It looks really good. I'll echo the critisism about Aspects needing more room, it's too cramped to fit 5 aspects into the header like that.

I realized when I saw this that I kinda miss having the skills listed in "fixed" positions. I think I might actually make a cheat sheet for my upcoming game with the PC's skills listed that way aswell as the "regular" DFRPG way of highest-to-lowest...

Updated the character sheet with some of the requests made :)

Looks like an improvement to me.

You know, we've got a fair number of character sheets and builders and similar virtual doodads floating around the forum. Some are on the Resource board, others aren't. Might be good to start up a compilation thread.

I dunno, what do y'all think of the idea? Would you find something like that useful?

Updated the character sheet so that you now can fill it in your PDF software.
See the top post for blank version.

Here is an example with Harry: http://sdrv.ms/16MmSn5 (http://sdrv.ms/16MmSn5)

I like it, but I wish the stuff of the edges was a little less. I print out a bunch of character sheets

I think that's exactly what the resourse board is for.  I definitely think it'd be useful.

Anyone else?

I'll give it a vote, I'll actually give it a try for my game tomorrow

Okay then.

First of all, I did a search for things that would be included on the hypothetical thread. Found a bunch.

Lots of broken links, so I'll have to hunt down some people to try and get them fixed.

Also, I should probably include my own templates in there somewhere.

So this is just a first step.

I really like it, a lot more then the "Standard" sheet actually :D

Just one question- do you have easier to save/edit version of it on hand? After I saved it (having to click a button that said "Finish Signing) it wouldn't let me go back and change anything- all the fields just disappeared. It might be that I'm just not that PDF savvy, but is there anyway to get them back so I can edit it further?

That's a really nice Character Sheet. Very Film noir.
Though i personally like the skills as a pyramid a lot, like on the original sheet, i can see how an alphabetical list would be easier to get into in a pinch.
It's nice to have the option.

One suggestion:
The stress-skills next to the physical, mental, social stress track titles. It would be nice to have those editable, since you can change them around with stunts.

As for the compilation thread

I think we could just move/copy relevant threads that aren't already on the resources board over to the resources board.
Then they'd all be in one place and easy to find.
That board is meant to be just that, a collection of resources, was it not?

Mind you, i'm not opposed to a compilation thread, i just don't think it's really a necessity.
Unless someone want's to collect all the stuff and host it so that there aren't so many dead links. Because that would be awesome.

That being said, I hereby move to have this thread moved to the resources board.
Is there a second ? *g*

I'm keen on a compilation thread because I think we have too many Resource threads already.

6 threads full of characters, 2 Custom Power threads, and a few threads that just don't belong on the board at all.

Good idea about the hosting. I can handle that.

Now I'm going to see if I can revive some of those dead links. I'll be sending a lot of PMs tonight.

Messaged TheMightyBuzzard about the NPC Formatilizer.

Messaged theDwarf about his city sheet.

Messaged SavageMage about his character sheet.

Messaged Ghsdkgb about his character sheet.

Messaged Dravokian about his Item Of Power Reference Cards.

Messaged Bubba Amon Hotep about his Custom Fate Cards.

That should cover every broken link in there.

Actually, that's not every broken link.

I forgot about the people over here (http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,16789.0.html).

I'll message them tomorrow.

Not really expecting replies, but it was worth a try.
