 Hey Snowy! I head out June 24th, ten days after graduation. And I'm fine. Just been busy. As for what have I blown up.... well, the finishing room in woodshop has quite alot of flammables in it... It wasn't my fault though! It was the other guy that pulled out the lighter! He's still growing back his eyebrows too... My burns have all healed though!

I think SHS is going for PsyOps - but I don't know what branch of the service.
I suspect that each branch has different basic training locations.
When we finally get addresses - I also hope that somebody lets us know what you should
or shouldn't say or send to someone so we don't cause them any trouble.

I have the suspicion it has something to do with the way the recruit is regarded. If he receives food, he is regarded as a spoiled baby or something like that. It's just a suspicion.
If SHS says no food, I wouldn't send food anyway.

It's been too long since I knew someone who was in boot camp, but once they're in the field, as long as they share (and I sent plenty to be shared), those who receive treats are quite popular.  (But it's academic at this point since I don't have an address to send goodies to anyway.)

As soon as I hear from my son, I'll post the address so that everyone can send notes and cards.  They'll need them.

(Anyone know GW's RL name?)

As to WHAT to send them ... Do NOT send anything to eat to them while they are in Basic Training (the next 8-weeks).  They get enough to eat, and if you send something they will be forced to eat ALL of it right then, then do sit-ups or push-ups until they "return" the food.

You can send them all the letters and cards and pictures you want.  NO risque ones and EVERYONE gets to see the pictures.

See my previous post, but once they are out of Boot you can send goodies, but I'd still ask what they might want.

Thank you very much, Ma'am.  I should know something in the next week.  They are SUPPOSED to be shipping back everything he took with him (clothes, shoes, glasses, phone, toothbrush, ... I would limit it to cards and letters.  In fact if you want to send (up to PG rated) pictures, it would be best to print them on regular paper.  If they feel something odd in an envelope they'll make the recruit open it right then and there and show everyone.  Regular paper is cool though.

Yup glasses.  He'll get issued Official US Government glasses.  Though I think his current glasses would probably pass for the USG one's.  Thick black frames.   Hey!  He picked them out.

lol they sound a bit like my NHS glasses (thick dark blue frames... but I have dicided I like wire rim glasses better... the weight is better on my small face, lucky you get some choice on the NHS, not much but some)
I still would not like people messing with my glasses
I fined them useful and have to make them last as long as I can as replacing them costs money

I just posted this in the other thread, but I thought here would be good too.

We just received the box with my son's clothing and such in it.  I don't know if there's an address because I'm told there's some form letters we are supposed to be getting as well, and those for sure have them in it.

I've also learned that it's possible that they are NOT in the same ship.  Ship being the barracks they live in during Boot Camp.  I'll try to find out more.

Snow - You are welcome to send cards.  Silly cards are fun.  Please don't send him singing cards.  My mother sent one to my nephew when HE was in boot and they made him dance the Snoopy dance every day for a week.  The card was playing the Peanuts theme.

As to what he's into ... Anime, gaming - mostly role playing.  He used to lie in his bed for hours listening to pod casts of gaming.

Snow,

When I took those pictures, we were at O'Hare seeing them off.  They had a 6:00 am flight to S. Carolina for school.  We've (Wife and other kids) have spent the last two days hitting Dresden spots around Chicago.  It was a blast.  I'll post a link to pictures here shortly (as in later this week).

Do you think I would have survived boot camp any other way?  Psssh. I scaled it way back. Very few people knew the real me. One of my RDC's favorite things to say to people was "Don't be weird dude." And when he said it to me, it was almost  a personal attack.

Recruit Division Commander . Like a drill instructor but smarter and a lot of attention to detail.  Uniform inspections for miles. Do not tell them about your favorite book series. They will judge you.
