Yay! I guess Chicago can get some extra love because it IS the setting for the Dresden Files. The whole family will be in costume there with our 2.5 month old dressed as Toot Toot.
(this puts us in the running for either best or worst parents. I will let you decide)
Can't think of the name of the city he was in last year in IL, is Skokie a lot further away from there. (dang memory, serves me right for having another bday :D)
oops, just saw it's much further..rats... but glad others will be able to make it :)
Would love to drive over from Kalamazoo Michigan area anyone know if are there any hotels in that area that won't break the holiday bank for after the signing it is 151 miles from me to there so would want to catch a few z's before starting back...
Shibby ..
Since I'm back out here again, I'll probably be able to come to this! I hope I get to see some of you.
(Maybe I can find an apartment in Skokie. :P )
Kalamazoo, eh? Me and the GF are driving in from the Detroit Metro area. Unfortunately we're making a long weekend out of the trip, so carpooling isn't an option. :-/
... But it should be a kickass time!
Does anyone know whether or not there's any McAnally-Like pubs nearby? That'd be a fun detour after the signing for more conversational hangings-out.
Small world... I use to repair computers and printers at K College and Western as well all the time.... I did that from 2003 to 2008 when did you attend?
shibby
Alas, we graduated in 2002 so you just missed us.

You can call and ask the store. I called about buying a book at another Barnes and Noble (because who can wait 3 days, really?) and they said it would be fine as long as I bought the receipt with me. So I imagine ordering from BN online would be ok, but best to double check
I hope to get to meet you, BL!
Got info from a trustworthy source that the Chicago signing is cancelled, too. Here's to Jim getting better!
My impression is that Chicago is looking unlikely, but I could certainly be wrong. I expect it'll be decided after the holidays. I'll let folks know as soon as there's something concrete to report.
Alas, I was kind of expecting that. Thanks for the update, I'll see if I can talk my wife in letting me go to KC, but that doesn't seem likely either. :'(
I seem to remember somewhere that there was a way you could order a signed and personalized book? I looked in the store link but didn't see one.
Thanks again for the update and I hope he feels better soon.
My understanding was that folks who were going to attend the Chicago signing would be sent signed bookplates, though I might be mistaken. I'll poke Jim and ask.
To answer your question, you can order signed books through Jim's local independent bookstore, Dog Eared Books (http://www.dogearedhalf-pricebooks.com/). Call or email them, and they'll give you the skinny. I'm not sure how often Jim goes over to sign for them, and it may take a while for the order to be processed at this stage, given all the hubbub of the holidays, but things should calm down in the new year.
This would be pretty cool, if it could be arranged. How would this be handled? Would it require me do dig out my receipt or something?
His default dedcication on them should be "Sorry I missed you! -Jim Butcher"
Is there an official say in what is to happen? I would gladly contact Dog Eared Books for something I guess. The problem is that I already bought the book... if I had to buy another copy...it will be kind of a waste. I know that this is like 2 weeks later but I kind of had high hopes to finally see Jim live, so I ordered a book through Barnes and Noble so I could go to the signing. I could have bought the book from Dog Eared Books, but I figured that I would rather meet Jim and let him sign it than to have it virtually signed. Is there going to be a replaced date at all for anywhere near Chicago? Or should I just wait until the next year and have Jim sign 1 copy of Cold Days and the new one? That's my situation, too. Though I didn't know about D.E.B. at the time...
I sent an email to Jim's publicist, but she's taking an extended winter break. She should be back on the 12th. I'll let you know what she say!
Did you find out anything?
Poked! Jim says: "I'm signing a ton of bookplates this week, I assume for Chicago. The KC event is real."
I'll keep you updated!

I saved my receipt also. But the question comes down to, how do we get these book plates if Jim is not coming to Chicago? He can't possibly track us all down...
It would be a bummer if kc got rescheduled and IL didn't get any love
I mean, the stories are based outta Chicago, that's gotta count for something!! Lol
And the book plates are also a no go?
