EDITED 1 JUN 2006, 11.50AM EASTERN
Check out this post, which has instructions:
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=25009.0
For example, getting a feed of posts from the Dresden Files Books forum (board #2 -- you can figure that out by looking at the number of the board when looking at the listing of threads):
http://www.jim-butcher.com/bb/index.php/feed.xml?action=.xml;type=rss;board=2
KNOWN ISSUES
I had thought that this allowed to do a feed of anything on the site like, say, Jim's posts only, etc, but right now it appears that the feature set is less extensive than I'd originally assumed it to be.
I have also not yet determined how to get it to pass through authentication credentials that would allow perusal of boards that people can't see without membership. If this continues not to work, I'll open up the posts to be read-only, but no posting access, for guest users.

I am an ignorant hick from way back Could you explain about the rss feed of Jims comments and what does it mean. Try to explain it in small words please ;D

Start with the wikipedia entry on it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS_%28file_format%29
(Also, you may want to make sure you aren't hitting return every third word. Your post is very narrow!)

Is anyone else having trouble making this work? I use RSS feeds in my Yahoo mail and have added quite a few with no problems, but when I try these it always says there is a problem and to try again later. I've been trying since yesterday.

I don't make much use of these feeds myself, but I'll see what I can figure out.

Well, that's *fascinating*. It'd be nice if this feature worked as they advertised it did. Despite doing everything I should to get the feed of Jim's posts, it's insisting on giving me a list of posts that I subscribed to, or some other such weirdness. I'll continue to investigate.

In the interests of getting the board feeds working, at least, now unregistered guests can see the most recent posts -- so you should at least be able to set up feeds by board.
It doesn't appear at present that the software supports doing a feed of a particular user's most recent posts. I'll see if I can learn how to do that, but don't hold your breath.

Thanks, Fred. My feed is still giving me trouble, but I'll see if I can figure out why. It's not the end of the world if I can't make it work, but it definitely would make it easier for me to read from work if I'm not pulling up a colorful, graphic-filled message board all the time.

Or you could just turn off pictures in your browser. Makes the board much less garish that way. You could even adjust the default color scheme in your preferences, tho the default pale blue on white seems pretty unobtrusive to me...

Can you post the link you've given your RSS aggregator, so I can see if I can spot any simple problems with it?

I'm afraid I'm about to win the Idiot Award. I've been trying to use the link you put in the first post above:
http://www.jim-butcher.com/bb/index.php/feed.xml?action=.xml;type=rss;board=2
Is that wrong?
-
That *should* work fine, though you can also try setting it to type=rss2 instead of just type=rss and see if that does anything.
-
It's still not working, so I think it may be a problem with my RSS reader. I haven't had trouble with any other RSS feed I've tried, but I'll keep tinkering and see what I can do.
Thanks for the help!
