Title: Coming April: Fool Moon!
Post by: Priscellie on April 01, 2011, 04:00:54 AM
Edit: Don’t worry, this was an April Fool’s Day joke! Hope you had a delightfully surreal day. :D

We'd hoped this morning to announce the release date for issue 1 of JIM BUTCHER'S THE DRESDEN FILES: FOOL MOON," which was initially slated for April 6th, 2011.  However, we have an even more exciting announcement!  Dynamite Entertainment has made the radical decision to STOP THE PRESSES, because FOOL MOON is getting a facelift!  In fact, the entire issue is being redrawn!

Many readers complained that they had difficulty recognizing Harry without his trademark hat, so fans can expect to see him wearing it in every frame.  Lieutenant Murphy will be made Latina, Susan Rodriguez will be a blonde, and Bob will be a ghost, to reflect the wildly popular Dresden Files TV show.  To avoid confusion, the Blue Beetle will actually be blue!  And to appeal to a wider demographic, Harry will investigate occult crimes in Chicago with the help of his street-wise, talking tomcat sidekick, Mister.

Furthermore, the book's focus on werewolves left some readers wondering where all the vampires were.  The script is therefore being revised to bring in fan-favorite Thomas Raith, who will be printed with a revolutionary color-shifting iridescent ink for a truly dazzling "sparkle" effect.  Young werewolf Billy Borden will be depicted similarly muscular and shirtless.  Who will Tera West choose?

Look for FOOL MOON, issue 1, on April 25th, 2012!

Also, don't miss the highly anticipated Dresden Files spinoff, Li'l Harry Adventures™.  Teach your kids how to "spell" with these delightful stories, in which our plucky 8-year-old hero solves mysteries at the orphanage and learns about the true meaning of friendship!

Issue 1:  Who Stole Stevie's Lucky Socks?  (coming 6/13/2012)
Issue 2:  The Mystery of the Haunted Broom Closet (11/7/2012)
Issue 3:  Li'l Harry vs. the Monster Under the Bed (2/27/2013)
Issue 4:  Even Sasquatch Loves Broccoli! (7/30/2014)

Li'l Harry Adventures™ is available only through participating McDonalds locations, with the purchase of 1 or more Pepsi products.

We can't wait to share these thrilling new projects with you.  We think all readers, old and new, will agree that these changes are worth getting excited about!  Preview pages for both series will soon be available to fans by registering and referring friends to our upcoming Facebook Dresden Files Browser Campaign.

Have a great April!

I just noticed that the message on Harry's gravestone is different: instead of saying "He died doing the right thing," it says "He saved the world. A lot."  Fantastic Buffy the Vampire Slayer reference!!!!

Other ideas that did not make it into the post due to space considerations:
*The Taco Bell Dog (sponsored by Pepsi) becomes Mister's cousin/side-kick, ala Scrappy Doo.
*Dynamite was scrapping the entire idea of using an artist, as was going to experiment with telling the story through a photo shoot.
*With the addition of a special embedded chip, like those found in greeting cards, the comics will be read aloud in audiobook format (with all the contents of the panels described) by Terrence Mann.
*Harry has to go to special environmental "Go Green" training after that incident with the Chlorofiend.
*In order to promote Girl Power, Kincaid will no longer be the Archive's bodyguard, as she will be able to defend herself with her knowledge of kung-fu, ninjitsu, and feng shui.

Here's a clue to the actual fact in the original post: http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,25116.0.html

Er, I have to disagree. He had lost both his parents by that time, and that counts for more than 1% of what he is now. Of course, he wasn't a wizard yet (but he had a fairy godmother). That is the part of the story that I'm dying to know. Who took care of newly born Harry until his father arrives? Hospital crew? Or he was born in a lonely place, only with Lea asisting Maggie? And then, when did Harry find about Lea? And Changes spoiler:
(click to show/hide)
And has Thomas ever found about him when Harry was a child and Thomas a new vampire?

I should've been more clear.  Yes, the loss of both parents had a PROFOUND impact on Harry--I'm not trying to downplay that.  I'm referring to the character traits that make Harry distinctive as a fictional character.  His gallery of friends and foes, his style of magic, his dark past with Justin, his tumultuous relationship with the White Council... even his look.  There would be very few of the qualities and quirks that endear us to present-Harry in his eight-year-old self.  He'd be barely recognizable.

The comment wasn't meant to provoke a serious discussion, though!  Assign whatever percentage feels right to you. :D

I love this place so much.

And, while Li'l Harry wouldn't be Harry, I have to admit that reading about a precocious 8 year old snarking off to authority and trashing baby chlorofiends with his wits instead of with magic would be vastly amusing.

Also, I NEED to have Thomas in one of the later books described as wearing an irridescent sparkly tracksuit.

*happy sigh*  That was even more fun than Gmail Motion.   :D

To me the distinction is this, it wouldn't have to be Harru Dresden as he was at age 8.  It could be Harry Dresden, mini'd down to an 8 year old.  Sort of like how Marvel comics always used to have those 'Mini Marvels' strips on the Bullpen page.

Did you all enjoy our little April Fool's Day prank yesterday?  We posted a "press release" detailing a series of absurd changes for the "Fool Moon" graphic novel and announcing a new spinoff series: "Li'l Harry Adventures."  Sharp-eyed fans may have also noticed that the "Ghost Story" cover art in the Jim-Butcher.com header was replaced by a photo of Nicholas Cage in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," and the legend on Harry's tombstone was swapped with a "Buffy" reference: "He Saved The World A Lot."

Don't worry, it was all a joke!  We have no intention of deviating from the source material.  The whole Dynamite Entertainment graphic novel team remains committed to reproducing Jim's stories as faithfully as possible.

You can read the REAL press release here (http://www.jim-butcher.com/posts/2011/fool_moon_gn_1).  Issue #1 of "Fool Moon" hits stores this Wednesday, and we're so excited for you to see Chase Conley's fabulous art that Dynamite has provided a ten-page preview!  Find the comics shop nearest you at comicshoplocator.com/ (http://comicshoplocator.com/), or order a copy online through DynamiteEntertainment.com (http://www.dynamiteentertainment.com/htmlfiles/viewProduct.html?PRO=C725130152800).

We hope you all had a fun and safe April 1st!

If you missed the joke yesterday, you can still see it here (http://www.jim-butcher.com/posts/2011/coming-april-fool-moon).
Discuss it here (http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,25105.0.html).

Bwahahahahaha!

*Wipes tears of laughter away from eyes*

Thanks for the great joke, everybody. April first is way more fun on the internet that in real life (especially when your job is working with kids...)

And beautiful work, Payne! I always love to see a good Bard parody.

Can I second the request for a glimpse of the fake banner? I only saw the announcement this morning because of the newsfeed, and the banner's back to normal.

NICE!!!

Thanks, guys.  But remember Prisc, Mickey and the others did all the heavy lifting on this one.  I just slapped it on the ass on the way out.   ;)

Okay, I will post ONE piece of hate mail, because I laughed so loudly I hurt something.  I'm still not completely convinced the person wasn't joking:

We do NOT support practical jokes! Practical jokes diminish us all by making light of honesty!  Practical jokes are not fun; they are demeaning to us all!

We enjoy hearing updates from your emails about Jim Butcher & Harry Dresden!

Continue with foolishness and we will cancel our subscription with you!

Point of Interest #1:  They are on an announcement list for a FANTASY AUTHOR.  Does fiction make light of honesty, too?  I mean, do we have conclusive evidence that polka will never die?  Doesn't that diminish the realm of physics, which teaches us that our sun will die in 5 billion years and swallow up Mercury, Venus, and Earth, and likely polka with them?

Point of Interest #2:  The announcement list is a FREE SERVICE.  It's no skin off my nose if someone unsubscribes.  The only loser is the unsubscriber, who now has to get information about book releases and other exciting stuff second or third or fourthhand.

If we moderators have offended,
Think but this, and all is mended,
That you have but googled here
While these banners did appear.
And this weak and idle link,
No more yielding but stiff drink,
Members, do not reprehend:
if you pardon, we will mend:
And, as I am an honest Payne,
If we have unearned fame
Now to 'scape the serpent's tongue,
We will make amends ere long;
Else the Payne a liar call;
So, good night unto you all.
Give us your hands, if we be friends,
And Priscillie shall restore amends.

BRAVO!!!!!

See, that's the type of thing I'd write as a satirical wink and nod of appreciation at a good Gotcha.  Or in an off the cuff satire of someone who really was offended.

That's what I was saying, too (although it was through the filter of a couple of beers). My first assumption is almost always "Snark. Duh." :D

Well, technically Polka has already been broadcast, and the radio waves should carry on through space forever...

BOOYEAH!

I wouldn't rank us above Scalzi's fake book, because I was laughing so hard I was in tears and ended up having to read the first massive paragraph to my coworkers so they would stop looking at me like I was crazy, but I appreciate the recognition!

I just wish they'd give you, Mickey and Fred the credit you deserve. And I still think a faux book 14, Cold Cash, would've rocked. :D

I dont know a lot of other kids, so I can only speculate from casual encounters with the children of my middle class co-workers and what I see on TV. Some adjectives that come to mind: vapid, helpless, self-centered, melodramatic, and naive.
