Title: Welcome back!
Post by: Priscellie on May 25, 2008, 03:05:31 PM
Did you miss us?  For a full day and a half, our host was down.  A hardware failure due to a degraded array. How did you spend your suddenly-free time?

Besides continually hitting refresh to see if the site was back?   ;D

Played Sims, actually cleaned the house, and planted roses.  Woo!!

And of COURSE I missed you!   :-*

Am I right to assume that there were some posts lost in the resurrection of the server?  I just noticed that a few posts I made are no longer there.

Yes I missed you.  I forced to actually notice my kitchen needed cleaning.

Yes, alas.  It's rather frustrating, but ah well.  No use crying over spilled milk.

I missed you, I thought it was my computer at first, but then saw the note. Welcome back!!
I'll go and see if there are any interesting posts to read. ;D

Let's see. Decided to sell everything I own and move to Phoenix, applied for about two dozen jobs, and scrubbed all my yard furniture.

Well, after sitting under the stairs cutting myself for a while, I went outside, and this "Sunlight" and "Air" stuff just got all over me, which made me cry some more, so I came back inside and wept bitter tears, my heart as bleak and empty as my sock drawer on a Thursday.

Ok, not really.   ;)

Actually, I blew the dust off of my City of Heroes disks, reinstalled, and figured I'd give that another try.  Seems like a bunch of improvements since I wandered off.

Anyway, it's great to see everyone again.

I did a lot of laundry, and got in some extra guitar practice. Nice to see the forum back though, so I can get back to wasting some free time.  :)

First thing I did was curse like a sailor.   :o  I actually had FREE time, time where I could PLAY and catch up on forum stuff, and instead I was forced to PRODUCTIVE things...  getting information for our upcoming vacation, cleaning out a storage room, doing laundry.  Scary stuff.  It needed doing though...

Bummer that posts were lost (I lost some PMs, too) - it looks like about 3 days' worth, maybe 4?

Any chance of recovering them?

Any chance of recovering them?

Nope.  They're lost to the ether.

Quoth Fred:
The host was restored from the hosting company's most current backup.  Since the previous machine is dead dead dead, there's no way to access the data that occurred but wasn't backed up in the short window between the last backup and the crash.

The world will lament missing a even a few posts displaying my stunning genius and astounding wit, but I suppose it can keep it's chin up and muddle through until I can provide a few more drops of golden wisdom and enlightenment.   ::)

Seriously, I'm just glad the boards are back up.  If a day or two down and some posts lost are the worst things that happen to any of us this year, it'll be a good one.

I had a guest, so I spent a lot of time with him and the kid.

Well, I have a photobucket account, but it is private so no one can take  my photos and use them.  I know this sounds paranoid, but it has happened to other people.  I have to put the © on all of them.  But I will post some now and then. It is harder to take them from posts here because they are a small resolution and don't reproduce well.  I post frequently on a photography forum and this is a big issue there.  Some of the pros have been really burned.  That is why I told Amaranth she should sign her drawings that she posted here.  If you look at my avatar, you can see the tiny © in the corner.  I have to do that to all of them if I want to post a link. *sigh*  I would love to though.

I went into serious forum withdrawal...both the forums I read were down.   :'(  After I uncurled from the fetal position I brushed the cats.  They were happy.

I kept thinking about what it was like when I played Everquest and the servers would go down mysteriously.  I finally decided that the hamster they had had a heart attack and fell of them wheel causing the servers to be down until they could train a new hamster.  All this talk about degenerating arrays and stuff is just techspeak for needing a new hamster.

I'm just glad things came back up before I started back at work...  :D

Since I didn't have much time for posting on my supposedly relaxing vacation, I took some time to realize that I can only truly reach my full slacker potential when I'm at work. If I'm at home, I'm getting too much stuff done. Also, staying up all night spodding. I like living fictional. The people are pretty there. Also, no one asks me to babysit.

This is true, but at least I've never had to change a diaper on the forums. Deal with some shit, yes, but no diapers!  :D

I said "To hell with it" and went to Cancun.  Figured my departure would certainly inspire efforts to get the site back up and running.

Glad to see it worked. ;D
