Title: Curiosity once more
Post by: gemstone on May 13, 2008, 12:02:42 PM
Who are all the "guests" who are showing as on-line.  I could understand a couple people at a time checking out the site to see what it is about, but there are usually 90+ showing.  They can't post, so why just lurk?  Are there really that many non-members lurking?

Yep.  Lots of folks like to just read, but not respond.

That's kind of like taking yourself to the prom and refusing to dance.  :D

Maybe so, but it mirrors behavior we saw with the mcanally's mailing list back in the day.

I'm guessing some of the "guests" are Internet spiders wandering through. I've noticed Google, in particular, had a lot of posts from the forums here indexed by user names.

Which just freaks me out, btw.

It's true. The other day I was bored and Googling forum names. I know. I need a new hobby. Annny-whatzle, if you Google Murphy's Stunt Double without quotes around it, you'll get Boobhenge on page 2 and if you Google Neurovore, you'll get the Pimp Momma Helen link. I'm happy to report my own name is still safe from the spiders.

even scarier, since here we use handles, is the fact that if I google my REAL NAME, the fact that I posted something on our list-serve at work, comes up and gives people my place of employment!

This is why 1) even the people here that know my actual real name don't know my last name or anything beyond my family nickname and 2) I'm glad I have an astoundingly common name to begin with.

I think everyone should "google" their own names and find out what IS out there.  It is scary.

You should get together with Mulder and Scully some time.

That's the main reason I refer to my children as Eldest and Youngest. I market my real name, so I try to keep my playtime and my business stuff as separate as I can from my family.

I used my real name and email in a couple of forums long ago before I knew any better. Then I Googled myself one day, and got a clue where a lot of my spam mail was coming from. I never use my own name in a forum anymore, and when I have to register an email address to get access, I use an alternative that will catch any spam that results.

Yep... it's always a good idea to have a spam email address that you sign up for anything with, and then if they send you stuff you really want, you can always change your address with them to something you don't going into periodically and mass delete.

We keep inviting them into the parlor for tea, but they won't do anything but hang in the doorway and peer inside. Whatcha gonna do?

Do you blame them?  Have you *seen* what's been going on in Mac's lately?  Some crazed woman is running around with a Glitter Cannon.

And another one is nekkid. Scandalous!

Actually, two of them are nekkid, and waiting to be glittered.

Aha! That's why so many gawkers are showing up. They Google for nekkid people, and the Google spiders are pointing them to McAnally's.

How disappointing for them.  Instead of pictures of nekkid people, they get a discussion on the best way to glitter nekkid people.

Another good question is how do you get someone UNGLITTERED?  My 4 year old granddaughter found the Halloween makeup the other day and she was glittered EVERYWHERE.  It is still in her hair......and of course it is ALL OVER THE HOUSE!

To unglitter hair, add baby powder. OUTSIDE. And then have her hang her head uupside down to shake it out, then wash it.

The baby powder will soak up the body oils in the hair so the glitter can unstick.

But...but....why would you want to unglitter?!

To reduce friction.

Friction is a bad thing?

If it feels like sandpaper rubbing against your bare skin. Unless you are actually trying to exfoliate.  ;)

Um... feeling a need to relieve the creepy by pointing out it's a child that needs unglittering... not Rashad's wang or something.

Serves me for skipping to the last page. Still, I stand by my stance that glitter's always a good thing.
