Title: You'd think they'd change that on day 1 ...

Huh..

Still lists Twelve Months as "upcoming" and release date "TBD"

(Also, "Mirror Mirror" is still stuck on "28%"... and has been for a while)

Friday Jim said he was at about 30% and he will get back to writing when the book tour ends. He's said the same thing in a few interviews. I think he probably is at the same point as when it updated to 28%. Just my guess.

He said that the publisher probably won't publish Mirror Mirror this year even if he finishes it on time.

I'm pretty sure he said that he had a Goodman Grey story coming in April, but I can't find that on the sight.

I really don't know what has happened to the community. This place used to be impossible to keep up with, beta readers were active, and people could pull up WoJ quotes in a few minutes.

I'm not blaming anyone. I used to be able to pull up the WoJ quotes myself, mostly from memory. At least enough to be able to easily find the verbatim quotes. Life happens.

I used to be here under a different name, and yeah, you're right, this place would have been crazy a week after the release of a new book before.

I'm not sure what happened exactly, but I think the time between Skin Game and Peace Talks made the story lose a lot of readers, and the wait for Twelve Months didn't help. Plus, well, I personally know a dozen people who left the series because of what happened to Murphy in Battle Ground, so I imagine you can translate that into a bigger number in the community.

The new fans that joined the series in the period since Battle Ground are mostly in Reddit, and that community (IMO) has a whole different vibe (as do most of the new fans). And, since JB was looking for new beta readers, I imagine a lot of the "old guard" are unable to help these days, which is a shame, I thought there were things in the book that didn't exactly fit and they would have caught maybe.

The reality is that it's been 10 years since the series had any real momentum, and a lot changes in that kind of time. Heck, I think even Jim's goal with the story is changing.

Yep, and Butcher publicly making 'commitments' and blowing past them ('MM will be finished before 12M book tour') isn't helping either.  Neither is the fact that after MM, Butcher plans to write a book in one of his other series, which suggests there's likely to be a significant gap between MM and the next Dresden book (3 years?).  Having the '% Complete' on the next book isn't a substitute for finishing the 7 remaining books (current plan, but who knows?) on a one-every-12-to-18-month pace that they were on until Skin Game was published 10 years ago in 2015.

Wait, where did you see that?  I might throw my hat into that particular ring...

I heard someone say something about filling out a form on his website and a crazy NDA. This was in line at a book tour event waiting for the doors to open.

About 2 months ago, I actually got an email inviting me to apply to be a beta.  The email said betas were being sought for MM.  I don't know why I got the invite; maybe because I signed up for Butcher's newsletter.

In any event, I completed and submitted the form quickly and haven't heard anything since except the sound of crickets.
