Title: Twelve Months Timeline Comparisons
Post by: Talby16 on May 12, 2025, 10:41:14 PM
Like everyone, I am very interested in when Twelve Months Releases. I know that it is listed on the Publishers website for 1/20/26, but that seems a little off since we have not had an official announcement from the author or his website. I did a little digging to look at what his most recent books did in terms of dates (note: no battleground because of the whole duology thing with Peace Talks).

Book                   Off to editor               Release Date Announced                   Cover Announced                    Date Released
Cold Days            4/4/11                      8/18/12                                           8/18/12                                  11/27/12
Skin Game                                          12/19/13                                         12/16/13                                  5/27/14
Peace Talks          07/22/19                  12/17/19                                         01/16/20                                  7/14/20
Twelve Months     2/19/25
Olympian Affair    3/21/23                     04/20/23                                         05/25/23                                 11/7/23

Unfortunately, after looking at the data, the January date may be more accurate than I first believed. Olympian Affair had just over 7 months from off to the editor to the release date, but that was on the short side. Cold Days was a year and a half. I could not find the off to the editor post for Skin Game, but based upon the other dates I would estimate around July of 2013 which puts the total time at 10 months. Peace Talks was right at a year between editor and release date. The release date on the publisher's website may only be a placeholder, but it looks to be a fair guesstimate given his most recent releases at approximately 11 months after he sent it to the editor. The release date and cover art look to be announced fairly close together historically roughly four to five months after the book goes to the editor. That possibly means a July to August announcement.

I personally hope that this book is closer to the Olympian Affair schedule, but given that it took so long to write and is very different than his usual Dresden Files Book I am preparing myself for a 2026 release.

I wonder what the desire to have the audiobook release on the same date as the book does to the editorial timeline. Can't record it before you have the copy finalized.

I would expect the author to have minimal insight and zero control, at this point; the publisher has the authoritative info.

Jim learns the release date when they tell him.

I agree that he has little to no control on the publishing date. What I find odd is that there has been no official announcement from social media/website from the author if the publisher's date is firm. I tend to believe that the date on the publisher's website is a placeholder because of the lack of author announcement and that for the most recent Dresden Files books an official announcement was made months after the editing process began.
