Title: Introduction to the Forum
Post by: DoTArchon on July 16, 2011, 04:40:13 PM
Hi Fred and/or Mods

When newcomers log in for the first time could it not maybe be set up to go straight into a board call Introduction to the Forum?

This board need not be very large, consisting only of a few stickied threads such as "The Book of Don't", maybe a thread where new members can introduce themselves etc. To avoid unnecessary clutter, new topics may only be started by mods should a new topic be needed.

I know most of these topics already fall under Announcements / Site Suggestions / Story of Us and so on, but when I started here I posted for 3 months before venturing anywhere other than the DF Spoilers board(and even then I had only read the "This is a spoiler okay zone" thread). This could potentially cut down on some of the new posters overstepping a line before being pointed to the rules by moderator, kind of a, when you started you were given the oppurtunity to go over how things are done here.

Just my 2 cents

Hm, I don't think there's a "hook" for that. If someone wanted to construct a "welcome to the forum" thread on one of the more prominent boards, I could sticky it, but that's about as good as it'd get.

Something like this?

This is just a basic idea of what I had in mind, but I think it would be better (read: official welcome) if it was edited and posted by yourself or a mod, wherever would be most relevant/visible. Once again, just my 2 cents :)

last year Shecky made it a point to me to distinguish himself as a Barkeeper rather than an official Mod.  And I believe Priscellie's title would be full on Administrator, but I'm not 100% on that.  Either way, I recommend moving her to the top of the field.

Yup, ME, PG and I are all Warden/Barkeepers - Wardens in the Macanally's Bar subforum (i.e., w/ mod privileges) and Barkeepers everywhere else (essentially "Bobbies" on patrol with a loud whistle :D ). The three of us tend to call each other "baby mods" and the rest of 'em "gr'ups". ;D

Priscellie is, in fact, both a mod and an admin. She sits at the right hand of the Iago. :)

And my name's still Shecky. ;)

It's a good thing I'm not an admin, or I'd be abusing the ability to force that pic into Sexxxy Shexxxy's avatar

That thread is a good idea DoTArchon. It would help the newcomers a lot.

I know when I was new in these here parts it would have helped me some.

SLANDER. I have not once in my life pooped a party. And I'm not finishing that thought, out of respect for everyone's dinners.

Don't they make an ointment that will clear that up?

You just committed Libel on the goddess.

And why is Priscellie not listed as Goddess along with the admin title, which I submit is much less interesting and worship-worthy?
