Do you mean, what would a non-supernatural mental conflict be, or what would any mental conflict be? (And have you read the section starting on YS217 yet?)

Psychological torture and domination are the ones that jump to mind. If you are playing a horror based/tainted DF game you could consider it a slow slide into insanity (ala Cthulhu) for seeing the things that should not be.

maybe a riddle-contest with a sphinx or another supernatural guardian of knowledge.

It's generally more about conflict with someone you love or getting tortured - anything that messes up what you think of yourself rather than what others might think of you.
