Title: Miniatures; where could I find someone who makes customs?
Post by: SloanKing on March 07, 2010, 02:26:39 PM
I've been looking around the net, and I kinda wanted a mini of the character I've been thinking up for the Dresden Roleplay I'm planning with friends, modern yet mystical, ya' know?

Anyone know of any sites that commission mini's?

Not sure about custom work but Reaper (http://www.reapermini.com/) has a little something for everyone.

Well, a quick google search showed:
http://www.livingdice.com/631/custom-rpg-miniatures-for-4000/

Also , contact your local IPMS ( http://www.ipmsusa.org/ ) chapter. They might have a member that will do custom pieces. Most chapters do tend heavily towards aircraft and armor, but there are some that specialize in sci-fi, figures, cars, and other subjects.

OR, you can make it yourself!
Super Sculpey ( http://ww.sculpey.com/products/clays/super-sculpey-firm ) is an excellent product for a beginner, as you have to bake it for it fully cure.
Also, ProCreate putty (review here: http://www.stormthecastle.com/miniatures/products-clays/procreate-putty.htm website here http://www.kraftmark.biz/kraft.procreate.html ) is very good for detail, but as it is an epoxy putty, you only have 2 hours or so work time for each batch before the catalyst cures the resin. There are many good figure webforums out there and some great boards in other genre's forums. I am partial to http://www.starshipmodeler.net/talk/index.php but that's because I am a spaceship geek at heart.
