BORDERS #464/Lee's Summit
1664 N.W. Chipman Road
Lee's Summit, MO 64081
Reading and signing.

Does this mean if I buy my copy day of release at my closer Borders I can still get it signed at this one? B&N did that, but I don't know about Borders.

It's considered good form to buy something at a bookstore when you go for a signing, but at many bookstores, it doesn't have to be the book you're getting signed. You might want to call that location and inquire about their signing policy, though.
-
Yeah, I'll just call the store. B&N was good with SmFv being signed as long as it was purchased at a B&N and you had the sales slip. Hopefully Borders will be the same. They are after all chains not indies. I just don't have the money to buy two, and well I don't see me being able to wait till the 12th :D.
-
*grumbles*
This is the nearest one and it's still 276ish miles away >:(
-
*sigh* I live in Independence and still can't get to a signing. I'm leaving for a work conference this day.
Last year it was tickets to a show forced on me by my wife and parents in April and a vacation in May.
-
I'll be there :D I have a question though I had already planned on taking a camera, should I take my video camera as well so that I can make a video for the forums? It would be simple enough to tape the proceedings break it into sections and post it on youtube. Assuming Borders allows cameras of course.

Please do! If Borders is cool with it, of course. :D
-
Curses! I called the Store tonight to check on this and the shift manager said normally they don't allow recording devices in store but since I told them it would be for the official website forums they suggested I call Friday and speak with the General Manager as she would have the final OK. So here's hoping she agrees. :D
-
So I called Borders and found out the policy for signings. They don't require you to buy the book there to get it signed, but you must bring your receipt if you already have the book since they will be selling it. So I can get the book day of release at my local Borders and have it signed at the Lee's Summit one. :)
-
So bad news guys, the store says that since al their products are copy-righted material they cannot allow recording devices in-store without special exemption from their corporate office. They said it is something they can normally only allow for news crews. :(
-
This might have been one of those situations where it was better to seek forgiveness than ask permission. ;)
-
I think I might be going to this signing...
-
Should we all wear name tags or something? ;D
-
Should we all wear name tags or something? ;D
Yes, Splattercon style!
-
Should we all wear name tags or something? ;D
Oh, I think you'll find us. We'll be in the circle being given the evil eye by store management. :D
-
I want to go, but its on a Monday. I have to work that night. :-\
-
This is the very reason for the existance of vacation time. If not that, at least get too ill to work but mysteriously healthy enough to attend the signing. ;) :P

I do that every year for my summer camp I work at. Don't think I can get away with it for everything though. ;D

I will pout if I don't see you when I am in town... :P
Hmm, sexy pout or sad pout? ;D
-
Hmm, fair question. I was thinking sad pout. But, in order for you to feel like you're missing something, I'll attempt a sexy pout. ;)
AND, to have even more of an impact, I'll convince Aine to pout sexily as well. :-*
-
Hmm, it does appear that you have me figured out. :P
-
It would probably have more of an impact, Bookie, if we agreed to make out.

YES! And welcome back, SM!
-
Thanks Shecky, its good to be back.
-
Wait...you aren't considering those the pancakes you owe me, right?
Right?
;)
-
You never specified whether or not they had to be edible pancakes. ;D
-
Bookie and I are planning on staying at the La Quinta hotel in Blue Springs. It is where we stayed last year for the...er *coughs* Incident. ;)
Reasonable rooms, good rates, decent breakfasts. Well, not that we *need* breakfast as Mystic will be providing us with pancakes.

And, ya know, 'cause Aine's hot :-*

Excellent!! Yay for pancakes!!
-
Drop off a few pancakes in the Henge while you're at it, will you? :D

Fortunately, pancakes are one of the few things I actually can cook. My dad taught me how to make awesome banana pancakes growing up.

This thread has been...flap-jacked.
Oh yeah, I so went there. ;)

And grits? I just assume - Kentucky and all. :P
-
Actually, I do not like grits at all... I am an embarrassment to my family :P
-
I tried them once - they were not stellar.
-
I'm iffy on grits. I only seem to like them at the trashier joints (ie Waffle House) rather than the nicer restaurants. Dunno why that is.
And BL, I tend to be a purist with pancakes as well, but sometimes I just gotta have my 'nanner cakes. They're the only thing I ever put with them other than syrup.
-
Yes! Got my room and placing my order for pancakes as well.
Actually, I'm more of an omelet girl. Can you do those?

Hey, if it makes you feel better, the offer to leave KC to spend a couple of nights at the Crescent in Eureka Springs is still open.
Sure you don'wanna? Haunted hotel with spa package. Hard to beat.
-
I'm still not even sure I'll be able to make the actual signing due to work. Sometimes it sucks to be dependent on a paycheck.

Or having 2 toddlers......i haven't been to a signing/reading for last few of Jim's books.
-
Hey Chelle! Glad to see you're coming. What's your schedule?
Oh that reminds me, I gotta check rental cars vs. cab to the hotel...
-
If it helps, Yellow Cab has gone up to something around 3 bucks to start and close to $2.50 a mile after that. From airport? To general area of hotel? The airport is way up here in the northland, you're looking at just around 15 miles from airport to downtown.

If your hotel is in the downtown-ish area, and you are looking to then go from Downtown Kansas City to the book signing, I would highly recommend leaving early. Like, pre-rush-hour early. Because you'll be going through the Grandview Triangle to get to the Chipman shopping center. And the Triangle is bad in rush hour.
On the plus side, there's plenty of places to kill time at in the shopping center until the signing.
Speaking of which, having not been to one of these before, is there a recommended time to arrive? So that one isn't stuck outside due to lines or some such, that is.

Usually he does a Q&A before he starts signing anything so there isn't a line when you first get there, The line only starts after he gets tired of answering all our questions. :P

Again, never been to one. :P
So, presumably, the 7pm time is the start of the Q&A, then?
-
Correct, although a bunch of us will prolly be there early to
cause trouble, er help set up and get a nice comfy spot. ;D

Yep, last time I was there I rented a car, but I wanted to have one handy for driving around town. Now if I wanna get around town, I can probably just bug Themo or Mystic to drive me. ;D
I talked to the folks at the LaQuinta, and they said their shuttle driver can do airport runs, but I have to call and talk to someone specific to try to set it up. So, we'll see.

I've been to 2 different kinds. In one kind, they handed out wristbands or tickets based on your arrival time, and that's how you lined up. In the other, there wasn't any kind of Q&A - you just meandered in and formed a line.
I recommend calling the store and asking them what their process will be. For example, for one of the signings I went to last year, we went to the store at 10 am and picked up our wristbands, to make sure we'd be in the first group.
Either way, though, I recommend getting there around an hour early. First, you will get a better seat for the Q&A. Second, as Mystic pointed out, you will get to meet and mingle with folks... assuming you don't mind hanging out with some happily geekily obnoxious people. ;)
For the record, we have been huffed at by store personnel, but we have never been thrown out of a signing.
-
All the ones I've been to here in KC have been the Q&A kind, so I just assumed it would be this time as well.
-
The one last year in Independence turned into a Q&A at the end, but only because some rabble-rousers hung around and kept pestering him.
*whistles innocently*

Oh that's right, I missed the signing I just got to go to the after thingy. I had forgotten about that.

I've been calling it a snugglepile, but what's in a name? A cuddle pile by any other name is still a cuddle pile... lots of people stacked up on and curled around each other. ;)
Are there plans for an 'after thingy' this year?
Most definitely for the forum folks (and anyone else crazy enough to join). Don't know if we'll get Jim to join again...
*begins to plot*
And with that thought, I have to head home for dinner...
-
An..."after thingy"?
What is this "after thingy" you speak of? ???
-
Last year after the signing we met with Jim and had dinner and our own private Q&A session. It was primarily board members only, although there were some of Bob and his wife's friends there as well.
-
An..."after thingy"?

But even if you *just* get to hang out with forum peoples, it's still pretty epic.
-
Well I'd love to join in and meet some of the board members, if there definately is a meet-up planned just let me know.
-
But even if you *just* get to hang out with forum peoples, it's still pretty epic.
Indeed, but...A chance to dine with Jim!
That's all kinds of epic! I know myself and two friends would love a shot at that.
Looks like I probably ought to give that Borders a call, and check their policies on some stuff.
...Like if you need to buy a copy of the book to be there. :P
(I've got all the others in paperback because it's cheaper. Which is especially important right now.)
But yes, that sounds fun no matter what.

No, you don't need to buy a copy there. But if you bring a copy of Changes, bring your receipt with you. They require it since they'll be selling it too.

Okay - the SplatterCon name tage idea is awsome! I have a color printer and a bunch of stick on name tags - email me to let me know who wants one (while supplies last) ;D
Seriously - I live and work in Lee's Summit and am so excited! I've hooked my kids on the Dresden files, my husband is a Codex Alera fan so the whole family will be out! It will be great to see everyone from the boards.
P.S. - Right now White Knight is on clearance for $5.99 if you haven't gotten it already.
Hope to see you all there!
-
Yes. I'd like mine to say:
"HI! I'm...
A Rabble Rouser."
-
Mine could say;
Hi I'm, ...
A Batty Bookworm.
:D
-
So do we want to meet up before hand, and eat lunch and talk before descending on the unsuspecting bookstore?
-
So do we want to meet up before hand, and eat lunch and talk before descending on the unsuspecting bookstore?
I'm not against meeting, even though I'm not terribly familiar with most of you people (my fault, really). ;) :P
Though, wouldn't it be supper, not lunch?
I would note that while I'd likely be very schedule-open (being jobless does that :(), my two friends (non forum-goers) might not be as free.
Any particular place you were thinking? There's a lot of eating joints right near the Borders there.
-
I figured we could meet pre-signing, mid-afternoon, so it leaves us plenty of time to talk and get to the store at a decent time. We can always, of course still go out afterwards. Would you like to make some suggestions on restraunts, since you are probably more familiar than I am with what is over there?

And I've come up with an idea for getting Jim to go out with us after (or before!) the signing... Aine and Themo need to plant the idea when they're in Houston! Since they've already dined with Jim once, and probably will again in Houston, they should be able to start weilding some influence! ;D

Well...bit of research tells me the Chipman Shopping Center has the following restaurants: Bob Evans, Buffalo Wild Wings, Chili's, Custard's Last Stand, Jason's Deli, Longhorn Steakhouse, On the Border, Panda Express, Planet Sub, Spin! Neapolitan Pizza, Starbucks, and Subway.
Info found here. (http://www.summitwoodsshopping.com/stores.asp)
I'm a pretty open eater, though obviously some of those will be better than others for sitting down and chatting, Jim or no Jim.
-
It doesn't make alot of difference to me where we meet up if we do a meal together but preferably someplace where it is possible to have a conversation. Longhorn or Chili's sounds good to me. I think Buffalo Wild Wings may be a bit noisier than we want.
-

Longhorn might be pricier. Chili's would work; I've heard On the Border is decent Mexican, and makes great chips.
You're right about BWW, though. That one, at least, tends to be very loud.
Again, I'm not sure if I can 100% commit, but I'm open, both to the idea, and in general with schedule.
-
While I haven't been to that specific one, Jason's Deli is very nice. Lot's of food choices including a salad bar, and they have tables that can be put together for larger groups. Also it's quieter so you can talk.
Here's a link to the menu, I'm not sure if it will work since it's pdf.

I haven't been to that one either. I suppose I could "scout it out" a couple days ahead of time, or something, if people want me to. Though part of me would prefer to not spend too much extra money on food. For obvious reasons. ;)
That all said. Any proposals for time? We have a small list of places, now we just need times. As well, are people thinking of going somewhere afterward, whether or not Jim is in tow (the aforementioned "after thingy")?
-
Lunch is looking iffy for me. The babysitter aka grandma, has to work after all. The earliest I'm looking at is I can be there around four pm. What time was it we were looking at for presign hookup?
-
I would recommend getting to the bookstore by 6, maybe even 5:30.
Do we want to meet for a 'late lunch'? 2:30 or 3ish?
-
I could maybe wrangle 3pm. My mother's filling in for someone else, so if she leaves a little early no one will complain.
So now the question is which place?
My vote is Jason's Deli, they have some cheeper options like half sandwiches and soups. Plus free gingerbread muffins and icecream ;D Did I mention really tasty food. At least, the two different ones I've been to both were good.
-
Is it smoke-free? I know Aine has a pretty serious allergic reaction to smoke.
I am open to pretty much anything, as long as it's not too exotic foodwise. I am not adventurous when it comes to food. :-[
-
I can't remember if Lee's Summit is a smoke free city or not. Most of them around here are.
-
I called, they are smoke free.
-
Sounds good to me, then.
-
Again, pretty open right now.
I admit some reluctance, just due to...how to word this. I'm a bit of a shy person, and in some ways, meeting people from the internet has a bit of awkwardness to it. ;)
But. Not saying I won't. Will there be some sort of "signal" or something? As in, some way for those of us lacking pictures to find the "designated table"?
Also, any word on doing something after the signing? Some mentioned Jim coming; any word on the likelihood of that? The meeting, and Jim appearing?
-

Look for guys in kilts.

...That's one way to spot everyone. :P

What can I say, we like to make it easy. ;D

Hmm... Sounds good to me but sadly I don't think I can fit into me kilt anymore :(

Themo and I both have Utilikilts.

I offer myself up as a signal. Just look for the red hair. Trust me, you can't miss it :D

I completely understand your hesitance. Several of us said the same thing before we met last year. After about 12 seconds, all that went away.
We will definitely do something after the signing; whether or not Jim will be there is probably something that we won't know until it happens or doesn't.
I offer myself up as a signal. Just look for the red hair. Trust me, you can't miss it :D
You and Themo! Although, he doesn't have much hair... :P
Aine, Themo and I will be together (and maybe Mystic?) and probably being obnoxious loud talking enthusiastically.
Here is one of the pics from Independence last year, with identifiers:

Anywho. As I've said, at the event itself, I'll have my roommate and another friend attending (assuming all schedules work out nicely, etc. etc.). They might come to an after-event, especially if Jim is convinced to go. But I'd be the only one at the pre-event bit. I might just sidle in and sit down to talk, and not worry about buying food. >.>
So. If I understand, the afternoon shindig is at 3pm, and it's recommended that everyone try to get to the store between 5:30 and 6pm?

S'okay I'm 26. But just think by the time the series is done we'll be 37-40 depending on how long the BAT takes. :D
-
I'll be wearing my new SplatterCon!!! t-shirt, got it just in time for the signing!
BTW - Jason's Deli is within walking distance to Borders so that's a great place to meet.
-
Nothing to worry about being young, just means you can run rings around the old fogey's like Themo.

As someone who works at this Borders, and has been petitioning and pushing for this signing for over a year, I'm ridiculously excited that this is finally going down! I'm working on what's usually my day off, just so I can help run the event! I can't wait to see how many people show up, we've been getting calls from people driving and flying in from all over the place, this is going to be huge. Apparently, they'll be handing out wristbands starting as soon as we open, just like we do with the big book releases. I found out today that I get to be the "pusher," which means I'm the guy at the front of the line, prepping the books and finding out how everyone wants their books signed/personalized and handing them to our favorite author for the signing. I'm hoping I don't fanboy out too much, being the person who'll be most closely interacting with him, heh.
Speaking of signing, I'm wondering if it's cool to have him sign my advanced reader copy of Turn Coat? Unlike everything else I have just in mass market paperback, the advanced reader's unique, so I thought it'd be cool to have that signed, but since it's something that was a free copy of it, I didn't know if that'd be frowned upon? If that's frowned upon, I'll have to break my pattern and pick up a copy of Changes. (But I like having everything the same, and having one hard cover and all the rest paperback just messes with me, heh.)
Anyway, I don't know anything about a Q&A session. I've heard that the plan is for him to do a reading first, and then a signing, beyond that I'm not sure what he'll be up for or planning on. If there are any plans for afterward, I'd love to know! I get off at 9, which is probably around the time everything with the event itself will be wrapping up, and my wife already knows I'm going to be doing stuff for this, so I'll be free to partake if I'm welcome (since I'm not exactly a regular in this scene or anything, don't want to go inviting myself along, heh.)
-
What purpose will the wrist bands serve? I'm guessing he'll sign only 1 book?
-
Usually for Jim, a "reading" turns into a Q&A. I don't think I've ever heard him actually read his books. And we're a friendly group, you're welcome along to what ever we end up doing, but I don't know if we know what that is yet. ;)
-
I haven't heard if there's a limit to how much he'll sign, but the wristbands will determine your place in line for how soon you'll get signed. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if they kept you to just one item signed, as much feedback as we've had for this event. Today we got a call from someone from Tulsa, OK checking to make sure we had copies of Changes left because their local store was already sold out. Luckily, they sent us lots and lots of copies to get us ready for Monday, so in case people are planning on picking it up there, we should have plenty, and they should still be pretty well discounted since it was our featured new release for the week.
Also, I'll definitely be looking forward to grabbing food or whatever goes down after the signing. ^_^
-
Hm.
Can 1 person pick up only 1 armband, or can they pick up more? Say, could I procure one for myself, and two for my two friends planning on attending? Or is that outside of kosher.
-
I'm not entirely sure about the protocol on that one. That's something you'd want to call and ask a manager about to be certain.
-
Well to me being in the front of the line isn't as important. The SmFv signing I went to I hung back until the end and got more time to talk to him than if there had been a big line behind me.
BTW, good job Hida Man :D
-
As someone who works at this Borders, and has been petitioning and pushing for this signing for over a year, I'm ridiculously excited that this is finally going down!

I may not be going to that signing, but I have to say that your advance info (e.g., wristbands) is a VERY nice thing to give to the fans who'll be in attendance. My hat's off.
-
To add to what Hida Man said...
I just got off the phone with a gal at that borders. Couple important bits of info.
1.)He will sign a maximum of 2 books per person.
2.)Wristbands can be acquired at any time, and you can, potentially, get more than 1. In other words, I can get 1 for me, and a couple for friends. They only determine place in line.
3.)She didn't have any estimates on size beyond "I hope it's not overcrowded". She did state there are only about 30 actual seats for this event. So, people who want to sit in a chair should be early.
4.)They have over a hundred copies of Changes in stock. Or rather, they ordered 100-150 extra. Something like that.
So. Gives us a pretty good tactical picture of the situation, as it were.
I plan to coordinate with my two friends this weekend. I also foresee likely being at the "mid-afternoon lunch" thing, whether I eat or not. Possibly also going afterwards for food.
Though laura118b has a good point about being further back and actually getting to say more than 2 words to him.
-
When we went to the signing in Independence last year, we deliberately waited until the end to be able to talk with him.
Also, some friends and I went to Lexington we did the same thing, since we had a big group and wanted to get pictures and stuff.
Based on what Hida Man said, and what KD got from the other person, do we need to get their earlier?
At all 3 signings I was at last year, the stores all say that they will limit what Jim signs. They didn't, though. If they do, what I've heard is that you can go back through the line a second time to get more (they limit because they want to keep the line moving).
-
I'm of the mind to get there at least half an hour beforehand, to be able to sit down. I'm not disabled or something, but I prefer sitting on a chair.
However. Maybe we could ask if we could wait to get our bands until later, to get closer to the end of the line.
You know, game the system.
-
I can't imagine the store caring if we want to wait until the end. I would guess unless we interfere with closing they would be happy if the people who want more time wait to get it.
-
I mentioned my self-made wizard's staff in another thread and I am actually in the process of making a new one, should I bring it with or is that a little too geeky?
-
No such thing as too geeky. You're amongst geek-family here. :)
-
Sorry to keep spamming the thread, but I'm a planning freak.
So.
Meet at Jason's Deli there in the complex at 3 that afternoon? Chat for a while, go scout out some seats, enjoy the reading/discussion, wait to get in line until later on, maybe go out afterward (to where?), possibly with Jim in tow?
Do I have the up and down of it?

I believe so yes.
-
That sounds right!
Also, we're making name tags with forum name and pictures, for everyone who's said they're coming!!
-
YOu peeps are going to have your own mini-convention going by the time next year rolls around! I'm so jealous!!
-
*snuggleglomps MSD*
We'll have to find a way for you to join us next time!!
-
We'll see.
-

We'll find some way of smuggling you up here. ;D
-
*nods*
We can plot...
<.<
>.>
::)
-
In the meantime, I'm devising my get up to actually look like Murphy's Stunt Double.
-
Gee, that will be sooooooo difficult :P
-
hehhehheh -
I guess the big question is... do you have to have a license to carry a real gun in MO?
-
Well you need a Concealed Carry Permit. ;D Or carry it openly. ;)
-
We'll see.
It's convenient that you'd fit in a suitcase. :D
-
It wuoldn't do much for the effect of the costume if I concealed it!
-
oooh I forgot my name tag. If it's not too late I'd like mine to say Hello my name is Instigator. ;D
-
Is there something you'd like for us to use as your avatar?
-
hehhehheh -
I guess the big question is... do you have to have a license to carry a real gun in MO?
The state has an open carry law but there are often local ordinances that can conflict. So you'd have to dig further and see if KC has local ordinances, which means you'd probably have to contact a KCPD station and ask.
-
k, thx
-
Slight change of plans - I will be there at Jason's Deli but I'll have to bring the nametags and a few sharpies with me. Printer has been hexed into oblivion. Looking forward to meeting everyone!
Hello I'm
A Book Wyrm ;p
-
Ok, I'm outing myself. I'm a lurker who's planning on being there tomorrow, despite the drive. (Time away from the peeps? Long drive by myself? Going to a book signing? Oh yeah, totally worth it!) If you don't mind this random person crashing your party and all, I'll try to make it to Jason's Deli in time--how late do y'all think you'll be there?
I'll probably be wearing my old "Splinter's Dojo" shirt. And my nametag: Hello! I'm not the droid you're looking for.
-
I'm sure they'll be glad to have you, YediJoda! Plan on it. And have fun!
-
Hey folks!
I'll be there and if it's okay, can I arrive late at the Jason's Deli chat-and-munch? I get off work at 4PM and from the I-435 & Metcalf area, I'm probably 30 minutes away from the Chipman Road area (at that time of day).
You can't miss me. I'll be the one with the backpack full of pepper spray, a blackjack sap, and a pocketful of zip ties. I'll get us those front row seats. ;)
It sounds like a great time!
Hope to see everyone there!
-
We'll be sure to send someone over to the store to camp out. We stopped in this morning to get wrist bands and the area for the signing is quite tiny.
Can't wait to meet you all. :D ;D
-
I talked to Chuck on the phone, and he said unless you're buying a book and don't care if you're at the end, a wristband shouldn't be needed. So MidaMan, I hope Chuck knows what he's talking about :D
-
That seems consistent with what has happened at other signings. The wristbands just help them group people in line.
Bludrose - if you haven't already, no need to worry about the name tags, we bought some as well. We're actually trying to print out people's forum avatars to go on them.
*shakes fist and curses the sticky paper*
-
I'm not worried about a pic, but if you haven't done mine and want something, some sort of rubber ducky clipart would work. :)
Adding
Sticky paper and printers sound like a good idea, but I'm sure never more so than to the printer manufacturers and their newer models when yours is an unholy mess. :D
-
Whew glad you have the nametags covered. I was afraid to let everyone down :)
-
I'm at Jason's Deli, right in front of the door wearing all black and a kilt. Aine and them should be here soon too. C'mon out! :)
-
Should be there around 4:30, if you're all still gonna be there.
I'm wearing a pale green shirt and jeans. The shirt looks like it oughta be a bowling shirt. Don't ask me why...I'm style-challenged. ;)
-
Leaving in 10 or so minutes. Call it 3:30 when I get there.
I'll have blue jeans and a Batman shirt on. My picture's a few pages back, you do the rest. ;)
-
Looks like most of us are here at the deli, headed over to the bookstore in a few minutes.
-
Well that was fun. Jim pretty much confimed my suspicion that he was writing Mouse to be what his little dog Doombringer thinks he is :-) Apparently no one had ever mentioned to Jim the typo in Full Moon where Dresden explains to the demon Chauncy that he has his names because his father was a "stage musician" instead of "stage magician" - Maybe it will finally get fixed in the next printing.
-
Good meeting as many of you as I met tonight. And sorry for those of you that I didn't meet. ;)
Also, I feel I owe the city of Lee's Summit my sincere apologies for having to suffer through my singing. Next time we play Munchkin Cthulhu, let someone win who has a decent singing voice. ;)
And kudos to Jim, who was still signing books, even though he had to get an ice pack for his signing wrist...and that while the line was still snaking halfway through the bookstore.
-
"Dancing Chthulu" has been stuck in my head all night now :D And your voice was fine. It's not like it was opera or anything.
-
Took me a couple of tries before I could figure out both the melody and the rhythm they were going for.
It's funny you mention opera...I was getting ready to do an opera diva version if you'd asked me to sing it one more time. ;)
-
It was a lot of fun seeing and meeting everyone that I did at the signing last night! Hopefully I'll figure out where to post some of the photos I took :)
-
Yeah Jim was in top form last night. It was great to meet all the forum members that where there. Though the IHOP pancakes didn't sit too well with me.

Hope you recover from the pancakes soon.
And it was great fun all around! :)
-
Did anybody get pics of that guy who was there in full platemail?
-
I would also like to thank the awesome people at Borders. They totally went above and beyond. What a great time that was!
-

But hey, singing allowed you to win the game, so it was worth it right? ;D
-
I'd also like to say it was definitely fun meeting all of you forum peoples. Thanks for making me feel welcome in the group!
-
But hey, singing allowed you to win the game, so it was worth it right? ;D
I'll leave that for you to decide. WAS it worth having to listen to me warble?
If everyone is *really* interested in hearing me sing, you ought to come to one of our shows. I'm part of our local community theatre...
(*ahem* Actually, I'm ~President~...which is to say that I moved too slowly when the last President sapped me with the blackjack and dragged me into office)
...and we're putting on the musical, "Annie". I may or may not actually *land* a part in the show (sometimes it's *not* always good to be the King), but if I do, I'll post the info somewhere hereabouts.
I tell you all this so you know how lucky you are. I *could've* broken into "Tomorrow"... ::)
-
Aine I still feel horrible about forgetting to hit record on your camcorder. Knight that was the second time I've ate at an IHOP and can't say I'm too impressed. All we have is Denny's but you really can't frak up scrambled eggs or fried bacon.
-

Hm.
I felt fine afterward/today. *Shrugs*
I know there's a Denny's not too far from that IHOP, but I don't recall how late they're open, or if they're open at all. That late on a weeknight, we're strapped for options. :-\
-
To me the food wasn't really the big thing. Just fun going out and talking about books with folks.
-

I feel a little sad we missed one of Jim's official poses and 'browings, but there were plenty of witnesses there who I am sure will testify to the important part. (For the people who missed it, we were trying to get the fact that you don't have to have sex in order to get Whampire protection all officially on tape and stuff, 'cause you just know someone is gonna argue about it. ;) )
-
I'm not sure what the pose, or 'browning was - but there's a chance that I might have captured some of that on the camera?
-
Bah, finally have a chance to post. Well I must say it was great to meet everyone and if I was a bit of lurker and not much of a conversationalist... Well it's how I am :D Had tons of fun playing Munchkin with everyone it's been at least 2 or 3 years since I played last. I must say I am saddened to have my theory of the temple dog/foo dog distinction killed, however when I had him sign my books he confirmed a tidbit about the Blackstaff. The Blackstaff functions as a buffer or filter that catches and absorbs/eats the taint of the black magic while powering itself off the soul of the user. It is, as described in the book, a living thing and practically sentient. The tendrils advancing into and up the user's arm are more aggressive and hostile rather than pulling out the taint. Woot.
-

So that's why you kept drooling when talking to us. :P Glad to meet you WizH, it was a fun night.

Huh... Err, I know not of which you speak... >.> Lol...

Also, I stole the answer to the question you ask Jim about the blackstaff and posted it over in another thread where there was alot of blackstaff speculation.
http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,17124.msg776981.html#new
Such a juicy tidbit of info needed to be shared. ;D
-
Glad to see you all made it out alive! Did Jim have a chance to join you at the IHOP, or did he learn his lesson well enough last year?? ;) :D
-

He was dirt tired by the end, which was about 10pm. So he went home to go to bed. Which is why it was IHOP; nothing else was open that late close by on a Monday night.
Maybe next time. >_>
-

Well, you see...Jim does sort of a Superman type pose, hands on hips (and usually a big cheesy smile). And the 'browing is with one brow lifted, much like the pictures in the back of the book. Did you get any of those? Also, you can post pics in the "Pictures of Jim on tour" thread: http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,2935.330.html

Well I've probably the ultimate lurker LOL with only a few dozen posts in 4 years. It was pretty cool to meet other fans though since I couldn't get anyone to come all the way to KC with me.

I know that I don't have a superman pose, but I'll check to see if I caught any raised eyebrows. Sent you about 14 of you, swords, and what appeared to be the group that had been hanging around most the day there. No clue who anyone was except for you - but probably some of several of the people on this thread :) And if I see any cool shots of Jim, I'll stick them on that other thread.

You took some fabulous pics, BoH. I've got them in my photobucket and I'll put some more in the Pic's thread with some captions. :D Thanks so much for taking them and sending them to me! *squees*

Thank you Aine :) The evening was a lot of fun! I'll take more shots next signing!

It was an awesome night!
I had so much fun meeting everyone, and playing Munchkin/Chthulu was a riot!!
All those pics are awesome, BoH!
I'll get mine up in the next couple of days, along with some that Lionheart sent me. But first, I have to get the Q&A typed up. ;)

Next time around, I'll be a little more snap-happy. That is, assuming I know everyone here better by then :)

You already do know us better! :D
Although, I'm sure you noticed that we really tried to avoid attracting attention.

Jim totally loves us! We had swords and costumes, we asked a lot of questions, and we even helped him tape up his ice pack! We are the awesomest stalkers fans EVAR!
-
I loved meeting everyone and playing Munchkin Chthulu. Too bad about the food at IHOP, but the company was awesome! I can't wait til next time.
-
You already do know us better! :D
Although, I'm sure you noticed that we really tried to avoid attracting attention.
True - every time I read in the forum, I *think* I know everyone better ... although - I could be wrong? :P
And yeah - I wouldn't have noticed all of you, if someone hadn't pointed you out ... and if you hadn't of been wearing clothing that was more in place with characters in the books, rather than mundane Earth people (like myself) .. and if you hadn't of been the more active, and vocal of all the people there ... and ... ;D
-
Exactly. We're a very subtle group.
Well, subtle as compared to a rioting mob. ;)
-
Added for clarification: that rioting mob in the Plaza was *not* us. :D
-
Yeah, we were on the other side of the city. Really! We have witnesses!
-
Witnesses who just received a deposit of a large lump sum in their bank accounts?
-
*crumples up paper behind back*
I don't think there's any evidence of that! 8)
-
That was for a completely unrelated transaction.
-
.. holding hand(s) out for payoff/bribe money .... I'll be a witness to the fact that you weren't in any areas of trouble .... for a price ;D (Hey - I need funds for a Renaissance costume .... lol!)
-

Yes, yes, it was the receipt for... Jim's ice pack! Yeah, that's it!

Not me...since you all GANGED UP ON ME AND TRIED TO KILL ME. :P
I'm not bitter.

I didn't participate in the ganging up on you!! :-*

Well, if there was a fun ganging up, I wasn't privvy to it. :o
-
I have a few weapons to spare from the Munchkin game... ;D
Well, I can't wear *just* weapons .... that wouldn't be ... family friendly? lol!
-
Aw - ganging up is just how we show we care.
Muahahahahahaha.
But I do think there is a way to wear nothing but weapons and still be family friendly.....Adam's Family friendly that is :D
-
Ganging up?
Did *I* do that?
</urkle>
;)
-
Adams Family Friendly .. hmmm - if I'm Gomez - who wants to be my Morticia? ;D
-
I call Themo as Pugsley! I'll be Uncle Fester.
-
I would be a great Morticia. Just look at how I want half the characters in TDF to die. ;)
-

Good point! So you'll be my Morticia? ... you know - there are perks that come with that role ... :P lol!

Only if you can speak French.

I know enough French. :P
See? There's the tongue to prove it.

I loved meeting everyone and playing Munchkin Chthulu.
