I really enjoyed that episode!

- I agree with priscille, we need more Alera in the podcasts!
- Sounds quality was really great.  It sounds like you are getting more comfortable with each podcast!
- I appreciate the news items at the beginning.
- I'd like to put in a vote for Mickey Finn to be the next guest from the forum on the show.  He has done a great job on the forum, and has introduced me to a couple of new series.

(make sure that you listen to the last 30 seconds of the podcast for some blooper goodness)

So do I.  I think once the TV show's first season is done, there'll be enough of a reduction in New Dresden Stuff, so I'm betting we'll start getting some Alera-ness by episode 9 or 10 of the podcast at the latest.

Two things played into this.

One, I got a new microphone that does noise cancellation in the hardware, so I didn't have to process out the background white noise this time around.

Two, this was a direct skype-to-skype conversation instead of skype-to-phone, which always seems to be a little lower quality.

It also helped that Priscellie's got a good voice for podcasting. :)

Good, I'm trying to make sure that the podcast has a "loose" structure of news-then-opinions.

Yep, Mickey's very high on the list.  Priscellie was at the top because she's the one who keeps feeding me the audio captures from the TV show.

I don't put in a blooper reel very often (this is the second one ever), but the ones this time I thought had some genuine comedic value. :)

Got it downloaded but I only got to listen to the first few minutes before I had to leave for work (knew I should have dl'd onto the ipod for work listening...hindsight, oh well).  I have to agree with the sound quality being improved, good hardware is always a worthy investment.  I will look forward to finally putting a voice with a name for Priscellie later today.

I probably worded that strangely.  I meant to say that I enjoyed the news items themselves.

Whether they were at the beginning or at the end does not matter to me, as long as I get my fix.  :-)

Another great episode! It's good to see that we have some Alera love coming soon. I just got my gf to finally read the codex after re-reading it to be able to discuss. While I am thrilled to have White Knight and the show to talk about I want more Alera! December seems like way too far away...

It was great to have a voice to associate with Pricellie, and I am green with nerd-envy!
On thing about her audio: I was picking up a weird pre-echo on her words, like she was speaking from the other side in Poltergeist. I don't know if it was just a bad phone connection or if it was the software. It's the first time I noticed this in an interview and wanted to let you know.

All in all, another great episode, I just hope the next episode isn't in another 4 weeks!  :P

It may be three; we've got three episodes left in the TV series, and I think I want to have the first season sewn up in BB008.

Just listened to it late last nite.  Good Episode.  Way to go Priscellie!

You're an internet star now!! I also love the soundclips Fred.  They're one of my fave parts at the beginning each show.

Listened toi it, but for some reason, some of the conversation with Priscellie wasn't so loud -- I had to turn the speakers and sound card all the way up to hear it. Did anyone have the same problem?

Cool as usual. Nice to hear you, Priscellie!

Some of the conversation sounded quiet, around the 33, 34 minute area? I can't find it now.

I'll try to keep an eye/ear on that in the future.  The volume levels fluctuated a bit over the course of conversation, and I tried to adjust where I could.

Just on my side, or your side as well?  If it's just me, it's probably because I was holding the dinky little microphone up to my face, and I may have been moving it closer and further away over the course of the conversation.  I'll have to be more aware of that when we do the Timeline 'cast.

Anyway, I have to say, I'm so glad we did this yesterday.  The tingling in my throat yesterday morning has evolved into a full-blown cold.  I'm more than slightly miserable. :D

Ahhh, the holding the microphone thing explains some of the breath noise bits.

I think the problem was mostly on your end, but I had a few changed-my-position bits as well.  I try to stay in the same relative distance with my new mic, but it's something that sits on a stand, and my old setup was headset based, so I haven't developed the right habits yet. :)

Sorry to hear about the sick!  You're right about the timing, but get well all the same!

I'll have to download this to listen to it this weekend (my car has too much road noise to listen to it on the crap FM transmitter from my ipodesque Sandisk).

Re tagging me for a future show: While I worked at the college radio station and have done voiceovers, I have no idea how I'd interview on the other side of the mic, as that's not a 'radio-voice' type thing. This...might be an experience. I tend to free-associate and go off on popculture tangents worse than a Gilmore. My apologies in advance if you have to do more editing than normal, Fred. ;)

I know little about Skype, having no use for it...is it possible for me to download it to my machine (Vista or XP sp2) and recieve calls without subscribing? If it helps with the sound quality, I'll do it.

Fred is teh evil.

So, after listening to the latest Butcher Block we all know that Fred is aware of the title of the 5th Alera book. The title apparently contains massive spoilers because he won't share it us.

Possible spoilers ahead.

Could it be because the 5th title is Princeps Fury?

The last few titles have given us an insight into Tavi's current positions

Academ's Fury he was of course an Academ at the academy.
Cursor's Fury he is already a Cursor.
Captain's fury I'm assuming he will continue to be the captain of the First Aleran.

The next logical step in the story line is for him to take up his rightful position as Princeps, so why not Princeps Fury?

It'll sure surprise the fans when Tavi loses all his status in the next novel and the fifth book is titled "Random Titleless Yobbo's Fury."

I enjoyed the episode.  The volume did waver in and out, which made me turn up the volume. Only problem with that was when Priscellie brought the mic up close the the jump in volume nearly shattered my ear drums.

Of course when I use a mic I do the same thing...so hard to keep the hand held ones still, especially when you talk with your hands.

I just finished downloading all the Podcasts from 0 to 7 and I must say that there is definite improvement as they go along.  On the last 'cast, I had to adjust the audio quite a bit to hear your guest and when you would ask a question, it was too loud.  I think you might want to use some auto leveling when copying over the podcast or re-recording it. Minor complaint though.

When you started with the first 'cast, it sounded like you were reading everything instead of letting it flow - it's a lot smoother now.  Good job adapting.

Good stuff - keep up the good work.

And if you happen to talk to Mr. Butcher, tell him to forget about Alera and concentrate on Dresden (I just can't get into the Alera books.  :>)

Yeah, I could have handled the leveling better, and I've got a solution in place for dealing with it from here on forward.  Thanks for the feedback!

I'm not likely to tell him that, since I'm a fan of him being able to feed his family. ;)

I've really been enjoying the podcasts, Iago...or should I say, Fred...;)
It was really great to hear the "Industrious Gnome" (Priscilla...hope I got that right), too.  (Thank you for the timeline on the forum, I'm greatful).  As for future podcasts, how about a discussion about "White Night"?  Complete with spoiler warnings, of course, but just blow the whole thing open.  Kinda like "The Signal" did a few weeks after "Serenity" came out.  I'd like to hear (and not just read) about reactions to the story development.  And an interview with any of the TV series' actors would be great.
Thank you for such a fun and engaging podcast as well as a terriffic forum where Jim Butcher fans, old and new can hang out and talk and discuss and have fun.
But my big question: when's the next episode of the podcast????? :)
