We are starting city creation for Honolulu, HI - the campaign will start in the city, but will spread o the other islands over the course of time. Two of the five of us have gotten into the rules and played enough understand it pretty well - we would be the 'experts' of the group - but still novices compared to you all on the boards here.  We have all read at least some of the books, all but one has read them all.  So I am asking for help and advice - how does this look and what would you change?

Here is what we have so far:

City Theme:An Island surrounded by 1,000's of miles of water... what could possibly go wrong? Aspect:Naturally Supernaturally Quarantined.
City Theme:'Just Relax - you're on Hawaiian time.  No Problems brother!'  Aspect:Aloha and Mahalo!
City Threat:The Old and the New are using the islands in their Machinations. Aspect:The Old and the New,like oil and water.

Supernatural Status Quo:  Since Hawaii became a territory of the US the old Gods and their ways have been eroded away due to the massive influx of outside influences.  This has brought the White Court to the islands in the midst of the Old Gods being forgotten and 2 Fae Courts that are unique to the region, a Water and Land Court.  Throw in a bunch of restless spirts and ghosts of the Human sacrifices and Wars that have been fought on the island and the fact that the White Council Warden has recently gone missing and is presumed dead and you have the current state of affairs on the islands.

Mundane Status Quo:  The new influx of science, technology, drugs, and tourism are quickly becoming the 'New Gods' of the islands, and in some areas they already are.  Tourism is everything and a mainstay for many living on the islands and they will do anything to maintain their way of life by polishing - or hiding the darker side of island life.  There is quite an Asian influence as well.

Some Locations we were thinking about:
Pearl Harbor - Restless Spirits
Pali Lookout - Ley Line Nexus?
Waimea Bay - Hangout for Weresharks
Wiakiki Beach - White Court Home Base
The Hawaiian Royal Palace - Base of Old Power
Mauna Kea Observatory - 'New Gods' of science and tech
National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific - More Ghosts?
Polynesian Cultural Center - ANG for the islands

Instead of the traditional Fey courts of the seasons we were thinking of maybe a Water and Land court - or maybe four based on the four elements.

So what do you all think?

DFRPG / How to enchant a weapon? Not a Warden's sword!
« on: July 18, 2011, 08:44:47 PM »
My character picked up a Cival War Calvary Saber during an adventure, which would be a weapon 2.  Now my question is this - could he enchant it to be a more powerful sword?  He is just starting out as a wizard with a Lore of 4 and Thaumaturgy specialization of crafting with frequency +1.  Could he enchant it to be a weapon 6 2x day?  His Lore of 4 would be added to the weapon 2 - is that right?

DFRPG / Need help designing an enchanted weapon, please
« on: July 15, 2011, 05:53:31 AM »
I am going to be playing a wizard in an up coming game, submerged 10 refresh, who Cast Earth, Air, and Water magic.  He was originally from the Bayou of Louisiana.  His Thaumaturgy bonus is in crafting frequncy (+1).  I want an item that is an gator skin item, that kind of relates to a gators abilities some how.

Some of their abilities are: they can stay under water - not breathing underwater - for up to 2 hours, they have a land speed of up to 30 mph in short bursts and can run a man down, they also have the strongest jaws of any animal ( I believe), and they have tough hides - so maybe armor.

Yes, I have just discovered the History Channel series 'Swamp People' on Netflix and it inspired me for a new character.

Any ideas an help would be appreciated.

« on: July 12, 2011, 12:30:53 AM »

DFRPG / Help I have a Fate point hoarder?
« on: July 11, 2011, 11:53:30 PM »
I need help/ suggestions for a wizard character who does everything he can not to spend Fate Points.  We have all tried to convince him that they are currency and met to be spent, but he will not spend them.  the group is great at making asspects available for others to tag for free and he will always use these, but he will not spend points to use his aspects.  How can I get him to see the light as far as Fate Points go?

DFRPG / Question on Enchanted Items
« on: July 11, 2011, 11:35:02 PM »
Just want to be clear on the rules.  An enchanted item cannot boost skills or rolls can they, that would be a focus item right?  I want somethng that would boost my defensive magic vs outsiders, and I was looking at the example of Madges Ring in 'Your Story'.

DFRPG / Sisterhood of the Waves Question (I think)
« on: July 02, 2011, 05:34:54 PM »
A while ago there was a thread someone had posted about a group of weresharks, I don't know who posted it, but I would like to use the idea in a new adventure I am playing.  It had a link to story of the wereshark leader, but I can't find it.  I was just wondering it I could get the story to use as background for my adventure.  Can anyone help?

DFRPG / FATE system in the 'Verse
« on: May 25, 2011, 09:56:32 PM »
I know that other venues for the Fate system have been used.  Has anyone used the Fate to play in the Firefly TV series and Serenity movie universe.  I think Dresden Files might be a little much for it, but Spirit of the Century might work well with it.

Are there any Browncoats out there that are willing to help take a stab at stating the crew of Serenity?  I have been thinking on it some but have nothing concrete yet.

(I apologize if this is not the place for it in the forums, I just did not know where to put it.)

DFRPG / Help with an enchanted item for a character
« on: May 15, 2011, 04:57:38 PM »
OK, one of my characters is a minor practioner who uses music as his medium.  He has a lot of enchanted music instruments and focus items.  We played an adventure last night and he asked about an enchanted guitar case to hold all his items and equipment in.  He had tried to make something but was not sure and in the middle of the game I was not going to stop and try to build magic items.  It was not and will not be a huge plot device to any story so I let him use it last night.  It really is just a way for him to justify carring all this around with him.

So my question is - how would you stat something up like this?  He and I quickly decided on an item that has the Aspect 'Bigger than it Looks' on it and just say the it is big enough to hold his 4-5 instruments and some focus items.  But given time and following the rules as written, how would one do this?

DFRPG / Question on WC Feeding
« on: May 13, 2011, 12:25:44 AM »
So I think this might have been answered on a thread somewhere, but I cannot find it now.

When a WC Vamp incites emotion and feeds (I believe the rules say that they can) with feeding touch does he heal himself?  Because from the description in the book it sounds like he can, and if so how much?

From the book:  (Sorry if I am not suppose to qoute from the books directly, not sure of the protocol.)

"Feeding Touch. Physical contact is where it’s at for a satisfying, long-term meal. When a victim is in the throes of an eligible emotion (usually easy for a White Court vampire using his Incite Emotion ability, page 172), you may draw some of his life force out of him to sustain you. This is done as a psychological attack with an appropriate skill (usually Deceit or Intimidation). If you have the Incite Emotion ability, inciting the emotion and feeding on it may be done as a single action, based on a single roll. On subsequent exchanges, if the emotion is still in place you may continue to feed, gaining a +1 on the roll.
The Taste of Death. Once per scene, if you inflict enough stress and consequences to kill a victim from feeding, you may take an immediate “free” recovery period equal to an extra scene. This will clear your stress track and mild physical consequences (page 220), and possibly larger consequences if you have an ability that lets you heal quickly (page 184)."

It is spelled out pretty clearly in the when using the ‘taste of death’ he can heal.  I was just wondering because in the novels Thomas feeds to replenish himself, but does not kill the women who come to his salon.  I was thinking it would make sense that one could ‘top off the tank’ so to speak with feeding touch and not kill the victim, but it does not say that in RAW.  So how have others handled this in their games?

I do not have any WC PC in my game, but they will be going up against some in the next few adventures and I need some help.
I just do not think that a WC PC should have to kill every time he feeds and recovers.

DFRPG / Debts for an Emmisary of Death - Help Please!
« on: April 29, 2011, 02:51:52 AM »
In my campaign I have an emissary of Death who recently racked up some debt to her sponsor this last session.  She has come to the realization that Death is going to ask her for some payment soon.

As the GM, and her father, I am at a loss as what to ask her character to do.  The player is 14 years old, and the group's ages range from 14 to 40, so nothing to dark or gruesome please.

Death in this game so far has not made to much of an appearance, but uses his emissaries to help the dying pass on (like a psychopomp of sorts)and not as a supernatural hitman.  But that could change if need be.

Any ideas?

DFRPG / Focus or Enchanted Item ?
« on: April 23, 2011, 04:50:47 PM »
In the game I have been playing in (and now bowed out of, I turned my PC into an NPC) I discovered that I had a family heirloom that helped with defensive magic vs. outsiders.  It was used once in the climax of the adventure.  That is a prety narrow use item, so I was wondering if it should be a focus item or and enchanted item.

My first thought was to base it on Madge's ring in the focus items section of the book.  But if it does not come up as much story wise would it be better to design it as an enchanted item with a fixed number of uses a session?

Any ideas?

DFRPG / Quick Question about the Martial Arts Stunt(s)
« on: April 22, 2011, 09:24:31 PM »
Sorry I do not have my books with me at work, but I seem to recall the Beta (?) PDF saying that the Martial arts stunt was a prereq for other stunts in the Fists section.  But in the book that reference was removed from the stunts in that section so could a character take Armed Arts with out the Martial Arts stunt first?

Can anyone give me any tips or point me to a thread that explain this better?  Thanks.

DFRPG / List of Sample Consequences - Is there one out there?
« on: March 13, 2011, 04:05:51 PM »
I know we are suposed to come up with our own consequences, but I was wondering if anyone has put together a list of sample consequences to use.  We are making them up, but it seems we use the same (or similar) ones over and over again.  I would really like to have some other options.  If anyone has some good ones I would be interested.

I get that by agreement of the Supernatural powers in any given city anyplace could be Neutral Ground, but what does it take to be recognized as Accorded Neutral Ground (ANG)?  I realize it has to have something to do with Mab's approval, and the example in the Baltimore section of the RPG just says that she petitioned Mab for ANG status and it was given.  I also get that it is our city and we can say it happens however we want it to.

We actually had the idea in City Creation to have 2-3 spots that are Neutral Grounds, but not Accorded, and have them 'compete' for the status of getting Mab's approval.  I am sure that she would be vindictive as all get out and make the owners do all kinds of things to get the right to become ANG.

My questions are;  'How feasible is this to do?'  and 'What are some ideas for Mab's reqirements fo becoming ANG?'
