The Bar / Re: Weird? Pretty much.
« on: January 24, 2021, 02:05:12 PM »
That's right. There were only two movies and they didn't do the books justice. I liked the books. They are cute, somehow. Though in the beginning of the first book Latin was meant to be the same as ancient Greek. This annoyed me. But this was the only thing I didn't like. And it was never mentioned again in later books, so I am OK with it. The story was fun to read. I would recommend it. I've also read all the spin off series so far. Or not exactly spin offs, but stories set in the same world but with other pantheons. Magnus Chase with the Norse Gods and The Kane Chronicles with old Egyptian Gods. Though in the Kane Chronicles the protagonists aren't demigods but wizards doing magic with hieroglyphs. The only real spin off is The Trials of Apollo. Apollo is transformed into a human teenage boy with pimples (he is a very vain and arrogant god) by Zeus, as punishment, because of what he did in the Percy Jackson books. This one should be read after the 10 Percy Jackson books.
I think the movies are kind of like some of the Harry Potter movies. If you don't know the books, some actions don't make sense and a lot of things or characters that were cool in the books were not even mentioned in the movies. Like in a lot of movies made from books.

And one more thing. I did enjoy the cakes. We ate for 3 days. Now I have to see that my trousers fit again. All that eating and sitting around doing school stuff is showing now. Sigh.

Sorry about your bidet. I hope it is fixed now. We don't have one. I've never lived in a place with one, but I know people who have one. Mostly our bathrooms in all the homes I lived in, were too small for a bidet anyway. The house my parents moved into when I was in kindergarten had such a small bathroom, that you couldn't open the door completely. The reason for that was, that in the time the house was built (1944), people had their toilets outside and a small bathtub was placed in the kitchen and filled with hot water from the stove. So when the people living there decided to build a real bathroom there wasn't much space in the house to do so. So they went for one small room for the toilet and another for a built-in bathtub and a sink. My parents removed the bathtub and replaced it by a second toilet and a shower. After that, the door could be opened the whole way. As a child I went to my grandmother's home, when I wanted to take a bath. That was cool. I was often there over night. And each time I bathed before going to bed. At least in winter. A good way to get warm again.

For the birthday, the girls and I made a little show with the socks we used for my dad's birthday. We put a staff on two chairbacks, an blanket over it and did the Mahna Mahna song from Sesame Street. He laughed a lot.

Currently I'm rereading Grave Peril. It has been a while. You tend to forget a lot. I wanted to read something different, but couldn't concentrate on it.

My daughter read the first 5 Percy Jackson books over the holidays. The first 3 I have in German, and the other 2 can be read in the online library as the real library is still closed and I'm sure won't be opened until at least midFebruary. Pity they don't have the Heroes of Olympus series online.

Hi, weird!
I couldn't be here so much lately, because I had a lot to do. Work related and school stuff. At the moment I'm sitting with my first grader helping her with maths and reading and writing.
The other one works mostly on her own.

Today it's my husband's birthday. This afternoon we will eat cheesecake. I'll take it out of the fridge myself. ;)

I hope you enjoyed your game Dina. The soup was delicious, but today for some reason one of my coworkers crowded me from behind and I growled at him.. :D
Hopefully it will pass.

As long as you don't scratch him, it should be fine.

Me, too. Thank you, Dina. I've listened to all the links and after that looked for more. Maybe I'll find something like that I can play with the violin alone. That would be nice. I'll keep looking.

Hi, Chiana!

@weird
I have to admit, I've never read or watched anything about Wonder Woman. OK, once I think as a teenager, but I didn't like her, so I turned it off.
I am more fond of Superman and Batman (especially the coloured series Batman and Robin, that was fun, was it from the seventies I think?) and Spiderman. Though even as a child I thought how weird that no one recognized Superman only because he wasn't wearing his costume, had glasses on and his hair parted on the other side, LOL.
We were often making fun of the fact, that I must be a disguised super hero or a super villain, because I wear glasses AND most importantly: my initials are the same letter twice!!! Ha!
That's the clue to recognize them!
How are they all called?

Peter Parker
Clark Kent (OK, only in sound, but that's the most clever disguise, I can tell you)
Lex Luthor
Lois Lane
Dare Devil  ;D
Bruce Batman LOL
Ok. Batman is an exception. That's why he is wearing that big mask, because he doesn't have the protection of his initials.

Also there are some Kids show characters we included in the theory:
Bibi Blocksberg (a teenage witch, I loved that as a kid, had several cassettes)
Benjamin Blümchen (a talking elephant, LOL)
Bastian Balthasar Bux ( Never ending Story). He even has 3 B! Maybe he needed the third B to be able to safe the world of fantasy.

There is a saying here, when someone is doing jokes all day.
I must have swallowed a clown for breakfast. I think I did that today and it tasted delicious.

DF Spoilers / Re: What happened to Carlos Ramirez?
« on: January 10, 2021, 11:49:52 AM »
Ramirez sacrificing himself in becoming the next Winter Knight. Freeing Harry somehow without Harry having to die. If my theory is correct, that only the Knight can be with the Lady. Then him and Molly could be together.

This is just a wish. I'm almost sure it won't happen.

I don't think he would be thrilled by the thorns. Would shredd his duster every time he turned into his demon form.
 ;)

I wonder, if Marcone has stocked up his supply of suits, since he took up the coin.

We agree that dancing tango is fun. I don't know if I am able to just listen.  ;)

Thank you. The cases have increased here, too. So we are in a stricter lockdown until the end of January.

I remember this, but now I am confused. What mantle did Dresden take in FM?
The Hexenwolf belt. Not exactly a mantle, but in a smaller scale one could see it as some kind of mantle to grant him more power. And it influenced it's wearer's personality.

@Dina.
Wow. So you can be proud to work there.

I'll go to work next on Monday. The winter holidays last until the end of the week, so I'm at home now.

There is some snow, but mostly it is cold dirty mud.  ;)
The family was comparing snow fotos today. My cousin's kids actually could build big snowmen and ride their sleighs down the hills. Technically we could have done that, too, but we would have been stuck somewhere halfway and after that would look kind of crusty brown with bits of grass, not crystal white, LOL.

I have counted the ducks. Found 5 of 6. But maybe I just couldn't see the last one.

My mother is in preventive quarantine, because she had contact to an infected person. The old neighbour she is taking care of.  :-\ Don't know how the woman caught the virus, probably from one of the other neighbours helping her, but she is in a coma now. I have the feeling that I won't see her again. She wasn't healthy in the first place. She has been found because she left her door open in the cold. She was found sitting asleep in her armchair with high fever.
My mother has been tested negative but has to stay inside until the end of next week.

DF Spoilers / Re: Dark Hallow Idea...
« on: January 06, 2021, 03:14:37 PM »
Facts
1) Harry Dresden knows how to preform a Dark Hallow
2) To summon up the spirits needed, there has to be a connection.
(The necromancers used a bunch of old relics)
3) People theories Harry will preform a Dark Hallow at some point.
4) There are a bunch of pictures of people who defended Chicago now hurried in a grave.

Thought: What if Harry uses those pictures, and the spirits they might summon up, to preform the Dark Hallow.

Just an idea...

Not sure Harry is quite pragmatic enough to do it yet, though.

More like MirrorHarry not our Harry. If there is that grave with pictures in the mirrorverse, too.

I always thought of Chandler as Peabody's partner from Turn Coat.

@Foxed:
Very interesting. The split of PT/BG was not planned and I think he didn't plan for 12 Months, too. It didn't sound like that.
I was thinking that maybe Mr. Butcher is just playing with us and there will be no 12 Months. Instead there will be a new collection of short stories, all situated in the mentioned 12 months.

So by your theory, the next book (whatever one it will be) could have something to do with rituals, entropy curses and / or White Court Vampires (I have the feeling, there will always be Whamps from now on ;) ). Or with problems within families (Harry's fallout with Ebenezar, Thomas still on the island, the wedding, Lara as new stepmother, maybe Harry having to deal with Murphy's family). Or with true love (Harry's protection) or everything at once.

And probably dealing with Papa Raith one way or another. Maybe Lara finally killing him, because she now has a strong ally with the Winter Court and can openly act as Whampire Queen.
