I love playmobil too. I have a vampire couple on my bedroom cupboard. The female has bat wings. Pretty cool.
It is amazing what funny and detailed things there are today. I love to look for that in the stores. You can get that almost everywhere now. Mostly it is very expensive, but there are small figures in a surprise bag to put together yourself, that are sold for 2€. I buy them as little presents for kids.

And I've heard about Rothfuss, too. I wonder, why I have never read some of his books. They are even in the library.
It's the first of the king killer books. A colleague lent me the book.
That was funny. It was during the nightshift week, when Peace Talks came out. I told him that I was so excited about the book. So he asked what it was. Turned out he likes similar books. So I recommended J. Butcher and he recommended P. Rothfuss.
And he saw my reaction after I went to the fire stairs after midnight to get access to the internet to see, if the book was already there. And it was!!!
I may have expressed my joy in a loud way. 

Maybe I'll just force myself to finish the police book. I have started before Peace Talks, but put it away. It is no high literature. Mostly I don't really like the protagonist's attitude. He is a cynical asshole, but sometimes it is really funny. But I'm not sure I can endure several books or even the one I read now. I fear this is the second time I really prefer the movies to the books. The first one being "The Name Of The Rose" by Umberto Eco. I really tried to read that, I managed about 80 pages I think, but it was sooooo boring for me, sorry, Umberto.

Interesting. I was thinking of Chandler, too. I will have to search the books for him. He is the one Harry calls "Steed", isn't he? Is Dead Beat the first book, where he is present?
But I don't think, he is Cowl. For him I agree with another theory. But this is not the place for that.

First I was thinking of Ramirez, too. Simply because I like him, Harry likes him, and I would be sad, if he was the traitor. I didn't think any further. I just thought of people that would hurt the most.
But Chandler would be the one Harry wouldn't think of at first.
Chandler is in a very good position to sow distrust among the council. He appears calm and trustworthy and polite. People listen to what he has to say.

That's why they would comment on him dressing up properly. He'd get at least one "clean up nicely" comment. At least.

Exactly. That's what I meant. I would have expected at least one comment. But there was nothing. From no one. Weird. Or just edited out because of unimportance.

When I was a kid, my parents had several Apple trees, one cherry and one plum tree. The plum tree I didn't like so much, because there were masses of wasps. I got stung a lot. Once between my toes. That hurt. But I always liked the plums.
On the apples there are wasps, too, but with the plums I think they exaggerate.

There was one apple tree I liked the most. It had very low thick branches, so several children could climb on it without much effort at the same time. And you could put a hammock between the trees.

At first my parents wanted to build a garage for the car and our tools. The lowest branch was in the way. So our beloved tree lost an arm. A few years later it became sick and we had to remove it completely.

Another apple tree was already hollow inside, when we moved there, but it had the best apples and there were birds breeding inside every year. There were two holes in the trunk, the little birds were safe from cats in there. And you could see their mouths open when you looked inside.
This tree almost killed my mother when it fell down suddenly.

Now they have only one apple tree left.

And yes, I can pretend not to be afraid sometimes. If you don't look at me for too long. I only scream when spiders surprise me. As a kid I learnt not to show any fear as the only girl among boys, lol. I didn't want them to put spiders into my bed or in my schoolbag or something. So I pretended to be cool.

While reading I sometimes have difficulties with the background stories. For example in Small Favor. The Three Billy Goats Gruff.
At first: wtf is a gruff?   
And I don't know the story. I looked it up.
But I was interested in the translation, so I asked my friend what it says at that point. And in fact, the 3 Billy Goats Gruff was replaced by a story which is widely known in Germany: the fairytale by Brothers Grimm " Der Wolf und die sieben Geißlein" The Wolf and the Seven goats
There are no bigger brothers and no trolls. There is the wolf who tries to trick mother goat's kids into letting him in while she is gone.
It really doesn't make sense to replace the story, just so that the readers have a tale they know.

And she sent me an excerpt out of Changes, which made her laugh. The part where Harry visits Monoc headquarters. When he sees the finger nails of the receptionists. He decides not to say anything, but his mouth did without the rest of him agreeing. LOL
So I sent her the English part with the comment yes, it is funny, but this will make you laugh even more.
They completely left out the "go go gadget wisdom". But why? We know the series. It was on TV here, when we were children.
But at least the translation isn't wrong, like I read in the Farseer series by Robin Hobb. There is a page where he says that a boy has his father's eyes. In the translation he says the boy has my father's eyes. And this is not the only error. 

But sometimes translation errors are funny. Like when I was reading Dead Beat: the title of the book with poems about the Erlking. Only 4 words and 3 of them wrong. LOL. I thought, omg did no one tell Jim before the book was published? But ok, it isn't that important. Then in Turn Coat it was Peabody's fault and Harry made fun of him.  Made me laugh.

And Dina: I'm watching bees, too. I like them. I always plant lots of flowers and keep the lawn " messy" so that they have enough pollen to collect. Also there a several people in my village who are bee keepers. So if I buy local honey, maybe my garden contributed to it.

Headaches are evil. I have them often. Mostly it is because I feel change in weather. We have that a lot here during summer. Or when I eat to much raw garlic or onions. But then it is my own fault and I choose to live with the consequences. 
Real migraines I don't have very often, and I'm very glad about it. Those, when you can only stay in the dark, every little noise threatens to make your head explode and sometimes it makes you throw up. Good for you that you have found a way to deal with it.

I've been doing a lot of funny things these last days. I've worked a lot during July, so I can stay mostly at home during school holidays. I hope they don't call me, because I'm only at home from the hours I have worked, I'm not on vacation. Those who are just reducing work hours are usually called in first.
So I try to enjoy the time I have.
I'm sitting outside now and waiting for the bats. The sun is almost gone, they will be here any time now.... Ah, damn that was just a sleepy bird... But soon I will see the bats.
The kids are watching Frozen 2. We were in the local open air bath today and yesterday. That's really nice now that you have to announce yourself the evening before. And they only let in 400 people. So it is not crowded as usual without covid. They open from 10-13, then time to disinfect everything and in the afternoon from 14-18.

As I can't read anything else until I've read Battle Ground, I started a read along with a friend who currently reads Changes. But she is faster. I'm still at Turn Coat. We compare the translation. Sometimes it is really good, but sometimes the joke is lost, because you can't translate it into German. Mostly the language based jokes.

And joy: there was the first bat. You have to look at the same spot you saw the first, because the usually have a hunting routine.
