DF Spoilers / Re: Ages of Characters

This may sound sound petty because of all the work you have done, but Murphy was older than Harry

No, because that would have her brought back while living people still remember her.  That rule cannot be broken, even by Odin.

See, I took that as they can't return to the mortal world until everyone that knows her dies. And to me Monoc is in the NN. So that's why I had the thought that she may already be alive.

But hey, if she's still dead, she's still dead. Fine with me.

Plus if it was true love between Harry and Murphy, she will get burned every time she touches him.  That's how it worked when they kissed back in White Night even though it had been three or four years since he had been with Susan.  Now Susan was alive at that point and Murphy is dead, so that might make a difference..

Now THAT is an interesting thought. Mira, I know that you have brought up the point that we have seen true love protection work while both are alive. It took till now for me see this angle if being alive is a prerequisite for the protection to continue.

If both need to continue living, did Odin take Murphy to help the protection continue? I assume she is already brought back and is training back at Monoc.

DF Spoilers / Re: Mortal memory discussion

Saying this in case I wasn't clear. Maybe I was, maybe I wasn't. The Murphy and Hendricks that Harry would come in contact with would be the real Murphy and Hendricks, not fake constructs made by the bad person. They would have to play along with the rules of the mind, but guide Harry to figuring everything out.

As I said, the idea behind the this was from a possible rumored book. And with Murphy now gone, the idea popped into my head and wondered what other people's thoughts were.

But I do get what you mean about the trope

DF Spoilers / Mortal memory discussion
« on: November 11, 2021, 11:08:15 PM »
OK, I've had a curious thought about mortal memory in the Dresdenverse. The setup behind this thought was remembering a possible book or rumored book coming up in the series. The premise behind the book is Harry goes to sleep and wakes up in an insane asylum. The world he wakes in he is not a wizard, he has no magic, he is just a normal human being. Every one around him is people he knows but are part of this new world. Like Eb is there with him but is a patient too. And Mab, Molly, and Sarrisa are nurses. Just examples of possibilities. And of course this is all in Harry's mind.

So, here is what I'm curious about and wondered what other people's thoughts are. We now have it where Murphy and Hendricks are dead. With Harry's memories being screwed with, if they were to show up in his mind to help out and fight what I would assume would be a mental attack on Harry's mind, would that be breaking the rule of no returning until mortal memory has faded. It would just be Harry's mind they would be, not the real world.

DF Spoilers / Re: Mab chose Molly
« on: October 18, 2021, 08:48:00 PM »
You know, not to put a complete stop to the conversation, but I thought this whole debate was put to bed awhile ago.

The virginity aspect was a worthless argument because Sarrisa is a Lady now and she went out and lived a life, trying to be anything that she wanted to be. She knew of the chastity that the Lady has to endure. And if she knew that, she probably got busy with someone somewhere down the line. And, from Jim's own mouth, we know that Sarrisa and Fix are in a relationship. That woman in Fix's bed back in PG wasn't Lily.

As for Mab's intrest in Molly, Jim said that Mab didn't know anything about her until PG, when Fetch Prime brought her to Arctis Tor. The whole thing about Lea asking for Michael's first born in GP must mean that Lea knew about Molly so Mab must know about her is wrong. Mab learned about Molly in PG; saw who she was, who her parentage was, and what Harry would do for her. And with that knowledge, got a leverage on Harry.

And as for the fae blood, I can't say that she 100% doesn't have any. But, with the theory that Priscilla has, that being that Molly got a face full of wellspring magic in PG, or the fact that Molly completely shut herself down and away from everyone after Changes and Lea was the one to keep her alive, train her, teach her how to think about the world, that would change her at her core and open herself up to the mantle. Those points make more sense then trying to say/prove that Molly has Fae blood somewhere in her past.

Finally, Mab never said what she had planned for Molly. People have always assumed it was to be the Summer Lady, but she never said anything to that being the outcome. The only thing that makes it a possibility is that Mab said she thought Molly was more suited for Summer. But I have always believed that Mab had even more plans. I think she was going to use Molly as a pressure point/a bargaining chip against Harry. I also think she was going to use Molly as a weapon against HHWBs. Molly is a strong mind mage, one of the strongest we have seen, especially for her age. With the Council banning anything to deal with the mind, Molly's talent would go to waste. But under Mab's tutelage, maybe she could detect/fight the Walker's. That's been my theory. Mab isn't one to have one backup plan, so just to be a Lady doesn't fit with me.

DF Spoilers / Re: More foreshadowing?
« on: August 05, 2021, 04:07:36 PM »
Thanks, I knew it was mentioned, well, if that isn't foreshadowing I don't what is.  What further reinforces it is later in Ghost Story, Lea becomes "Auntie Lea" to complete Molly's training. And yup, she shaped her alright.. And once again Grave Peril proves itself to be one of the key books in the whole series as far as foreshadowing goes.

Problem with this is that, unless Jim was talking in his misdirection talk, I remember him saying that none of the fae knew about Molly in GP. I've heard quite a few people say the same thing that Lea knew of Molly back then. So did Jim change the back story?

My head canon is that in Molly's soulgaze mirrors we saw all the phases that Molly's life will go through.

Seen this idea float around here before and I can see this being the case. Jim has said that Harry is an unreliable narrator. So this can be a case that Harry got the soul gaze wrong.

DF Spoilers / Re: Murphy Family Reunion

If she comes back and if she stays, I feel like it would be a fan service. Gards comment about that she can't come back until no living memory of her remains. Now, that doesn't say she can't stay if someone suddenly remembers her, but it feels to me that if someone does, she can't be around. And as of right now, the only way she can come back early is if the rules were thrown out the window. And Harry knows that rules are there for a reason. He will bend them and exploit them, but at the end of the day he will uphold them.

Rumor has it, it's personal issues. He wants to focus on the personal issues and his work.

And he's probably got a lot of people hounding him about the next book and mad at him because of Murphy. I say good for him for doing it. Take the time you need.

Ivy issue- she's mad at him for the suicide, thinking only of himself and hiring the only mlother man that is her friend.

Thorned issue- we assumed wrong that it was the fallen infected. By WoJ, an Angel can't be infected. But the host....

I don't know, I might catch heat for this, but I kinda don't want her back. I would rather we have a spin off where we follow Murphy and Hendricks in a kinda cant stand each other/buddy cop story.

Better to see that then the story of
"Hi, Harry"
"Murphy, you're back. I just recovered from your death. I love you. Don't leave me again."
"Harry, I have to leave. The world is right again and that means I cant stay. I'm sorry for making you hurt again."

Hmm, kinda sounds like the Harry/Susan storyline in DM.

Anyway, I don't think she will stay away forever, but personally I think Harry will have better character growth if Murphy prime stays out of the picture for the rest of the series.

DF Spoilers / Re: Mab's plans with Harry
« on: July 08, 2021, 10:47:19 PM »
Ok, so I had a continuing thought on this. So maybe instead of the thought that Marcone wanted a marriage with Mab but would get Molly, maybe he would actually want a marriage with Molly. And with that marriage, maybe Marcone and Thorned Namshale (sp) could remove the WL mantle and put it in Persephone, the Beckett's daughter.

DF Spoilers / Mab's plans with Harry
« on: July 07, 2021, 05:35:14 PM »
So, going through PT again and I had a thought that is kinda humorous but also bad for the characters. So in other words, sounds like something Jim would do.

We so far have seen Mab push and separate Harry from his allies. We have CD where nobody out of Harry's allies knows about him being alive and coming back except Molly. And even then, it was through Lea and it wasn't supposed to be known. Lea fae talked to her letting her know.

SG, we have Harry trapped on the island, unable to leave and Mab making it difficult to get there. And intercepting messages being sent. And keeping Molly busy to come and help. It was only because of either divine intervention, maybe something to do with being Lady and Knight, or my personal favorite, Harry owns a spot in Molly's psyche because of claiming the rug and flying on it back in GS, that Harry was able to talk to Molly and get her to come back to remove Bonnie. Otherwise, Mab tried to sow distrust between Harry and his allies.

We then come PT where the WCouncil is mostly in distrust of Harry because of his allegiance to Mab. And in BG, on top of the castle when Eb is telling Harry not to trust Mab, that he's being put in a box. And Mab comes back with that it's pretty much what the WCouncil is doing to him. And then the council dumps him at the end.

So, with that all said, we can see a possibility that Mab wants Harry to be isolated from his support group and rely on those that Mab can control. And with Murphy gone, Thomas in stasis, and Butters a KotC so he won't always be around, Harry's group has taken a hit. He has the Carpenter's, he has the Alphas, and he has Molly.

Mab cant touch Michael and his family and the Alphas are not on Mab's radar to be anything but a thorn in her side to be taken care of later. So that leaves Molly.

So here is the funny, interesting, bad thought. What if, since Harry has to marry Lara for an alliance between the Courts, that Marcone wants the same deal, thinking he would marry Mab and have a large step up over Lara. But instead, he has to marry Molly. Yikes. Not only would that tweak Harry to no end, but it would pull Molly further from Harry, adding more obligations to Molly.

Not saying that it would happen, or if it could happen because of the Lady Mantle, but it's a interesting idea.

DF Spoilers / Re: It didn't make sense to me (Harry/Starborn/created)

Breeding isn't just about birth. It's also about training. The WCouncil has pushed him all his magical life. Justin was still part of it till his death. So even though, as I said before, Lord Raith may have got the ball rolling on Harry's birth, after Margaret's death, when Justin picked him up, he was being trained by the Council.

It's been hinted by Drakul, Mab, and others that Harry was created as a weapon.  So his being born was not by accident but by design.  The thing that doesn't make sense to me is that if he was created, and he is important (to someone, somewhere), the hasn't been taken very good care of.  I mean from the sound of it he is some sort of super commodity.  His life has been in constant danger, why would someone go to the trouble to having him created, only to discard him???

I don't know but it has me wondering if maybe the Council has a "golden boy" (or girl) who they think is a saint (not literally), and that Harry is the pain they wish had never been created....  So this golden child is being pampered, and trained for the purpose of the Stars and Stones, and will ultimately be the real danger while Harry the hellion will be the hero..

I pointed out in my thread the road so far that all of this for Harry was possibly started by Lord Raith. He was the one with the knowledge,  because of his library and experiencing it at least twice before, to know how to create a Starborn. My guess is that Elaine was a happy possible coincidence that Justin found with the information that he got with his meetings with Lord Raith and Margaret.
