Title: OPEN SUBMISSIONS: Dirty Magick: New Orleans (Crime/Noir Urban Fantasy Anthology)
Post by: Mickey Finn on November 01, 2014, 11:05:46 PM
What do Charlie Brown and Jim Butcher have in common?

A love for Cast a Deady Spell*, a pastiche blend of Lovecraft and hard boiled noir. So the former started a series of collected short stories on this theme.

Quote
Dirty Magick: Los Angeles" is an urban fantasy anthology exploring the crossroads between magic and crime. Set in the city that invented noir, these stories comb the back streets and side alleys where the shadows are so sharp, they can shave you clean. Featuring such distinguished writers as Neal Pollack, Richard Rayner, Justin Macumber and Terry Mixon, this collection, edited by Charlie Brown, presents a whole new approach to urban fantasy

Yes, the editor of the Dirty Magick series is really named Charlie Brown. While the first anthology was set in Los Angeles, the next one will be set in his hometown of New Orleans, so if you're interested in submitting a story, make sure you read the FAQ so you don't fall into the pitfalls of writing about Hollywood's New Orleans. Besides, he has a sense of humor in writing it.

I'm not sure who's confirmed in this one, but I was just accepted, Terry Mixon just announced on his FB page he's working on a submission. I've poked a few awesome writers I know from con circuits who are eyeing the project, tossing ideas around in their heads, as well as SASS members.

He's a huge fan of Jim's, apparently, and so you all share Venn-space of good taste. His instructions to me regarding posting this here:

" I'll take pitches from them until Nov 15 and their deadline would be Dec 31...although unpublished writers need to attach a writing sample." Note that if you're a published author, you need to send him a list of publications (the credentials mentioned in the submissions guidlines)

I haven't got anything in the hopper right now, but will be wishing everyone else well! If you want a beta for your story, let me know. Crazy busy but I'll make time.
