DF Spoilers / Queen Succession Rules
« on: January 13, 2018, 01:53:47 PM »
We know that generally speaking the rules for succession goes as follows: Lady=>Queen=>Mother.  I, in another thread, wondered about the circumstances of the events in which the last time both Queens of Winter and Summer died, but for the purposes of this thread, I'm just focused on Summer since Mother Winter has remained constant and Mother Summer has abdicated at some point.

So, here it goes.  What would happen if all three Summer mantles at the same time became vacant.  Mother Summer abdicated, Queen and Lady died all at the same time.  The succession rules then are temporarily moot.  I would imagine each mantle then would seek out vessels based on a particular priority list which has a series of considerations. The priority list could include appropriate reflections relative to the mantle, potential of the individual, proximity, and others.  I don't think they would necessarily have to wait for the Lady to first get a vessel to ascend, thereby freeing the others to choose.

What do you guys think?  What are some other issues of succession you can come up with?

Note: This thread sprang from another thread where I proposed a situation where the Murphy Family Reunion gets transported 1000+ years into the past.  This event would be potentially similar to when Milwaukee vanished in the Unseelie Incursion in 1994 and was replaced with forests untouched by civilization.  I tied it in with Murphy's eventual ascension to Mab, Mother Summers (Mrs. Spunklecrief) abdication, Mother Murphy's ascension to Mother Summer, Murphy's sister ascension to Titania, and the morphing of many members of the Murphy clan into the sidhe or other members of the NeverNever, etc.

DF Spoilers / Disproof
« on: January 11, 2018, 03:21:59 AM »
I'm going to devote this thread to people who want to try to flesh out some of their ideas. Although It is possible to disprove theories it is often difficult to do so in general.  So if you would like to put an idea out you have been working on and try to find if it has holes in it just add your theory and participate in the discussion.

My theory I'll put forward is my favorite Murphy=Mab.  It requires time travel but the biggest hole really comes from woj that mab and titania are 'actual' twin sisters. And this came in response to a question about the biological relationships of ...  so, aside from this woj and that Murphy would have, knowing her past history, still named her children maeve and Marissa. And, she would have known about an upcoming contamination of maeve but despite all of her power was unable to stop nemesis getting to her.

So can you think of anything within book and not woj that prohibits ttmurphy from becoming mab, or that makes it very unlikely.

I guess the point about how difficult it is to change the past, etc is one huge point against but of course we will have a tt book so that is a point in favor.

This thread isn't a Murphy/mab thread.  It is a disproof thread so others pose similar questions for their theory or idea.

DF Spoilers / Wild Card Comics: Puck
« on: December 30, 2017, 12:00:51 AM »
I've bought and read one of the comics where Puck and Murphy go up against each other and Puck nearly knocks her out, permanently.
I saw the thought bubble which hints that Murphy's stand against Puck may result in unforeseen consequences.  Of course, I chose to purchase the Puck vs Murphy edition to see if I could garner any clues about Murphy.  So, in reading the limited episode out of 6, there is a suggestion that Murphy's  standoff against Puck will have a unforeseen consequence.  And, Murphy also impressed Puck.

Since I've only had and viewed part 4, i think, of a 6 part series, I was wondering if anyone had more to talk about regarding Puck.  And, if you could answer some questions for me.

First question, Did Harry go to Lea for assistance against Puck? Did Puck interfere before Harry was able to consult Lea? Was Lea ever in the series onscreen with Harry.
I ask because in my head regarding my Murphy=Mab theory, Mab and Lea would have temporal restrictions placed on them from interfering with a Puck vs Murphy fight.  Puck may be serving as some sort of chooser/teacher who later down the line cross paths again with Murphy in some sort of plan that involves time travel and a link between Murphy=>Mab.  If in that link into the past Murphy greets and sees a young Lea, this history would likely require Murphy fighting Puck and TIME would likely want to minimize Lea's role in Murphy's history that leads up to that pivotal moment of connection between TTMurphy and YLea. DF Spoilers / Spoilers: Star Wars: The Last Jedi
« on: December 28, 2017, 09:33:45 PM »
I realize this board is for discussion about Dresden Files.  There however is links between DF and Star Wars in the role of hidden familial relationships and ongoing allusions to the Star Wars universe within the Dresden Files.  So, going forward any discussion about the movie and speculation concerning it will be spoiled and I ask that you include spoiler tags too to safeguard the errant wanderer that doesn't get the clue in the title.

So, here goes my theory:

DF Spoilers / Nathan Hendricks
« on: December 12, 2017, 02:55:04 PM »
I realize there is a WOJ from Priscellie that Hendricks first name is Nathan.  Is there any book reference to his name, or twitter, reddit, etc reference by Jim that says the same thing?

Quote
Marcone
2010 Powell's books Q&A off of Youtube @0:30
With Regards to Even Hand
It's from the perspective of John Marcone, and sort of shows you what he's doing behind the scenes.  And if you read the short story and then go and read the story that's in Changes in Burger King, it has two totally different meanings.

2011 Bitten by Books Q&A
John Marcone has been on the fence for most of the series. Sometimes he does the right thing, sometimes the wrong. Will there be a book where he goes full good guy or bad guy?
I think it’s safe to say that Harry will never get a clear read on Marcone. Sharks aren’t good or evil. They’re /sharks/.
I say this, of course, only because I miss the recently departed Shark Week.

Per Priscellie Jim told her at ComicCon:
Hendricks' first name is Nathan

@BillyYank Marcone was a Marine.

DF Spoilers / Mac, A T-Shirt, and the 1994 Unseelie Incursion
« on: December 12, 2017, 02:36:08 PM »
First off the T-Shirt:
The Tweet
https://twitter.com/PatrickRothfuss/status/874393135589326852

I'll include the T-shirt image separate from the tweet after I switch to Chrome.
T-shirt has symbols...Peace, and ?, maybe mjolnir or something.
It reads...
McAnnaly's Pub
Official neutral territory under the Unseelie Accords since 1994.

This coupled with the fact that the Unseelie Incursion in 1994 caused or was involved in the vanishing of Milwaukee makes me believe that Mac played a part in this event somehow. We have P-WOJ that Mac completed a midlevel questline that Mab herself created and that this led to Mac being granted neutral territory under the accords. The P-WOJ established that someone with many contacts within the supernatural world could possibly complete the questline. (P-WOJ paraphrased WOJ)

On another note, I'd say that the T-shirt suggests that the appropriate language of the sign for McAnnaly's Pub is ACCORDED NEUTRAL TERRITORY and not "GROUND".  That is if there is anything significant between the two.

One thing I would ask of you is to look at the T-shirt and try to figure out the second symbol at the top left of the logo.  The first I found is indeed a Peace symbol in Norse symbology. I had a hard time finding the 2nd symbol but it looks like a dual headed hammer or axe.

DF Spoilers / ACCORDED NEUTRAL GROUND
« on: November 06, 2017, 10:25:20 PM »
I've posted this before but I wanted an updated version that hasn't been delete.

Death Masks
Quote
Mac caught my eye when I came in and nodded to my left. I looked. A sign on the wall said, ACCORDED NEUTRAL GROUND. I looked back at Mac. He drew a shotgun out from behind the bar so that I could see it and said, "Got it?"
"No problem," I answered.

Dead Beat
Quote
The minute I shut the door behind me, some of the fear and tension faded, the dark energies Cowl had stirred up sliding around the tavern like a stream pouring around a small, heavy stone.
A sign on the wall just inside the door proclaimed, ACCORDED NEUTRAL TERRITORY.

Proven Guilty
Referred to by Fix in phone call as:
Quote
Accorded neutral territory,” he responded.
He meant McAnally’s pub.
Then when they meet at McAnally's
Quote
There’s a sign Mac’s got hanging up at the door that reads ACCORDED NEUTRAL GROUND.

White Night
Quote
On the wall beside the door was a wooden sign that stated, simply, ACCORDED neutral ground. That meant that Mac had declared the place a nonpartisan location,

Small Favor
Reference to it
Quote
It doesn’t keep out any of the supernatural riffraff—that’s what the sign by the door is for. Mac had the place legally recognized as neutral ground among the members of the Unseelie Accords, and members of any of the Accorded nations had a responsibility to avoid conflict in such a place, or at least to take it outside.

Cold Day's References
(Vadderung's Bodyguard, I think)
Quote
A woman with a voice cold enough to merit the use of the Kelvin scale spat, “He will meet you. Accorded Neutral Ground. Ten minutes."
Quote
Thomas swung to his feet and slipped the little automatic into the back of his pants, then pulled his shirt down over it. “Where are we going?” “Accorded Neutral Ground,” I said.
When they visit to meet Vadderung, sign reads see excerpt:
Quote
The two of them went to a far table, bickering cheerfully, and sat down, passing by the real reason we were meeting here—a modest wooden sign with simple letters burned into it: ACCORDED NEUTRAL TERRITORY.

Skin Game
When Harry meets with Mab and Kringle at McAnnaly's it reads, see excerpt.
Quote
Normally, Mac’s does a brisk trade, but today there was a sign on the door that read: CLOSED FOR PRIVATE PARTY. A second sign hung inside the door, a wooden one, into which the words ACCORDED NEUTRAL TERRITORY had been neatly burned.

DF Spoilers / Harry, Time Travel and Sue
« on: October 29, 2017, 02:17:04 PM »
This Thread originated from a Reddit Thread I created. I just pasted it from there here with that audience in mind.

I'm a Time Travel nut. I love the theories. Feel free to post yours here. The one, I'll be talking about is Harry using Sue when he rides far back in time. Sue is a TRex with an age of about 67 Million Years. Harry has already used her in Dead Beat in a book about Necromancy. So, I'm wondering, since she has such a great link to the distant past, why can't Harry use Sue as a resource when he time travels, particularly if he needs an extreme amount of juice to do something quite distant in the past. Many of the arguments against Harry accomplishing anything with time travel is the amount of juice it would require, well we know Sue in necro form has it in spades. So, combining Sue in Necro Form with Time travel Form would be one huge formidable force. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sue_(dinosaur)

Though that was from 2011 but it highly suggets some connection to Denarians like Serack suggested since book 20 follows the multiple of 5 format.

In what book will we find out who fixed Little Chicago?
Probably not until 19 or 20.  Since I'm a lazy writer, probably 20. I think that would be good for the last of the case files, so I'll hold off on that one.

DF Spoilers / Questions And Answers
« on: October 26, 2017, 01:27:28 PM »
Do you know where I can find the following woj on Murphy, her job, and powerups?  The actual woj goes something like this:
"Murphy already has a job, and she won't get any more powerups." [my words recalling woj]
Hey Serack, I saw you on Reddit. Do you know where I can find it, and source video, etc.

DF Spoilers / Chandler, Doctor Who, And an Inmate
« on: October 19, 2017, 12:57:29 AM »
Chandler first shows up as a non-named warden in Murphy's kitchen near the end of Small Favor. He is seen as the solo wizard at gate of Edinburgh in TC. We get a message from him with Luccio's msg that he was among the wizards that confronted Cristos in Changes, but was able to escape.
In a thread Serack, myself, and the originator, wondered if perhaps Chandler's old, grouchy time traveling self later becomes the individual imprisoned within Demonreach.
Why such a huge leap, you mask ask. Well, watch this video and you get to learn his area of expertise--TIME.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Gmu76ritoQ&feature=youtu.be&t=1793
Quote
What kind of magic does Chandler specialize in?
WOJ Chandler does a lot of Divination, and a lot of stuff that is involved with time. Which puts him in a very finicky spot, a very high profile spot on the council. It's one reason why he's a Warden where they can keep an eye on him. He can actually do things to screw with the flow of time and look back in time and find things out, and occasionally to look forward in time and see things. Although that's very unreliable because of the whole free will nonsense. He's an information gatherer for the most part. He's not as much of a punch you in the face type, but he's really really useful which is why he has got a lot of status among the young wardens. He's got access to what the old wizards think is valuable, which is information.
Anyways, it goes on to suggest that he is in HQ and a Warden so people can be looking over his shoulder to check to see if he has broken the law on time travel and quickly put an end to it, or him, or both."
(Jim also says here that Chandler's hat and bowler look is based off of John Steed of the 1960's British Avengers show)
Why Chandler is stationed at HQ:[Keeping him close, to keep an eye on him?] Exactly. He's always close to breaking one of the LAWS when messing with time. So, If he does start to build a Tardis, there going to have someone there to shut him down. So yes, when Jim created Chandler and his abilities he was thinking of THE DOCTOR.

Things to note about Chandler for potential equivalence to Demonreach's inmate.
He is British, sounds British.
He has an ability with time.
WC believes he has an ability to break the Law regarding Time.
He has good relations with Harry, who we know will break the Law regarding Time.
Jim has thought of Doctor Who in creating Chandler with Tardis allusion.
To make the theory fit would require a young Chandler to time travel, perhaps to a distant past. And, at some point, to mitigate paradoxes, etc he (grown old, wise, and grouchy) come to the realization that he must be placed in stasis in order to come back to the present. He worked with the warden of that time whether willingly or unwillingly.

The most important piece of this thread is to inform Forumites of the WOJ's and video regarding Chandler and his area of expertise.

Prospect for Mab/Murphy theory
It allows for some member(s) of present day Harry's allies the possibility to time travel into the past, possibly distant past if he proves to be the inmate in Demonreach.  This will further allow for an extensive time loop. One that in a specific instance could allow present day Murphy into a position to become a Winter Lady a thousand years ago. Or at the least, it makes an argument that Chandler could affect the timeline 1000+years ago, or whenever he was imprisoned.

DF Reference Collection / Mab/Murphy Ironies
« on: October 14, 2017, 08:49:39 PM »
So many of you have asked about my Mab/Murphy theory.  I truly don't know how it could happen, either in some alternate reality it is true, or if it did occur in the past via TT, or she becomes Mab in the future.  But, I think I can say a case can be made where there are potential ironies that exist should Jim skew that way.  There are more than the ones I listed here, but these are the ones that I recall at the moment.

DF Spoilers / Deadline end of year
« on: October 13, 2017, 08:56:14 PM »
Haven't established one but I'd like to see things heading to a conclusion by/around the end of the year if possible.

Not a lot of time to comb through the replies here.

Suffice it to say I don't think that it's something that's gonna get solved by a single monolithic solution, I think the community will need to gel around 2-3 things that solve different overlapping parts of the need: for example, Discord or Slack for some real-time social-connecting & chatting. An established well-moderated Facebook group for that platform (because if you don't include Facebook you'll miss a big chunk of folks; personally that platform's not for me, but it is the big leader in the field) — sounds like there's one out there already. Probably a Wiki or similar to store fan resources like Word of Jim.

Branch out, check out what is out there. Facebook, Google+, Discord, Reddit, Slack, etc. Join discussion in following threads for your input...

We will need to find a new home for the Forum by the end of the year. So help us out.  This is an excerpt from above link from Iago's call to action.

Quote
o, as the subject line indicates... I think it's time to move on.

The question for you all, then, is "to where?" And honestly, I don't have a clear answer because I'm an old dog, and I just don't use Facebook that much, which is probably where the majority of fandom activity is happening right now. So I need to turn this question over to you all.

On Twitter,  y'all should be following https://twitter.com/jimbutchernews as that's the main site's newsfeed in tweet form.

On Facebook... what groups should we point people to? Leave links in your replies to this post.

On Google Plus... same question! Post some links to the Communities where the discussion about Jim & his properties is happening.

On ??? ... man, did you even read what I said above? I'm an old dog! Teach me of the new tricks out there. Where's the other Jim fandom activity happening online?
